Steamworks (Peter & Sons) Slot Demo & Review

I think we’re all aware that slot games aren’t exactly a fresh invention from the digital age; they go way back to a time when pulling a lever and hearing those mechanical clicks was the thrill of playing. Now, I know steam power had its moment as one of the most game-changing advances of its time, but I’m fairly certain we’ve never had a steal-powered slot machine – maybe because it’d probably require half a boiler room just to spin the reels. Honestly, though, wouldn’t that make for a spectacular setup? If you’re struggling to imagine what that would look like, you’ll get an idea by playing the Peter & Sons slot release, Steamworks: The Workshop, a 3×3 slot with 5 paylines, a 96.17% RTP, and 2,500x the stake maximum win.

As the details above suggest, Steamworks: The Workshop is not the most dynamic slot you’ll encounter, aside from the top-notch graphics and animations. There are just three reels and a handful of features, the first of which is a third ree re-spin mechanic that kicks into action when the first two reels are identical, but no wins come as a result. The third reel is given a re-spin to give you a second chance at completing a winning combination. Another is the full-screen combination multipliers of up to 10x that will apply when all positions reveal the same matching symbols. Finally, there’s a free spins bonus with no low-value symbols on the reels and the chance to multiply full-screen combinations by up to 50x the stake.

Check out the Steamworks: The Workshop slot demo below. It features impressive visuals and has a few exciting features.

When I first saw the title of this slot, I immediately thought it might be another entry in the world of steampunk-inspired games, like Relax Gaming’s Money Train and Money Cart series, NetEnt’s Steam Tower, or Red Tiger Gaming’s Steam Squad. But, while steam is certainly the main ingredient here, Steamworks: The Workshop isn’t exactly another dive into the steampunk aesthetic. Instead, it takes a more inventive angle, focusing on the transformative impact of steam innovation on industries worldwide.

Next, let’s steamroll to the paytable on Peter & Son’s latest release. The Wild symbol, which substitutes for regular symbols when winning combinations are possible, holds the best value, returning 3x the stake when three line up across a payline. The Diamond pays 4x, the Horseshoe is worth 2x, and the Red Seven and Star return 1.6x and 1.2x, respectively. Fruits are the low pays, with the Plum paying 0.8x, the Blueberries worth 0.6x, the Cherries returning 0.4x, and the Lemon rewarding 0.2x

Over to the bet selection, and the smallest stake permitted is €0.10 per spin, whilst the maximum you can play for, at least on the demo, is €1,000.00. The spread of options between these values is reasonable, and players of all budgets shouldn’t have a problem finding an amount to spin at.

Base Game & Modifiers

The reel format on Steam works: The Workshop is not the most sophisticated you’ll have seen from Peter & Sons, with the playing grid featuring just three reels and three rows. Across those are five fixed paylines, and you’re tasked with landing three symbol combinations across, from left to right.

Third Reel Respins

Steamworks isn’t blessed with heaps of features. However, a Third Reel Re-Spin feature kicks into action when the first two reels reveal the same symbols, but the third reel prevents the creation of any winning combinations. When that happens, the third reel is given a re-spin to provide a second chance to create a payout.

Full-Screen Combination Multipliers

Landing the same symbol on all positions on the reels results in a double whammy, as you receive combination wins across all five paylines, and those payouts also have a random multiplier applied. The multiplier wheel to the left of the reels will spin through and reveal a win multiplier of 1x, 2x, 3x, 5x, 7x, 8x, or 10x.

Steamworks slot bonus features

You will trigger 10 free spins on Steamworks whenever the scatter symbol appears on the middle reel as a result of a base game spin.

Free Spins Feature

During the free spins bonus, all low-value symbols are removed from the reels, and full-screen combination multipliers can now be 5x, 10x, 15x, 20x, 25x, or 50x.

Bonus Buy

Using the buy bonus feature, you can bypass the base game and purchase the free spins bonus for 70x the current spin bet.

Pros

  • The industrial theme on Steamworks: The Workshop, is executed beautifully.
  • While not packed with features, the Third Reel Re-Spin and Full-Screen Multipliers add depth to the gameplay.

Cons

  • Although the slot has an ok maximum win of 2,500x the stake, it may satisfy everyone.

Steamworks Slot Review Final Thoughts

Steamworks: The Workshop keeps things refreshingly simple with its compact 3x3 grid and five paylines, yet it doesn’t skimp on style. The game’s mechanics, while not complex, are engaging, and the visuals are outstanding. The moving cogs and machinery, especially, give it a unique industrial vibe, making each spin feel like part of a larger, intricately designed machine. It might not offer the most exciting gameplay, but in terms of design, you’ll not find many better newly released slots.
