Space Donkey (Nolimit City) Slot Demo & Review

A couple of things came to mind as Nolimit City’s Space Donkey slot game loaded up on my screen. The first of these was remembering there was a time when this style of graphics was as good as it got on any video game, which now seems many moons ago. The second was a flashback of playing the legendary 1942 in a Christchurch hostel in 2002; damn, how time flies, but I still breezed through that game just like when it was back in the arcades on 10p a play. As for Nolimit City’s slot, we’re presented with a 6-reel game with 46,656 ways to win, an RTP of 96.07%, and a maximum win of 14,649x bet.

The in-game features are too complex to explain as we usually do in this section, so I’ll keep it brief, and we can dig into the details in the designated sections further into the review. Okay, so in the base game, we have Abduction Wilds and the Hellfire modifiers that can both trigger, whilst two bonus rounds, Hide N’ Seek and Seek N’ Destroy, can both be activated when 3 or 4 scatters land in view, respectively. Topping off the features, we have the usual Nolimit Bonus Buy Options, where both bonus rounds can be triggered instantly for a fixed price.

Were you a master of the 8-bit video games back in the day, or are you one of our visitors from the modern generation wondering what the hell is 1942? Whichever category you fall into, you can still enjoy our free Space Donkey slot demo, available to play below.

Space Donkey Paytable

We know that not all of our visitors are aware of some of the terminology used on the site, so if you’re still sitting scratching your head about what an online slot with 8-bit graphics is, there are a few other examples for you to look at. Those who do know what it means, maybe you’ve just forgotten about some of these games and want to play them again. So, notable mentions and slot games we like are Thunderkick’s Flame Busters, Blue Guru Games, Napoleon Vs Rabbits, and if you’re feeling a bit festive, then Relax Gaming’s Santas Stack is also worth checking out. For now though, we’re back on track with Nolimit’s Space Donkey slot, so on to the pays section we go.

Claiming the top spot on the paytable as the highest paying symbol is the Monkey, worth 4x the bet for a six of a kind win. He’s followed by the Spitfire at 1.75x, the Alien at 1.4x, with the final two premium payers being the Gun and Bullets, paying 1.25x and 1x, respectively, for winning combos of six. It’s the industry standard royals in play for the low pays, with the Ace worth 0.75x, a King at 0.7x, the Queen at 0.5x, followed by the Jack 0.45x, a Ten at 0.4x, and finally the Nine, paying 0.25x for a completed line of six.

We have quite an impressive range of bets on the Space Donkey slot, with the minimum price to play starting at €0.20, whilst the maximum cost of a spin reaches €200. Due to the fact that Nolimit City games can and do actually pay their max wins, it’s pretty unlikely you’ll see anything like the higher range of bets for real money play that you find here in the demo.

Space Donkey Slot Base Game

Space Donkey Base Game
Space Donkey base game

With a reel matrix of 6×5 in the base game, Nolimit City’s Space Donkey slot has a total of 46,656 ways for players to win. You’ll need to hit three matching symbols on consecutive reels starting from the leftmost reel first for a win to be credited to your balance. Easy Peasy, right! Each winning combo achieved will then activate the cascading reels mechanic, which eliminates winning symbols from the reels, in turn creating space for new symbols to fall into. These reel tumbles will continue until you fail to connect a new win.

Abduction Wild

The Abduction Wild Symbol may appear in the main game on reels 2 through 6. When a wild is involved in a win, it will remain and enhance for the next drop. The wild will move downwards, abduct all normal paying symbols, and increase its multiplier by one for each symbol removed.

Hellfire

In the main game, Chopper Symbols may appear on reels 2 through 5. If 3 or more chopper symbols hit, the Hellfire feature will trigger. The first Chopper symbol will fire in one direction, the second in two directions and so on. Chopper’s multiplier will be added to all wild and normal paying symbols in that direction. Each Chopper’s multiplier will be in the range of 2 – 10. The multiplier counts as the number of symbols on that position.

Space Donkey Slot Bonus Features

Space Donkey Bonus Feature

Two bonus rounds can be triggered in Space Donkey. These are the Hide N’ Seek feature, activated when 3 scatter symbols land in view, and the Seek N’ Destroy feature, which triggers when 4 scatters hit.

