The last few PG Soft games I have reviewed have all been relatively simple – that’s not automatically a bad thing, but I must admit that I was hoping for a few more features this time around. Whilst Songkran Splash certainly does have a little bit more going on, it’s still a very simple machine overall – the base game includes three multiplier reels along with stacked wilds on reels two through four, whilst the bonus round is a typical free spins feature that is triggered by hitting three or more scatters during the base game.
I’ll say one thing – the Thai people got really lucky when their cabinet brought in legislation to give them a seven-day holiday every New Year. I’d imagine that the world will end long before my own country does the same! I guess I’ll have to settle for playing our free demo slot of Songkran Splash then.

Songkran Splash Slot Theme, Stakes, Pays & Symbols
Asian holidays and festivals are a common theme in online slots, but this is the first time I can remember coming across a game based on the Thai New Year. Similar titles include Pragmatic Play’s Floating Dragon Boat Festival and ReelPlay’s Tsai Shen 10K Ways Dream Drop, but the most prolific developer of this type of game is PG Soft themselves. Our review library reveals a whole bunch of such titles that I had long forgotten about, many of which seem to include a far greater range of options and features – a strange situation indeed.
Could the paytable be hiding something that will make this game stand out in a way I’ve so far failed to spot? Probably not, let’s be honest! The highest-paying symbols are male and female characters who offer returns of 200x and 100x, respectively, for a complete payway of five of a kind. Four medium-pays are divided into two groups of two symbols each – the first are represented by floats and offer payouts of 50x each for all five symbols, whilst the second group consists of sunglasses and a beach ball which share equal returns of 30x each. That just leaves the six royal symbols, and there’s a significant drop in value before we get to those – a full pay way of six matching symbols, whether they are nines or aces, will get you 5x your total stake back in winnings.
PG Soft’s familiar multi-selector bet selection feature is again included in Songkran Splash. There are three coin sizes this time – €0.01, €0.10, and €0.50, along with ten bet levels and a fixed base bet of 20 coins. Combining these selectors allows you to play any multiple of the minimum €0.20 bet up to the maximum of €100.00 per spin.
Base Game & Modifiers
The first thing you will likely notice after loading Songkran Splash is the game’s unusual reel layout. The first and last reels consist of three rows each, whilst the inner reels add additional rows and create a 3-4-5-4-3 diamond shape. This setup results in a total of 720 payways, reminiscent of older NetEnt games such as Reel Rush, which employed the same design many years ago.
Multiplier Reels
During the base game, the multipliers above reels two, three, and four will be reset to 1x before each spin. Whenever a winning combination includes symbols on these reels, these multipliers will increase by a value equal to the number of symbols that make up the win. If more than one multiplier reel is included in a winning combination, the sum of their values will be applied instead.
Songkran Splash Slot Bonus Features
Bonus scatter symbols are included on all five reels of Songkran Splash, but you’ll only need to hit three simultaneously to trigger a bonus round. Three scatters will award you 12 free spins, whilst four or five scatters increase this to either 14 or 16 free spins, respectively.
Free Spins
Before the bonus round begins, the three multipliers above reels two, three, and four will be set to inactive. The first time a winning combination includes those reels, it will activate the multiplier, whilst subsequent wins will then increase the multipliers‘ value according to the number of symbols included in your winning combinations.
Unlike the base game, the multiplier reels’ value is not reset between spins during the bonus round. This gives you a much higher chance of accumulating a high multiplier on one or more reels, especially if you can also re-trigger the bonus one or more times.

- No wilds on the first reel.
Final Thoughts
My first impressions of Songkran Splash were that there probably wouldn’t be much to see, so I was pleasantly surprised once I played a few bonus rounds and discovered it to be a great, fun and quite interesting little game! This is probably the best of this developers’ recent releases, so keep an eye out for it the next time you want something different to play.
