That’s what I’d call the main symbols of Slotmill’s new Sweet Spotz online slot, but I guess this is yet another developer who prefers the more American definition of sweets. It doesn’t matter what you call them really though, these things look pretty tasty to me, and they seem to have some good payouts attached to them too! You’ll need at least 18 adjacent matching symbols to win this game’s biggest prizes, whilst the maximum jackpot from a single spin has been capped at 10,000x the total bet. The RTP of 95.48% is a little below average, although it’s possible to fix that by using the bonus buy facility, which maxes out at 96.62%.
I’m typically a big fan of this style of grid slot, as it allows you to win many times from a single spin. These games achieve this by exploding winning combinations and removing them from the reels, allowing new ones to ‘avalanche’ into their place. Wins are achieved by landing a cluster of five or more adjacent matching symbols but can also be boosted by wild multipliers, which appear after the second subsequent avalanche. The reels also contain regular cupcake wilds, which double as the bonus triggering symbol and mystery transform symbols. The fast-track bonus buy menu allows you quick access to the game’s various bonus features – providing that it’s available within your jurisdiction.

Sweet Spotz Slot Theme, Stakes, Pays & Symbols
Speaking of those doughnuts, haven’t we seen them before? Hmmm… Play’N’Go’s Sweet Alchemy 2, perhaps? The lower-paying symbols also look a little familiar, BGaming’s Sweet Rush Megaways, or Pragmatic Play’s Sweet Bonanza, maybe? Let’s be honest, a lot of these games look alike, but that doesn’t mean they aren’t great games – all of the titles I’ve linked are worth playing, with Pragmatic Play’s release being my pick of the bunch. Slotmill has a lot of competition with this style of game, but in my opinion, this release has both the presentation and payouts to compete.
The best of those payouts is reserved for the purple iced doughnuts, offering up to 125x the total stake for a maximum cluster of 18 or more adjacent matching symbols. That’s a lot more than the red doughnuts, paying 50x for a maximum cluster, whilst 18 or more of the green and blue varieties will award you 40x or 30x the current bet, respectively. The lower-paying symbols look like either boiled sweets or cakes, perhaps, and have been colour-matched with the higher-paying symbols. This means that the purple sweets are the most valuable, this time paying 15x the total bet for a maximum symbol cluster. The remaining three red, green, and blue sweets share equal returns of 12x the bet for 18 or more adjacent matching symbols.
The minimum/maximum permitted bet available in Sweet Spotz is €0.20 and €60.00 per spin, respectively. There is a good selection of bet sizes to play at within this range, so there should be more than enough options for players regardless of the size of their bankroll.
Base Game & Modifiers
The basic gameplay revolves around a grid-style playfield with six columns of six rows each. That gives a total of 36 unique symbol positions, meaning that you could theoretically achieve two of the game’s maximum 18 symbol clusters simultaneously! I’m not sure what the odds of such a thing ever happening would be though – certainly not small.
Cupcake Wilds
The cupcake (which looks a lot like an ice cream) is a wild symbol that substitutes for all other symbols. When a cupcake forms part of a winning combination, it will randomly move to another adjacent vacant position before the next avalanche sequence occurs.
Multiplier Sweet Spotz
When winning symbols are removed from the playfield, their previous positions will be marked with a highlight. If another winning combination later forms on the same spots, a new 2x multiplier symbol will be added in place of the highlight. On every subsequent avalanche, this multiplier will continue increasing by 2x with each subsequent win, rising to 4x after the total multiplier reaches 16x.
Mystery Transform
Mystery symbols are present on the reels both during the base game and the free spins bonus. These symbols will lay dormant until all winning combinations have exploded and no more avalanches are set to take place. At that time, the mystery transform symbol will activate and swap up to 10 symbols for another symbol, usually creating new winning combinations and starting the avalanche process off all over again.
Sweet Spotz Slot Bonus Features
The cupcake wild symbol triggers the bonus round in Sweet Spotz, and landing three or more of these during a single paid spin will award you six free spins. Unfortunately, there doesn’t seem to be any advantage to hitting more than three of these symbols other than that you are likely to win quite a bit from the clusters the symbols create.
Free Spins
At the start of every bonus round, all of the currently visible multiplier Sweet Spotz will be activated – this means that their multipliers will increase from the values they held on the last avalanche before the third free spin-triggering wild symbol landed on the reels. Additionally, all of these ‘activated’ Sweet Spotz cannot be removed for the entirety of the bonus round, making it much more likely they will reach the all-important 16x level where their value begins to increase by 4x with every passing avalanche.
Fast Trak Bonus Buy
Slotmill likes to call its bonus buy facility ‘fast track’, and it includes several options to choose from.
- Super Bonus (96.62% RTP) – Guarantees a game round with four cupcake wilds and a bonus round for 400x the current stake
- Bonus (96.43% RTP) – Guarantees a game round with three cupcake wilds and a bonus round for 100x the current stake
- 2+ Power Up (96.27% RTP) – Guarantees a game round with two cupcake wilds for 10x the current stake – a third cupcake wild may land as part of subsequent avalanches.
- 1+ Power Up (96.10% RTP) – Effectively a bonus bet, this only guarantees a single cupcake wild but does increase the odds of triggering the bonus significantly. Costs 2x the normal price per spin.
Pros
- The 10,000x jackpot is above average and feels about right, given the potential of the base game and bonus round.
- Multiple bonus buy options with fair prices.
- The free spins feature can award some amazing multipliers, especially if you already had some good ‘Sweet Spotz’ in place before the third triggering symbol appears!
Cons
- The standard RTP is a little below average, and some players won’t have the option of using the bonus buy facility to obtain a higher one.
- The value of each sweet spot increases by 4x per avalanche only once it gets past 16x - reaching that point outside of the free spins is extremely rare.
Final Thoughts
There’s nothing especially new or original about Sweet Spotz, but that doesn’t make the game any less exciting or fun. It absolutely gives me a serious feeling of déjà vu though!
