Slingo’s Cosmic Clusters (Slingo Originals) Slot Demo & Review

How’s your general knowledge? Let’s put it to the test. Do you know how many planets there are in our solar system? Times up, there are a total of eight, but if you need to brush up on your astronomy, you can blast off into space with the Slingo’s Cosmic Clusters game from provider Slingo Originals. As for a little background on the stats, we have a 5 reel game, the cluster pays mechanic in action, a below average RTP of 94.15%, and a maximum win of 10,000x bet.

This is certainly a Slingo game that is different from everything else currently on the market, so let’s have a quick chat about the features. We’ve got a lower reel set featuring symbols and numbers, with clusters of four or more symbols paying a cash win, and the numbers that appear ranging from 1 – 75, marking off their corresponding numbers on the bingo card above. Complete a winning cluster on the bingo card or mark off every number to trigger the Cosmic Spins, where the playfield will expand to 5×9 in size for chances to hit super-sized winning clusters.

How does some free space travel sound and the opportunity to see all of our amazing planets? Okay, maybe we can’t promise you’ll see those, but you do get to try our Slingo’s Cosmic Clusters demo instead. That’s a fair trade-off, right? Give it a few spins; it’s available to play below.

Slingo’s Cosmic Clusters paytable

We’re big fans of the Slingo series of games here at Demoslot and have been covering and reviewing these bingo/slot hybrid titles for a while. It has been quite the journey regarding the standard of the games, especially when you look at the likes of older titles like Slingo Riches and then compare them to the excellent Slingo Money Train, which was released in partnership with Relax Gaming. The progression of Slingo has always been of interest to us, so we were really excited to see something so different in the shape of Slingo’s Cosmic Clusters. So, let’s not waste any more time and get ourselves over to the pays section and see what can be won.

If you’re a Slingo player, you’ll know that 90% or more of the games don’t have any regular symbols. That’s not the case here though, and we have several coloured aliens taking up positions on the paytable. Sitting at the top is the orange alien worth a massive 1,250x bet for winning clusters of 45. This is followed by the blue alien at 750x, and the last of the super high paying symbols is the pink alien worth 500x. Dropping down to the lower section of the paytable but by no means scrimping on the values they award, we have the yellow, red, green and blue aliens paying 300x, 250x, 200x, and 150x, respectively, for clusters of 45.

In total, there are just eight bet sizes that you can play Slingo’s Cosmic Clusters at. These begin at a minimum of €0.20 and reach a maximum of €100 per spin. There isn’t any real issue of a game having so few options with regard to its stakes, but it is a little disappointing in this particular title to see a jump from €1 to €5, with no other bets to play at between them. Still, I would imagine most who choose to engage in the game for real money will be spinning around the €1 mark or under.

Base Game & Modifiers

Slingo's Cosmic Clusters Base Game

Slingo’s Cosmic Clusters layout comes in two parts. At the bottom half of the game, you have a 5×4 reel set that will spin in 20 symbols every time you hit the start button, and above them, you have a Bingo card with a 5×5 layout that contains 25 random numbers between 1 – 75.

Each spin will drop in either symbols from the paytable, numbers from the card, and in most instances, some kind of combination of the two. If a winning combo is formed, those symbols will explode and be removed from the reels. The cascading reels engine will then activate, and new symbols will fall from above, giving you additional chances to win.

If a number appears on the lower reel set and matches a number in the same row above it on the bingo card, it will be marked off and covered with a random alien symbol.

Cosmic Spins

When you first start your session playing the game, you will begin with 1 Cosmic Spin. This amount can be increased by completing lines (Slingos) on your bingo card, with the maximum value reaching 25 spins if a full house is completed.

Slingo’s Cosmic Clusters Bonus Features

Slingo's Cosmic Clusters Free Spins Feature

The Cosmic Spins can be triggered by hitting a winning cluster of aliens on the Bingo card or completing a full house. If you trigger them via a cluster, the stored amount of spins in the Cosmic meter will be awarded, and all positions that are not marked with an alien will become “Frozen Positions” and can’t help you during the bonus. As mentioned in the previous section, a full house will reward you with 25 spins.

Cosmic Spins

Once the Cosmic Spins are activated, the reels and Bingo card will combine to form one Super Grid that is 5×9 in size. Ideally, you will have triggered the bonus from a full house, meaning there are no frozen positions on the grid, as they can seriously hamper your chances of hitting the biggest wins.

Pros

  • A well thought out idea that brings some new blood to the Slingo niche.
  • Players can win from individual spins without having to play a series of "pre-paid games."
  • The removal of high costs to continue playing when you only need a couple of numbers in a standard Slingo game will please some players.

Cons

  • No factual stated max win that I could see.
  • It can be quite a drawn out process when it wants to give you a full house. Especially when waiting for the last number.
  • Some players may find it frustrating to keep triggering the bonus with just a few Cosmic Spins and a large majority of the upper grid frozen out.

Final Thoughts

This is undoubtedly one of the most significant changes ever made to the Slingo format, and I think it's a great innovation that could potentially spawn a whole new series of games. However, I'm not quite sure they have 100% nailed the formula just yet. Perhaps future additions could include some base game modifiers or multiplier symbols that appear during the free spins. One thing is for sure though, there are bags of potential on offer if Slingo Originals stick with this format, which may also bring them a new generation of Slingo/Slot players.Just for a bit of clarification. We might be criticised for a slightly higher score of 8.5 for Slingo's Cosmic Clusters when compared to the slots we review. But this score is awarded purely on how we view it as a game in the Slingo market.
