Stockholm Syndrome (Nolimit City) Slot Demo & Review

Stockholm syndrome is a term used to describe a bond sometimes formed between a captor and a captive, but do you know when and where it was coined? Well, duh, obviously in Stockholm, but it was a particular crime that was the reason behind the coining of this psychological term. In a bank robbery in a Swedish city in 1973, the robber held four of the bank’s employees hostage for six days. However, to cut a long story short, once he released them, none of them testified against him in court. They had formed bonds while together, and the victims could see the real person within the robber. Game provider Nolimit City has captured the meaning of Stockholm Syndrome in its release of the same name and presents us with a 5-reel slot with 432 ways to win, a 96.08% RTP, and a 28,873x maximum win.

As you’d expect from a Nolimit City slot, Stockholm Syndrome features a ton of different mechanics, bonus features, and modifiers. It also has two free spins bonus games, a wealth of bonus buy options, and is designed in the Nolimit City art style many of you have come to know and love. There’s a lot to get through, so sit back, get comfortable, and put on your reading glasses as I get started.

Alternatively, you could just skip my rambling and play the Stockholm Syndrome slot demo below. It’s the perfect way to test out the slot without risking real cash in the process.

Stockholm Syndrome Slot paytable

You can almost set your watch by a Nolimit City release, as these days, the studio knocks out a couple of new titles at pretty much the same time every month. We’ve had some bangers already in 2024, with the likes of Beheaded, which isn’t for the faint of heart, Punk Rocker 2, the sequel to one of the slots that propelled NLC to their current level of popularity, and their previous release Apocalypse, a title I’m still enjoying to this day.

Okay, let’s get to grips with Stockholm Symbol and head over to the paytable, where the game has 10 regular paying symbols, split into high-paying and low-paying. The Character symbols represent the highs, with the Captor offering a 7.5x return for six in a row, the Woman Tied by a Phone Cable rewards a maximum of 4.5x, and the Brown Haired Woman tops out at 3.75x. The last of the premiums are the Duck-Taped Woman, worth up to 3x, and the Male Hostage, which returns up to 2.7x.  The P, O, L, I, and S symbols act as the lower pays, and these will return 2.25x, 1.95x, 1.8x, 1.65x, and 1.5x, respectively.

The standard betting range on Stockholm Syndrome takes a familiar shape for a Nolimit City slot, and players can opt to start the reels rolling from a minimum of €0.20 per, whilst at the top end of the scale, high rollers can bet big at up to €100 a spin.

Stockholm Syndrome slot base game

Stockholm Syndrome Slot base game

The Stockholm Syndrome slot features five reels in a 3-4-4-4-3 configuration, and payouts come your way whenever three or more matching symbols land on consecutive reels from left to right. Winning symbols explode so that more can fall into place, providing an opportunity for subsequent wins to come your way. Furthermore, on every spin, one randomly chosen character is chosen to hold a 2x, 3x, 4x, 5x, or 10x win multiplier

Wild Symbols

Two wilds can appear on the reels:

  • Con Man Wild Symbols: When this appears on the third reel, it appears fully stacked and unlocks the bottom section of the reel. One of the character symbols is chosen at random, and all instances transform into wild symbols.

  • xBomb Wild Symbols: These explode when they land, removing all adjacent symbols (not wilds or scatters) in the process. The win multiplier also increases by 1x. During the bonus games, this symbol only increases the multiplier and does not remove symbols.

Polis Modifier

This feature triggers whenever the P, O, L, I, and S symbols appear across the same row and on adjacent reels with no gaps. The first four positions of these symbols are given a 5x, 10x, 25x, 100x, 250x, 1,000x, or 5,000x coin value or Max Win. The fifth position receives a random number of keys up to 3. Those keys unlock one of those values and are totalled up and paid at the end.

SOS Modifier

On any non-winning base game spin, if the S, O, and S symbols land on the same row and adjacent with no gaps, the O transforms into an xBomb wild.

P*SS Modifier

When P, I, S, and S are spelt out on the same reel, from top to bottom, all the symbols transform into xBombs. This only happens on non-winning spins in the base game, while it always triggers during the bonus games.

Stockholm Syndrome slot bonus features

Stockholm Syndrome Slot
Stockholm Syndrome Slot free spins feature

There are two free spins bonus games on the Stockholm Syndrome slot, one that requires three or more scatter symbols to trigger and the other four. On any spin that lands two scatters with no cascade, the bottom position of the middle reel re-spins and can reveal a third scatter.

Hostage Free Spins

Three scatter symbols trigger the first free spins bonus, Hostage Spins. During this bonus, the position below the middle reel is unlocked permanently. Whenever the Con Man Wild symbol lands, its win multiplier increases by 1x, and you receive an additional free spin. It also upgrades the lowest-value symbol into the top-paying character symbol for the duration of the bonus. You also receive an additional spin each time a scatter lands, and xBomb multiplier symbols remain sticky on the reels.

Syndrome Free Spins

The second bonus game is the Syndrome Free Spins bonus, which requires four scatter symbols to trigger. You receive 8 free spins on reels where the Con Man Wild can now appear on the 3rd and 4th reels. It always nudges to land fully in view and collects all character symbols from the middle four reels. If there are two Con Man Wilds, the same symbols are collected twice. These fill each character’s collect meter, and once four of the five are full with five collected, the Syndrome feature triggers. This does the following to the four middle reels:

  • It turns the third reel fully wild, and there is a win multiplier applied depending on the character’s value below the reels. The multiplier starts at 2x and increases by 1x for each additional symbol collected above five.

  • The fourth reel becomes Infectious xWays, meaning a new position appears, and a random symbol is selected to appear double its size. All other instances of that symbol on the reel also become that size. The collected symbol below the fourth reel increases the Ways size by +1 for each extra collected symbol above 5.

  • Both the second and fourth reels become the xReel Split feature. All symbols on the reels are split into two. The character symbols below both reels increase their split by 1 for each collected symbol over 5.

Bonus Buy

It wouldn’t be a Nolimit City slot without a ton of bonus buy options to consider.

  • Hostage Spins: 80x the stake.
  • Syndrome Spins: 390x.
  • Lucky Draw 70/30: 183x.
  • Lucky Draw 50/50: 235x.
  • POLIS 1 Feature: A single POLIS feature for 150x.
  • POLIS 2 Feature: Two POLIS features for 300x.
  • POLIS 3 Feature: Three POLIS features for 450x.
  • POLIS 4 Feature: Four POLIS features for 1,500x.

POLIS 5 Feature: Five POLIS features for 8,000x – the slot’s max win of 28,873x is guaranteed as one of the options.

Pros

  • Typical action-packed slot with lots of features and modifiers.
  • As always, NLC think outside of the box with regard to their slot themes.

Cons

  • Not quite as engaging as some of their previous 2024 releases.
