Soccer, or football as everybody outside of the United States calls it, is the world’s most popular sport and is played in every country I can think of. The most significant leagues are mainly based in Europe, such as the English Premier League and Spanish La Liga, but South America is also mad about the sport and has some world-class teams and tournaments of their own. We’ve seen many football-themed slots in the past, such as SG Gaming and their title Subbuteo Star Striker, but never anything like this. Again, you need to see it to understand it, and I am confident you will be impressed with the sheer ingenuity that Quickspin has shown with this title!
Our favourite spinion wears a red shirt with a giant “W” emblazoned on it, signifying his position as the game’s wild. He’ll pay you 12x your bet for a complete pay line of five-of-a-kind, whilst the highest-paying regular symbol is the soccer boots at 8x for all five. The goalkeepers’ gloves are worth 6x for a full pay line, followed by the megaphone at 5x, and finally, a hat (I think?) and whistle, both of which pay 4x for five-of-a-kind. Five royals make up the bottom half of the table, and there is no cash prize for any bonus or scatter symbols. I hate that this seems to have become a trend these days!

Base Game & Modifiers
Let’s get down to business finally, Spinions Game Day uses a typical 5×3 playfield, but the backdrop of a soccer pitch makes the game look anything but typical. Spinning the reels clears the pitch before a new set of players and symbols appear on the field, but the football action doesn’t stop here – check out this all-important modifier:
Passing Wild Modifier
This modifier will be triggered if two or more wild symbols land on the reels on a single spin. The wilds do not have to be on the same pay line but will become sticky for the duration of the passing wild feature. The game will then award you a free re-spin, and a football will land at the feet of one of your wild players.
After the re-spin, your wild players will move randomly around the field. The ball will be passed from one player to another with each re-spin, including any new wilds which land during the free re-spins. Each time a player receives the ball, he will gain a 1x multiplier, increasing with every subsequent pass received.
After the initial pass and re-spin, you will receive additional re-spins if new wilds continue to land on subsequent spins. It’s not quite a soccer match, but watching your players kick the ball around the screen can be great fun, especially if lots of players show up during your re-spins!
Spinions Game Day Slot Free Spins Feature
Land three scatter symbols on reels one, three, and five, and it’s game day! You’ll receive ten free spins to start with, but you can easily boost this total by hitting just one more scatter whilst the feature is in play.
In the Game Day free spins feature, you can win five extra free spins by catching just a single scatter on reel five. Any wilds that land during this mode will become sticky until the end of the bonus round, but rather than becoming locked in place like most other sticky wild games, the wilds will move around the field at the start of each free spin.
Just as in the passing wild modifier, once you have two or more players on the screen, they will pass the ball between themselves in between spins, increasing their multiplier value with each pass received. This can be a great feature if you can hit a couple of retriggers early on – I hit over 300x my bet whilst I was testing the game for this review, which is a fantastic result for such a short session!
Bonus Buy Feature
For a cost of 60x the normal bet, you can skip the base game and go straight to the free spin bonus round. The RTP of the game increases by half a percent when using this option too, and for just 60x, this option seems like a very fair deal to me.
Spinions Game Day Slot Review Final Thoughts
I love the look of this game, which surprised me as I was never that keen on other Spinions slots, such as their beach party escapades. The football aspect is well done, although I think they could have gone even further with penalty kicks, throw-ins, corners, and other such things. I guess QuickSpin have plenty to work with when it comes to the sequel, don’t they!
