Tarasque (Print Studios) Slot Demo & Review

It’s always great to see a new Print Studios release pop up, as you can almost guarantee that a lot of time and effort will have gone into it. They’re certainly a provider that takes pride in their work and values quality over quantity. Hopefully, this latest creation will follow that pattern, it’s titled Tarasque, and it’s a high volatility, 8-reel, 8-row slot with an RTP of 96.30% and a potential maximum win of 20,000x.

Now, you all know what a tarasque is, right? Nope, me neither. Well, apparently, it is a mythical creature of French origin, which has the head of a lion, six legs, a turtle shell, the tail of a serpent, and poisonous breath. An unusual beast then, and having halitosis rather than the usual ability to breathe fire is a strange one, but the French do love their onions, so I guess it stands to reason! The next thing you’ll be struck by is the sheer size of this game’s 8×8 grid, itself filled with intricate portrait pictures of the various characters that appear on the symbols. Wins are achieved by matching clusters of five or more symbols, and the popular cascading reel mechanism complements this perfectly, with winning clusters filling a bar segmented into five sections. As each of these sections is filled, various modifiers will be triggered. Finally, it’s possible to up the ante through the Feature Bet option, where players can choose to pay extra to have up to 45 morphing symbols added to the reels on the initial spin.

Tarasque is packed full of features and intricate gameplay, so it can initially seem quite complicated before you fully understand how it all works. With that in mind, why not have a practice on the demo slot? It’s available here, and It’s free to play below!

Print studios are a relatively new provider, having only entered the scene in 2020 when given the opportunity to work in conjunction with Relax Gaming. Despite being the new boys on the block, they have already produced some great slots. One of the best is Royal Potato 2; it’s a high volatility slot with a max win of 40,000x and follows on from the success of the original Royal Potato game, offering players the chance to grow its sticky potato wild as big as the entire screen in its bonus round. They are also the creators of the brilliant Holy Hand Grenade. You wouldn’t necessarily put grenades and churchgoing into the same bracket, but it strangely works quite well. It’s another high variance title, with a top win of 20,000x, with an explosive free spins feature. With such a great back catalogue of slot games, that bodes well for Tarasque, so let’s learn more about the features and gameplay, starting with the paytable.

To achieve the maximum payout value for each symbol in Tarasque, you’ll need to see a cluster of 64, which is a full screen. It sounds tough, but the features of the game are set up to deliver on this ask. The top symbol is the Yellow Lady, who will return 1,000x your total stake for a cluster of 64. Next, it’s the Red Man at 400x, the Green Man at 300x, and the lowest value premium symbol, the Blue Man, at 200x. The Horseshoe, Lemon, Snail, and Clover are the non-premium symbols, and all will return 100x for each cluster of 64 symbols.

Looking at the stake options on Tarasque, Print Studios has included a decent selection for players to choose from. These range from a minimum of €0.10 to a maximum of €50.00.

Base Game & Modifiers

Tarasque Slot Base Game

Tarasque uses a cluster pays system over an 8×8 reel formation, where a minimum of five matching symbols must be touching anywhere on the screen to count as a winning combination. All symbols involved in a win are removed from the grid, with new ones falling in from the top thanks to the popular cascading reels mechanic.

Morphing Clusters

At the start of each spin, a symbol will be randomly selected as the morphing symbol and displayed in the top right of the screen. If there is a winning combination on that spin involving the designated morphing symbol, that cluster will transform into a different symbol adjacent to the cluster, and the morphing symbol will change to a new symbol. This process will repeat until there are no further matches between winning symbols and the morphing symbol.

Celestial Beings

At random, the Celestial Blessings feature may activate, multiplying the win value of any cluster pay by a value of x2, x3, x4, x5, x10, or x20.

Tarasque Slot Bonus Features

At the start of any spin, the order of the four Progressive Features will be randomly re-arranged on the progress bar displayed above the reels, which has five levels. This bar will be gradually filled by any symbols involved in a winning combination during that spin. Once it reaches each level, the relevant bar increment will be highlighted, and when there are no further wins, the highlighted feature located on the highest activated level of the bar will be triggered. The higher the level the bar has reached, the more powerful the feature will be. The four types of features are as follows:

Progressive Features

  • Wild Spikes: Adds wild symbols to random grid positions. 4, 7, 10, 15, or 24 wilds will be added for progress bar levels 1, 2, 3, 4, and 5, respectively.
  • Blazing Gaze: Removes a type of low paying symbol from the reels. 1, 2, 3, 4, or 5 symbol types will be removed for progress bar levels 1, 2, 3, 4, and 5, respectively.
  • Mage’s Morph: Adds Morphing Symbols to the reels, 6, 12, 23, 34, or 45 symbols will be added for progress bar levels 1, 2, 3, 4, and 5, respectively.
  • Bulking Beast: Increases the size of the Tarasque wild symbol to 2×1, 2×2, 3×2, 3×3, or 4×4 for progress bar levels 1, 2, 3, 4, and 5, respectively.

Tarasque – Devour & Unleash

The Tarasque symbol acts as a wild and is placed randomly on the grid once the first level of the progressive bar is activated. It has two stages, Devour, and Unleash.

  • Devour: Once on the grid, the Tarasque wild symbol will collect or devour any other symbols involved in a winning combination that it forms part of. Once there are no further wins or progressive features to be played, it will enter the Unleash stage.
  • Unleash: All symbols that have been collected will be grouped into symbols type and displayed above the reels, and the number of each will be shown. These symbols will then be added to the random positions on the reels, one symbol type after another, in the lowest value to the highest value order. Any winning combinations made through each type of symbol that is added will be allowed to play out before the next symbol type is added. If enough of a certain symbol type has been accumulated during the collect stage, it is possible to see a full screen during this feature.

Feature Bet

The Feature Bet button allows players to purchase a set number of Morphing Symbols, which will be added to the screen before the initial spin. The more of these symbols that are on the grid, the more likely it is that higher value features will be reached along the progress bar due to the increased chance of symbol wins. There are five options available, as listed below:

  • Adds 6 Morphing Symbols: Cost of 3.5x
  • Adds 12 Morphing Symbols: Cost of 10.8x
  • Adds 23 Morphing Symbols: Cost of 46x
  • Adds 34 Morphing Symbols: Cost of 105x
  • Adds 45 Morphing Symbols: Cost of 221.7x

Pros

  • Stunning graphics and design.
  • High quality, immersive gameplay.
  • It is packed full of innovative, engaging features.

Cons

  • Initially, quite a complicated game to understand.

Tarsque Slot Review Final Thoughts

I was pleased to see a Print Studios release pop up on my review list, and I’m thrilled to say that they have smashed it out of the park with Tarasque. This is the best game they’ve made so far, in my view. The graphics and design are beautiful, and you’ll struggle to find many other slot games that live up to its visual standards. The gameplay is initially quite difficult to fully appreciate as there is so much to take in, but once you understand how things work, then it is an extremely engaging slot which provides layers of entertainment through its multitude of innovative features. The potential of a huge hit is also there with its top end of 20,000x, and you can realistically see the prospect of landing a full screen of symbols thanks to the Devour and Unleash feature, for which the rewards are great. It's a top release.
