The foul-mouthed teddy bear TED first appeared on movie screens way back in 2012. During the decade that followed, the juxtaposition of a cute and cuddly bear swearing, drinking alcohol, and gambling has proved an undeniable hit with people of all ages… well, those who are old enough to be watching him, obviously. Ahem. Blueprint’s new TED Cash Lock game is just the latest in a long line of slots featuring the swear bear, but you’ll need to look closely to spot the differences between this and the previous games. The RTP of just 93.09% is very low by online slot standards, whilst the 50,000x bet top win stated on the paytable seems laughably unrealistic. The only statistic that didn’t have me rolling my eyes was the 20 fixed paylines. Let’s hope there is some good news to follow.
You’ll need to hit six of the TED scatters to trigger the main free spin bonus round, but these do appear much more frequently than the scatters in most other slots. The free spins are enhanced by a new border feature which surrounds every position where a TED symbol has landed during the bonus, with a cash prize awarded for every border that is visible once the feature completes. A separate “Thunder Buddies” scatter triggers the bonus wheel, where three free spin modes await you. Some of these features are great fun, but it’s still difficult for me to get past the extremely low RTP.

Ted Cash Lock Slot Theme, Stakes, Pays & Symbols
Being only suitable for adults, TED is clearly the perfect bear to feature in an online slot machine. It seems like he’s been taking a break recently, as it feels like forever since we saw the original TED Slot and then the updated TED Megaways from Blueprint Gaming. It’s been so long, in fact, that I couldn’t immediately find him in our library of slot reviews. The dastardly bear could easily be hiding somewhere, which would be just like him, wouldn’t it! I can’t help but wonder if Blueprint was hoping that we wouldn’t notice they had re-used the symbols from TED’s older games when creating Cash Lock – everything is visually identical to the first TED slot released nearly a decade ago. It does feel a little bit lazy, but it could also be argued that if it still looks good, why fix it?
The highest-paying symbol is the wild, with a return of 25x your bet for a full payline of five-of-a-kind. The TED logo is next and offers 20x for all five symbols, followed by film favourite Lori – the pretty lady, to keep it simple – who pays 15x for a complete payline. The duck will pay you 10x your stake for five-of-a-kind, and the final high-paying symbol is the six-pack of soda with a payout of 7.5x for all five symbols. The ever familiar royal symbols represent the low value symbols, with the ace and king both paying 4x for a full payline, whilst the Q and J will award 2x bet for a six of a kind win.
Blueprint is quite unpredictable when setting the betting range available in their games. This time, the minimum and maximum bets have been set at €0.10 and €100.00 per spin, respectively, although the upper limit may be lower at some casinos. Either way, there will be a stake size between the lower and upper limit to match your bankroll.
Base Game & Modifiers
The base game of TED utilises an expanded playfield with five reels of four rows each. All symbols require at least three matching symbols on one of the 20 fixed paylines to award a win, with this also needing to begin from the leftmost reel first.
Bonus Boost
At the start of any base game spin, TED may decide to give you a boost by adding several additional scatters to the reels. TED can choose to add the rainbow scatters used to trigger the normal free spins, or the Thunder Buddies scatter, which activates the bonus wheel feature.
Losing Spin Modifier
After any non-winning spin, TED may step in and re-arrange the symbols in view to form a winning combination.
Thunder Bonus Bet
If you are willing to pay a 25% premium on top of the normal cost per spin, the game will double the number of scatter symbols appearing on the reels, doubling your odds of hitting a bonus round.
The RTP of the game remains the same regardless of whether this feature is enabled, so I’d recommend playing with it on if you wish to play more bonus rounds.
Ted Cash Lock Slot Bonus Features
Hitting six of the TED scatter symbols will award you six free spins in the normal bonus round, whilst three Thunder Buddies scatters will take you to the bonus wheel, where three other free spin modes are available.
Free Spins
The regular free spins feature typically begins with six spins. However, if you trigger the bonus with more than six scatter symbols, one additional spin will be awarded for every extra scatter.
Every time a TED symbol lands in this mode, a bronze border will be added around the position where he was. If that position already has a bronze border, it will be upgraded to a silver border; if it is already silver, it will upgrade to gold. If TED appears in a position which already has a gold border, he will move himself to a different position instead.
At the end of the feature, the game will pay you a cash prize for every position with a special border. The biggest prizes are reserved for spots with a gold border, but unfortunately, the paytable doesn’t give much insight into exactly what prizes you can expect from each colour.
Bonus Wheel Feature
The bonus wheel is triggered by hitting three Thunder Buddies scatter symbols and contains segments for three special free spin modes with extra features that are not available during the regular free spins.
- Colossal Spins: Giant TED symbols make it much easier to add a border to a large number of positions.
- Lazer Gun Spins: TED will fire his lazer gun at the reels several times before the free spins begin, adding lots of borders to random positions before you even start to play.
- Super High Spins: All three positions where the triggering scatter symbols appeared will have a golden border added to them at the start of the bonus round.
The free spin modes will then play out identically to the regular free spins, with a cash prize awarded for every position with a coloured border after all spins have been played.
Bonus Buy
When you use the bonus buy facility in TED Cash Lock, the game will automatically take you to the bonus wheel rather than the normal free spin mode. This makes sense, as all three of the options on the wheel have some advantage over the regular free spins. The cost of 100x your bet feels like a reasonable price, and I made a profit several times while testing the game.
Ted Cash Lock Slot Review Final Thoughts
If I didn’t play this game for a year or so after today, I doubt I would be able to tell it apart from any of the earlier TED slots I have tried. That’s partially due to the identical graphics and symbol sets, but I also didn’t find any of the features to be especially exciting or unique either. Fans of the bear will love it though.