Hide N’ Seek Feature

Once activated, triggering scatters will convert to traps in a 6×6 grid area where edges of the playfield are connected to the opposing edges. Each turn would display two values: ‘Direction’ and ‘Steps’, making the Monkey move around collecting the chest values. The Monkey will stop working further once its life is taken. The Monkey will start with 3 lives. The Monkey and Alien will lose a life when they encounter each other or walk into a trap. The traps are removed when the Monkey walks into them, which isn’t the case with the Alien. When the Monkey walks over a position, it will trigger/collect whatever ability the symbol holds. Removed symbols will trigger a drop on the reel, allowing new symbols to fall. Trap symbols do not drop. The following symbols are available in this mode:

  • Traps: Takes a life from the Money and disappears.
  • Grey Chest: Awards an extra life, multiplier value, an upgrade to Seek N’ Destroy or nothing.
  • Golden Chest: Awards multiplier value.
  • Teleport: Revealed from a Grey Chest and immediately triggers Seek N’ Destroy.
  • Alien: Take a life from the Monkey.
  • Magician: Awards the total sum of all Golden Chests in view.
  • King: Multipliers the values on the Golden Chests with a random multiple between 2x – 10x.
  • Princess: Collects the value from adjacent Grey and Golden Chests in all directions and kills adjacent Alien.
  • Stone Monster: Affects these 3 symbols on random positions. Golden Chest multiplier gets doubled up, Grey Chest opens up, and Alien gets killed.

The Alien performs the following during this feature:

  • Moves one step towards the Monkey after the Monkey has moved.
  • On Reaching the Monkey, it takes a life from it and disappears.
  • Upon reaching a Chest, it adds the Chest Multiplier to its value.
  • When reaching a Magician, King, Princess or Stone Monster, it adds x1 to its value.
  • Upon reaching a Trap, it dies, leaving a Golden Chest on its starting position. It then equally spreads its value to Golden Chests adjacent to the Trap or retains the entire value. The Alien will leave nothing if it doesn’t have any value.
  • If it is killed by a Princess or Stone Monster, it behaves like when it reaches a Trap but spreads its value equally to Golden Chests adjacent to its starting position.

* Once the Alien has vanished, it may respawn in the following reel avalanches, taking the value of the symbol it appears on. When the Teleport is discovered, the feature will end immediately and Seek N’ Destroy is triggered. The Monkey’s extra life (beyond 1) will convert to extra Monkey Shield(s) in Seek N’ Destroy.

Seek N’ Destroy

Any scatters over four that trigger this feature will add an extra Monkey Shield. The bonus is played on a 5×6 playfield, with random multipliers positioned above columns 2 – 6 whilst Aliens move towards Monkeys on each turn. The Monkey will jump to a random row for each turn and fire a weapon to kill the Aliens and ultimately destroy the Mothership. On each turn, an alien with a multiplier comes in from all horizontal launcher tubes. Once killed, its value is multiplied by the columns multiplier and awarded. Aliens can have different amounts of lives. Apart from Aliens, Booster symbols awarding a Shield or Weapon upgrade may also appear in the launcher tube. The feature ends when the Monkey has no more lives or Monkeypendence Day is triggered. On each turn during the bonus, the following will occur:

  • The Monkey moves to a new row.
  • Aliens/Booster symbols move one step to the left.
  • Launch Tubes spawn a new wave of Aliens.
  • A random weapon is chosen and fired straight ahead by the Monkey.
  • Any killed Alien’s value(s) is awarded after being multiplied by the corresponding column multiplier.

The different weapons the Monkey can fire are:

  • Link Gun: Takes the life of all Aliens of the same kind. If no Alien is present, it will fire 1/2 Launch Tubes. Fires twice if upgraded.
  • Laser Gun: Takes the life of all Aliens in the same row, including the Launcher Tube. Also kills Aliens in adjacent rows if upgraded.
  • Nuke: Takes the life of all Aliens in one column. If no Alien is present, it will also fire at neighbouring Launch Tubes. Fires twice if upgraded.
  • Rail Gun: Kills an Alien. Fires twice if upgraded.

The Launcher Tube has 3, 4, 5, 4, and 3 lives (starting from the top row). Each weapon fired reduces one life from the Launcher Tube and Mothership. Once a Launcher Tube is destroyed.:

  • 100x bet is awarded for each Launcher Tube.
  • All Aliens in neighbouring rows are destroyed, and their values are awarded.
  • Once destroyed, the Launcher Tube will not spawn new aliens.

On reaching the left edge of the Launcher Tube on the same row as the Monkey, Aliens will remove a shield/life from the Monkey. Booster symbols, in this case, will award a shield or weapon upgrade.

Last but not least, we reach Monkeypendence Day. The Mothership has 25 lives, which decreases by 1 every time a Launcher Tube is shot. When the Mothership or all Launcher Tubes are destroyed, the bonus round will end, and a random multiplier of 5x, 10x, 15x, or 20x will be awarded, which multiplies the accumulated bonus win.

Space Donkey Slot Review Final Thoughts

Nolimit's Space Donkey is certainly filled with enough features and modifiers to keep any slot fanatic happy, but whether taking the time to learn how they all work will put some players off, we will have to wait and see.
