Squid Game One Lucky DaySquid Game One Lucky DaySlot Demo & Review

The Netflix series Squid Game smashed onto our screens in late 2021, quickly proving to be a massive hit with viewers and one of the streaming service’s most successful releases. It was based on a dystopian world, where a group of desperate people are offered the opportunity to partake in several challenges, with the winner emerging with a life-changing cash prize and the many losers being unceremoniously executed. The drama, suspense and brutality of the show left fans clamouring for more, so I’m sure they’ll be thrilled to learn that provider Light & Wonder have created a slot game inspired by the series. It’s titled Squid Game One Lucky Day, and it’s a medium volatility, five-reel, four-row game with an RTP of 95.95% and a potential maximum win of 4,560x.

The colourful and slightly surreal backdrop to the game is well presented and instantly recognisable. This scene is perfectly complimented by the sound of the unnerving theme music, which has been taken directly from the official show. The slot action takes place on a conventional 5×4 grid across 40 fixed paylines, and whilst the base game is a fairly standard affair, there are three different bonus variants to make up for this. These are each based on a challenge from the series, with red light, green light, the glass bridge, and the tug of war games all receiving an outing. There is also a bonus buy option available, where these features can be purchased directly for a very reasonable cost of just 50x.

If you were a fan of the series, I’m sure you’ll love this slot and look forward to taking on the challenges yourself. You won’t need to wait long; just fire up the Squid Game One Lucky Day demo slot and test your skills; it’s free to play below!

There aren’t many greater pleasures in life than kicking back and binge watching an exciting TV series, and many of the most popular productions have now found their way over to the pages of online casinos in slot form. One of my favourites is Game of Thrones, a high volatility slot with a potential maximum win of 20,500x. Relive the epic action of the screen version across 243 payways and choose which house your loyalties lie with during its bonus round that features stacked wild reels. We also have Breaking Bad Cash Collect & Link, themed on one of the best shows ever created; it’s another high variance slot from Playtech where you’ll team up with Heisenberg as he helps you cook up the winning formula for a big win in its cash collect and free spins bonuses. Anyway, that’s enough lazing around staring at the TV; there is work to be done. Let’s move on to the paytable, where we’ll begin analysing the features of Squid Game One Lucky Day in further detail.

The top symbols featured on Squid Game One Lucky Day are the Wild and Squid Game logo symbols, which will both return 60x the total stake for each line of five. Next, it’s the Front Man at 30x and the Red Light Green Light Doll at 15x. These are followed by the final two premium symbols, the Square Guard at 8x and Player 456 at 4x. The non-premiums featured are the Umbrella, Star, Triangle, and Circle Sugar Cookies, which will all pay 2x for a winning combination of five.

There are 20 different stake options to choose from, which range from a low of €0.10 to a high of €10.00. The top end on offer here is very low compared to most other games, so the highest of rollers may be a little disappointed. However, the large number of offerings available at the lower end will keep the vast majority of players happy.

Squid Game One Lucky Day uses a five-reel grid, with four-row positions on each and 40 fixed paylines. All winning combinations are achieved by matching at least three corresponding symbols from left to right, commencing on the leftmost reel along any of these paylines.

Scatter symbols appear on reels 1, 3, and 5 only, and landing three scatters within the same spin will trigger the bonus feature. The scatter symbol on the fifth reel will flip over, randomly awarding one of three available bonus variants, which are Glass Bridge, Tug of War, and Red Light, Green Light.

Glass Bridge Bonus

Choose to move left or right along the glass bridge, collecting feature upgrades as you go. If you make the wrong move and fall through or miraculously reach the end of the 18 possible steps, the bonus will begin with the set-up that has been accumulated. The types of upgrades that can be collected at each step are as follows:

  • Free Spins: 1, 2, or 3 extra free spins
  • Wild upgrades: Falling wilds, walking wilds, or sticky wilds
  • Multiplier: +1 multiplier that is applied to all wins
  • Symbol Removal: Removes a low paying symbol from the reels

Tug Of War

Two teams battle it out above either side of the grid, pulling a full stacked wild reel across the screen. A minimum of one stacked wild reel is guaranteed on each spin, but up to a maximum of four wild reels can be awarded. There is no pre-defined number of spins, but the feature will end once one team pulls the full reel wild off the grid on either side. Once this occurs, the losing team will fall, leaving between three to ten wild symbols behind on the grid; once the relevant payout from that occurrence has been made, the bonus will be over.

Red Light, Green Light Bonus

You will start this feature at the beginning of the game board and attempt to make it to the other end without being caught by the doll. To achieve this, you must choose to take either 1, 2, 3, or 4 steps on each turn, with the lower numbers having less risk and less reward and the higher numbers offering more risk and better rewards. Being caught by the doll at any time will end the bonus and pay out any accumulated winnings, whilst each successful bound will award the following randomly selected values:

  • 1 Step: 1x, 2x, 3x, 4x, 5x, or 10x the stake value.
  • 2 Steps: 2x, 3x, 4x, 5x, 10x, or 20x the stake value.
  • 3 Steps: 3x, 4x, 5x, 10x, 20x, 30x, 40, or 50x the stake value.
  • 4 Steps: 4x, 5x, 10x, 20x, 30x, 40x, 50x, or 100x the stake value.

Successfully reaching the end of the red light, green light game board will award the Jackpot Bonus feature. This will take you to a screen where you’ll need to select from several mystery symbols. Once you have revealed three of the same characters, their value will be paid as a prize, and the feature will end. The possible jackpot values and associated characters are detailed below:

  • Frontman: 4,560x.
  • Square Guard: 456x.
  • Triangle Guard: 45.6x.
  • Circle Guard: 4.56x

Bonus Buy

Squid Game One Lucky Day is a bonus buy slot, and players can trigger the feature instantly via the Buy Pass button. The cost is 50x the selected stake value, and once purchased, one of the three bonus variants will be triggered at random.

Pros

  • The theme of the original show has been well represented.
  • There are three different bonus variants.
  • Low bonus buy cost.

Cons

  • The base game lacks excitement.
  • There doesn't appear to be any real potential of hitting a huge win.

Squid Game One Lucky Day Slot Review Final Thoughts

I enjoyed the Squid Game Netflix series, so this slot was always going to appeal to me as long as it did justice to the theme, and it has done. The graphics and music are spot on, and it would appear to be a genuine production rather than a cheap rip-off version. The base game is slightly dry, essentially just a bog-standard line pay slot, so it would have been nice to see some enhancing features added. However, the three different bonus rounds are all great fun in their own way, and it's good to see such a level of variety between the three. They don’t seem to possess massive win potential, though, and the only way you’ll get near the game's maximum win is via the top jackpot amount that can be won after getting to the end of the red light, green light bonus. This is reflected in the low bonus buy cost, though, so you’ll get plenty of shots at it for your money without going broke.
