Superstars Slot (Netent) Slot Demo & Review

Upon hearing the title of this slot, you may begin to picture a space-themed game or perhaps a follow-up to NetEnt’s legendary Starburst online slot. As it turns out, Superstars is neither; it’s a much more interesting concept than that! No, the “Superstars” in question are the stars of several of NetEnt’s most popular games! You’ll find assets from Gonzo’s Quest, Starburst, Piggy Riches and more here, as well as a board game style bonus round, which should ensure that the majority of slots players will be interested in trying this game. The main game has 45 paylines, whilst the RTP is reportedly 96.08%. As for the maximum win, that comes in at a cool 4,596x bet.

The main bonus round is a three-spin feature that has been creatively mixed with a monopoly-style board game. It’s an interesting idea that plays well and has several sub-features, each based on a different NetEnt slot. There is also a “Final Game” sub-feature, but more on that one later! If you want to skip the plain old base game and go straight to this unique feature, a bonus buy facility is included at the cost of 150x the regular bet.

If you’re as curious as I am, then I have no doubt you are already keen to play this game for yourself, so go ahead and try our free demo slot of Superstars available to play below.

Paytable For The Superstars Slot
Superstars Slot paytable

The main screen of Superstars resembles the set of a television game show, with the 5×5 reel set positioned centre stage. I’m not sure which other games I could compare this to; perhaps the Spinions Game Day online slot, which used a football pitch as its backdrop? Both games have a unique appearance based on something you might expect to see on TV. Okay, I know it isn’t the best connection, but it’s all I could come up with! I’m sure there have been one or two game show themed slots over the years, but I couldn’t find anything here at Demoslot. How about the Spin a Winner online slot? Better yet, how about Deal or No Deal Megaways? And our survey said…

I’ve looked at several games with large numbers of paylines during the past few days, so I felt as if I knew what to expect when looking at the paytable of Superstars. Wow, was I wrong. The numbers offered here are much lower than the other 40+ payline games I have tested recently. The Starburst wild is the highest-paying symbol but has a return of just 5x the current bet for a full pay line of five-of-a-kind. Gonzo has taken some time off from his quest to appear in Superstars, and he, along with one of the aliens from Space Wars, is worth 3x your stake for all five symbols. Miss Banks & Finn (of Swirley Spinn fame) complete the top half of the paytable, each with a payout of 2x for complete pay lines. These symbols all appear in a stacked configuration on the reels, which helps to make up for the low payouts. However, I must assume that NetEnt has allocated a considerable share of this game’s RTP for its extensive bonus round.

Hit the stack of coins next to the bet button, and you’ll be confronted with one of the craziest “quick bet” selection screens I have seen in my life. It’s a full page of bet options, and whilst it does provide a quick means of changing the size of your wager, I can’t help but feel it looks slightly ridiculous. That aside, Superstars allows you to bet anywhere from €0.10 to €100.00 per spin, and there are more than enough intermediate options to satisfy every player.

Base Game & Modifiers

Win Up To 4,596x Your Bet In The Superstars Online Slot From Provider Netent Gaming
Superstars slot base game

There isn’t much to discuss regarding the base game of Superstars – all of the action is tied up in the board game themed bonus round, so we’ll keep this quick! The game uses an unusual 5×5 reel set, and you’ll need at least three matching symbols on one or more of the 45 paylines that criss-cross the grid to score some winnings.

The regular scatters are represented by large diamonds, perhaps borrowed from NetEnt’s Twin Spin online slot, but there is also a secondary scatter with the appearance of a die that appears on the fifth reel only. Any combination of three of these symbols will take you to that all-important bonus round – let’s talk about that now!

Superstars Slot Bonus Features

Superstars Slot Bonus Round

Hitting three scatter symbols – whether diamonds or dice – will trigger the bonus game. The triggering scatter symbols will be transformed into random prizes that will take the same positions in the bonus game as they had during the base game. If you trigger the bonus round with a die symbol, one additional dice will be added to your counter at the start of the bonus game.

Bonus Game

Okay, where do we start?! The bonus game has another 5×5 reel set located in the middle of a board, and these contain 25 random prizes of between one and 25x your bet. Dice symbols can randomly appear when any of these prizes appear, too.

Each dice you collect will give you one roll, which will help you progress around the board. There are several special features denoted by special spaces on the board:

  • Finn Feature – Adds +5 to five random prizes anywhere on the reels before combining those four prizes into one single new prize.
  • Gonzo Feature – Multiplies up to 24 random prizes on the board by 2x, 3x, or 5x.
  • Miss Banks Feature – Places up to 15 prizes on the reels with values of 1 to 5x your bet. The two values will be added together if a prize is placed on top of an existing prize.
  • Space Wars Feature – Awards three re-spins, with the three highest value prizes currently on the reels selected as the special symbols that can appear during the re-spins.
  • Starburst Feature – A vertical stack of three equal prizes will be placed on the reels. These prizes will range between 2x and 5x your current bet, and at least one of the prizes will be positioned on top of an existing prize. When this occurs, the two values will be multiplied together.
  • Extra Spins Feature – Denoted by two up arrows, this will increase the number of spins received each time the counter resets from three to four.
  • Extra Life Feature – Denoted by a “START” logo, this will give you an extra set of spins if your counter runs down to zero.
  • Wheel Feature – The wheel contains several additional features and spaces with one or two dice. The “random” feature will trigger one of the five special NetEnt features listed above, whilst the “upgrade” spaces will add a value of 1x to all empty spaces on the board.

If you are lucky enough to fill all 25 spaces in the middle of the board with prizes, you will be granted a shot at the final game. If you make it this far, all spaces around the board’s edge will be allocated a prize of 20x, 50x, 75x, 100x, 500x, or 1,000x your current bet, except for two spaces which will be given the dreaded “collect” function.

The number of rolls you receive on this ultra-high paying board is determined by a dice roll at the beginning of the final game, the total of which will be added to any remaining lives you had left from the previous phase of the feature.

All things considered, this is a fascinating and well-executed bonus round, and I can’t wait to see how much people manage to win whilst playing this part of the game on YouTube in the coming weeks and months!

Bonus Buy

If it is permitted within your jurisdiction, you can opt to skip straight to the bonus game for a somewhat pricey fee of 150x the regular bet. Whilst this is expensive, I imagine many players will feel it is worth the price, considering the huge potential of the bonus round.

Superstars Slot Review Final Thoughts

Superstars isn’t perfect; the payouts available in the base game are, frankly, horrible, and the bonus round can end very quickly if things don’t go your way. On the other hand, there is no question about the excitement and potential available here. I love the concept behind Superstars and would love to see other developers try their hand at similar games in the future. Give this one a try!
