Spring Break Demo Slot (Microgaming) Slot Demo & Review

In most parts of the world, a “Spring Break” is just a typical term used to describe a short school holiday or perhaps a family getaway towards the end of the off-season before the prices start getting too outrageous for some families to afford. Microgaming’s Spring Break online slot is based on a slightly different, US-centric interpretation of the term however – more on that later. It’s a 9 payline game with an RTP of 96.10% and a maximum win of 10,000x your bet.

The Spring Break video slot itself is ancient by now, but its roots are even older – this is a clone of the massively popular Thunderstruck video slot, and not the first one either. Microgaming used this math model and set of mechanics to death at one stage, creating versions of the concept intended to appeal to as many segments of the market as possible. That’s all well and good and all, but there is such a thing as overdoing it! Like Thunderstruck then, the only bonus here is a 15x free spin round that features a 3x multiplier.

You probably don’t need it, but should you wish to play our free demo slot of Spring Break you can check it out right here on your desktop, tablet, and mobile devices.

Paytable For Spring Break Slot

In the United States, the term “Spring Break” takes on a whole new meaning – students from around the country will flock to the Sunshine States of Florida, California, and New Jersey, then proceed to party on a level that they have probably never experienced before. The drinking age over there is 21, after all, so many of these college students get real drunk, real fast, and the chaos that ensues is as intense as it is predictable. Despite being refreshed in the past few years for the HTML5 age, Spring Break still looks extremely old. The high-definition graphics are simply not enough to hide the fact that this game will soon reach its own 21 birthday, and the loss of the music from the original leaves you with only droning reel sounds to supplement your play. Be sure to have a playlist on standby for this one.

The wild is the best symbol in the Spring Break slot game, with a payout of 10,000x your stake for a full line of five. Whoa! That’s a pretty chunk maximum from a simple line win by anybody’s standards, and can also be tripled to 30,000x during the free spins feature. Of course, this is the same as in Thunderstruck – Spring Break is a 100% clone through and through – but that doesn’t make it any less impressive. The high paying picture symbols have impressive pay outs of their own as well – 750x, 400x, and 250x for the best of them, all of which can be doubled if the winning line contains a wild, and all of which can be tripled after that too if you are in the free spins feature! Yes, this is one big paying game – just be aware though, high variance slots must fund their wins from somewhere, and that “somewhere” happens to be the hundreds of other players who lost their bankroll funding the lucky players wins.

You can choose to play from €0.09 per spin or a penny per line, all the way up to €45.00 per spin (€5.00 per line). This is a very wide range of bet sizes so should cover all but the craziest and/or richest of online gamblers out there.

Base Game & Modifiers

Play With 5 Reels, 9 Paylines, And Win Up To 10,000x Your Bet In Microgaming's Spring Break Online Slot

The Spring Break video slot takes place on a 5×3 reel setup, and the nine lines are in the typical positions that you would expect them to be considering the age of the game. The ninth line has always bugged me though – it creates a zig-zag shape that starts and finishes on the centre row, dropping down at the start and ascending all the way to reel four. That’s fine, but the inverse of this pattern is not paid, leading to endless frustration when you see such a combination land and then realize you haven’t won anything. You must wonder – why didn’t they just make these games ten paylines?

The only “feature” to speak of is that a wild forming any part of a winning combination doubles the value of that combination. I don’t think this warrants its own subheading though, so let’s move on.

Spring Break Slot Free Spins Feature

Trigger The Free Spins Feature On Spring Break Video Slot And Play With A 3x Win Multiplier

The scatter in Spring Break is represented by the “Beach Party” symbol and hitting three or more of them will trigger the free spins bonus round. It’s also worth noting that hitting five scatters pays out 500x your stake as well, but the pay out for three and four scatters isn’t anything special. Starting out with 500x your stake already in the bank is already a great start to any feature, so if you do manage to hit that particularly combination, you can be satisfied that even if the free spins are poor, you are still walking away with a tasty win!

You begin the free spins feature in Spring Break video slot with fifteen free spins on the counter, but you can also retrigger these at any time by hitting three or more additional scatter symbols. Furthermore, the prize for hitting five scatters is tripled during the free spins feature – that’s 1,500x your stake just for hitting the scatters! It won’t happen often and, indeed, I have never had this happen to me in Thunderstruck or any of its clones. That said, I *have* managed to hit five scatters in Thunderstruck 2 with the 5x multiplier free spins active, so I certainly cannot complain!

Retriggers seem to occur quite frequently in this feature, and you will often find yourself with thirty or more free spins remaining after already playing 15-30 spins! There is no limited on the number of times that the free spins can be retriggered, so if you are lucky, who knows? Maybe somebody has played upwards of 200 or even 300 free spins before; the maximum I have seen in a YouTube video is seven retriggers, so it doesn’t seem outside the realm of possibility!

Spring Break Slot Review Final Thoughts

There’s nothing I can say here that I haven’t already said about Thunderstruck – it’s the same game, after all. The graphics don’t feel as if they stand up as well here as they seem to do in Thunderstruck though, and I also must question just how many people would prefer this “Spring Break” theme over Ladies Night and Thunderstruck – the two widely acknowledged most popular uses of this math model and paytable.

It’s a great game – but why not just play Thunderstruck instead?
