Game Overview
There was a period some time ago when online slot developers were eager to try every possible new idea they could think of. This was a while before the Megaways craze, and Play’n’Go was one of the most prolific software houses that got involved in this frenzy of new ideas and innovation. One of their titles to appear during this time was the Super Flip slot – a 20-payline game that proudly advertises a jackpot of 1,000,000 coins on its paytable. Phrasing it in those terms makes it sound much more exciting than it is – the actual figure works out at 10,000x your stake.
There are only two unique hooks to the Super Flip online slot; the first is a respin that can potentially complete “near-miss” events, whilst the second is reserved for the free spins bonus. During the bonus, the reels are reversed, and the number of paylines is effectively doubled. This may look interesting and unique, but the “new” paylines are created by mirroring the existing ones. In short, it is similar to a 2x multiplier but with several disadvantages.
You can try Play’N’Go’s Super Flip demo slot right here in our review. The practice mode is accessible anytime on your desktop, tablet, and mobile devices, all for free.
Super Flip Slot Theme, Stakes, Pays & Symbols
Super Flip uses old-school fruit machine-style symbols and graphical touches, which are extremely well-drawn and attractive – just not very exciting. Our NetEnt Twin Spin demo uses similar imagery, and that game, too, only has a couple of simple modifiers. I’m guessing that the idea of these games is that they are perhaps something of a stepping stone between fully-fledged slots and old-style fruit machines. That’s just speculation, obviously, but it’s a theory that makes sense to me.
The top symbols on the paytable are the Wild and the Diamond, which both return 250x, 100x, and 50x for five, four, and three-of-a-kind, respectively. The scatter symbol also pays 250x your stake for all five, though this drops to 40x for four and just 2x for three. You need three scatters to trigger the free spins feature, too, so the latter feels like a slightly pointless inclusion. The remainder of the high paying symbols also pay in pairs, so it is easy to remember how valuable your win could be as it lands. The Star and Horseshoe symbols pay 80x for five-of-a-kind, while the Four-Leaf Clover and Strawberry return 40x.
Super Flip slot game is one of the few machines still out there that permit you to play fewer than the maximum number of lines. It’s a shame, but this feature appears to be going the way of the dodo recently. Setting your stake requires selecting the number of paylines you wish to bet on and then choosing a coin value between one penny and one euro. Finally, you can bet between one and five coins per pay line. Theoretically, then, you could bet a total of between €0.01 and €500 per spin.
Super Flip Slot Base Game & Modifiers
The base gameplay is as typical as it gets – a 5×3 play area is used, and the 20 paylines are in a fairly standard configuration. The symbols are stacked on the reels, though, and thank the lord for it, too – it would be nearly impossible to win much of anything if they were not. As the maximum payout for five-of-a-kind is 250x your stake, and the stacked symbols make a full screen of matching symbols possible, it should be theoretically possible to win a total of 250x your stake during the base game.
Respin Feature
The respin feature will activate when two full stacks of matching symbols land on reels one and two. The trouble is, the respin only affects the third reel. Because of this, the feature is only really exciting if you have full stacks on reels 1,2, 4 and 5, and you need a matching full stack on the third reel to pay a jackpot. In 90% of cases, the third reel will result in – at best – you hitting 20 paylines worth of three-of-a-kind wins. Many other times, the respin will yield nothing at all.
Super Flip Slot Bonus Features
Triggered whenever you hit three or more game logo scatter symbols, you will see the reels flip backwards before your spins start. You initially receive 15 free spins, although this can be retriggered up to a maximum of five times for a total of 90 free spins. I didn’t find this to be particularly common during testing, although I do remember seeing a few re-triggers when the game was first released.
Free Spins Feature
During free spins, wins are also paid from the right as well as the left – this effectively doubles the value of your five-of-a-kind wins but does nothing for any other type of win. This is what I meant in the opening paragraphs when I mentioned that this feature was similar to a 2x multiplier but inferior in many ways.
Even with this small tweak to the payout formula, a full screen of matching symbols can only yield a maximum of 500x your stake. This is confusing to me – the 1,000,000 coins number mentioned on the game’s paytable, is this referring to a hard limit? I cannot imagine so – not only would this mean that the game would limit potential free spin wins to 1,000x your stake, but it would also mean that you can win five times more by betting one coin per line than by betting five coins per line.
Pros
- A very simple slot to understand.
- Can be played on incredibly low stakes.
Cons
- Low max win.
- Casinos can operate the game on multiplier RTP models.
Super Flip Slot Review Final Thoughts
Super Flip is a pretty looking game, but there isn’t enough to keep even casual slots players interested for long. If low volatility slots are your thing, you might enjoy this for a while, but there are better alternatives out there. For example, the Golden Fish Tank slot by Yggdrasil and the Avalon slot by Microgaming offer slightly higher payouts and far more exciting gameplay.
