Game Overview
Do you remember all the classic games that usually came pre-installed on the Windows operating systems? Those old enough will surely know what I’m talking about, the likes of Solitaire, Spider Solitaire, Freecell, Hearts, Pinball, and Minesweeper. A bit of research tells me that this stopped with Windows 8 onwards, although we can still download and play modern versions of those classics via the Microsoft Store. If Minesweeper was one of your favourites, you might opt against that when realising I’m reviewing Mines, a casino game version of that game from Spribe Gaming with a 97% RTP that could land you wins of up to 10,000x the stake if you have the wits, of course.
The idea is to pick from the 25 positions on a 5×5 gaming grid to reveal Star symbols or Mines. If you continue to guess correctly to reveal mines, the win multiplier of your stake increases with each. The further you get, and the fewer positions remain, the bigger the multiplier jumps. However, guess wrong at any time, the round ends, and you win nothing. Of course, after each step, you’re given the opportunity to cash out what you’ve previously won or carry on in the hope of winning more. As with many Spribe Gaming casino games, Mines is a title that will test your wits. You can even increase or reduce the risk of a game by choosing how many mines you want present on the playing grid during a round.
If you have fond memories of the Microsoft version of this game but like the idea of playing it with a chance of winning money, check out the Mines demo below.
Mines slot theme, stakes, pays & symbols
Many of Spribe Gaming’s most popular titles offer a similar risk and reward aspect that could favour the brave just as much as punish them. Aviator, the developer’s flagship title, requires you to cash out an increasing win multiplier before a plane crashes to leave you empty-handed. This isn’t the first Mines game we’ve come across at online casinos either, as Hacksaw Gaming offers Mines Dare2Win, a similar title, although you can play on a grid of up to 9×9 in size.
So how much can you win playing Mines? Well, the maximum win is listed at 10,000x the stake, but I’d imagine that’s only possible when selecting 20 mines on the grid, leaving only 5 stars. You’d probably have to pick out all five before a mine to land that maximum win. The problem is that Spribe Gaming doesn’t list the payout configurations for each successful step and how they improve the win multiplier. All I can tell you is the increases are more significant the more starting mines there are and the further you get.
As for the staking options, you can wager between €0.10 and €100.00 per round, with 13 other options supported between those minimum and maximum values. So, whether you want to risk just a little or a lot each game, there will be a suitable bet size here for you to choose from.
How to Play Mines
Assuming you’ve chosen a stake between those values above, the next step is to decide how many starting mines you want hidden on the grid. Obviously, the more there are, the bigger the risk (and payouts) for each successful guess. You can play it safe with just a single mine or go all for nothing and the big wins by having as many as 20 in random positions.
Once you are happy with the bet and configuration you want to play on, click the ‘Bet’ button to confirm the start of the game. You’re now tasked with clicking the positions where you hope to find a Star. If you guess correctly, you can click the same button to collect the win multiplier and payout achieved. Alternatively, you can carry on picking more positions. Above the reels to the right, you’ll see the next win multiplier you’ll unlock with a correct guess.
If you’d rather let the game run along without much input from yourself, you can set up to 500 auto-games with pre-selected multiplier values you want to auto-cash out for you.
Pros
- An impressive 97% RTP.
- I doubt any of you would turn your noses up at a 10,000x the stake maximum win.
Cons
- The game looks dated, and even though that's its style, it could be off-putting for some players
Spribe Mines Review Final Thoughts
Mines is a mini-game that offers quick and easy gameplay and the chance to win up to 10,000x the stake. Yes, there are other versions of this game available to play, but Spribe are arguably the best at making crash games in the iGaming industry so make sure you give this one a try along with the rest of their collection.
