Game Overview
We’re likely kidding ourselves if we think that any aliens that ever attack the Earth are going to look like cuddly soft toys holding ray guns. Besides, any alien species with the technology to travel this far through space and make it to our planet will have a better strategy than just doing a mass invasion with ray gun-holding foot soldiers wearing goldfish bowls on their heads. More likely, they’ll just gas the entire planet, getting rid of us all at once before making it their home. Is my imagination getting the better of me here? Probably, so maybe it’s better we just get on with the review of Relax Gaming’s new Space Attacks Dream Drop slot. Stat-wise, it has a 5×5 gaming grid, medium to high volatility, and an 8,000x the stake maximum win.
Before we get started, I want to mention there are two variations of the Space Attacks slot from Relax Gaming. One is the standard version, and the other features the developer’s famous Dream Drop jackpot that, to date, has created 16 instant millionaires. For that reason, the two slots have different RTPs. The standard version has 96.10%, and the jackpot slot is down at 94% (to cover the jackpots). As for the features on both, you can look forward to lots of cloning activity going on via three special symbol modifiers, as well as a free spins bonus with an increasing persistent win multiplier.
You have two choices during an alien attack, take the fight on for humankind, or hide away in a shelter playing the Space Attacks slot demo until it dies down. I’m in the latter camp, and if you’re the same, you’ll find the free demo below.
Space Attacks Dream Drop Slot Theme, Stakes, Pays & Symbols
From movies to video games and slots, the alien attack theme is one that always makes a return from time to time. We’ve seen it within the slot industry many times now, and it has to be said that some of the titles using it are nothing short of excellent. Reactoonz, Gigantoonz, and Gargantoonz, all from Play’n Go, are firm favourites among players, but Push Gaming also brought us Space Stacks, Red Tiger Gaming has Blobsters Clusterbusters, and BGaming offers Alient Fruits 1 and 2. There’s more, too, but if you enjoy the whacky alien attack theme, those are the best to get started on.
Space Attacks becomes the latest to use that theme but the first to offer a progressive jackpot version. More on that later, though, as the next stage of this review is to cover the symbol payouts that could come your way. The Wild symbol, which also substitutes for regular symbols in winning combinations, offers the best payout of 2x the stake for a 5-symbol combo. The Red Alien is next with a top prize of 1x up for grabs, and the Orange Alien follows with 0.8x for a full line of five. Then we have the Green Alien returning 0.7x for five in a row, while the Blue Alien is the last of the premium pays offering 0.6x. The Hearts, Clubs, Spades, and Diamonds playing card symbols finalise the pays section and award up to 0.35x, 0.3x, 0.25x, and 0.2x, respectively.
As for the betting options, if you’re playing the Dream Drop version, it’s important to note that the more you stake per spin, the more chance you have of triggering the Dream Drop Bonus Game. The stakes also differ between the two versions. You can wager between €0.20 to €100.00 on the non-jackpot edition and €0.20 to €125.00 on the Dream Jackpot variation.
Space Attacks Dream Drop Slot Base Game & Modifiers
The Space Attacks you’re tasked with fending off occur on a 5×5 gaming grid that holds 25 symbols and has 295 connected ways to win. That mechanic requires three or more regular symbols or five wilds to land on consecutive reels starting from the leftmost reel connected horizontally or diagonally to each other. A cascading reel feature removes each symbol involved in a winning combo so that more can drop into the action to potentially create further wins.
Space Attacks Special Symbols
There are three special symbols that can land on the reels, and these have the following modifiers:
- Clone One Chosen Symbol: A randomly selected symbol and any instances of that symbol to the right of it are cloned to positions on the first reel. It then transforms into a wild symbol.
- Clone Symbols in All Rows: This randomly selects five types of symbols sat on reels two to five and clones them to the first reel. Again, the Special Symbol then transforms into a Wild.
- Transform Into Wilds: All instances of between one and three symbol types are transformed into wild symbols, and the Special Symbol becomes one too.
Space Attacks Dream Drop Slot Bonus Features
The main event on the Space Attacks slot, unless you’re playing the Dream Drop version, of course, is a free spins bonus game that you’ll trigger when three scatters symbols appear on the reels at the end of a spin.
Free Spins Feature
The bonus round begins with an initial 3 free spins, which resets back to 3 each time a spin produces a win. Each reset also increases a persistent win multiplier by 1x at a time.
Dream Drop Jackpot
If you’re playing the Dream Drop version of Space Attacks, the DD bonus game can trigger randomly at the start of any spin. Technically, it’s not a game at all; you just wait for the planet to get destroyed, and once it is, the jackpot you win, whether the Rapid, Midi, Maxi, Major, or Mega, you’ve won. How much you win for any depends on how much they’re grown without being claimed. The seeds for each jackpot are €1, €5, €100, €25,000, or €500,000, respectively.
Bonus Buy
The only other way to trigger the free spins bonus is to buy it outright. You can use the buy bonus feature to feature it for 50 times your current stake.
Pros
- Some fun mechanics with a chance of hitting a life-changing amount of money, if you're extremely lucky, of course.
Cons
- Dare I say the local jackpot/max win of 8,000x is underwhelming?
Space Attacks Dream Drop Slot Review Final Thoughts
While the quirky alien attack theme has been done to death, I have to admit that I did enjoy the Space Attacks slot. It has a nice blend of features, and when there's a chance to win a huge jackpot thanks to the Dream Drop feature, it can only be a positive.
