Whilst the original release date is not specified, the look and feel of the game suggest that it could have been several years ago; the graphics, features, and overall mechanics all scream the early 2000s to me, but it’s a complete stab in the dark. There are ten pay lines and a 95% RTP, whilst the maximum win is only stated in cash terms at €250,000 – there is no indication in terms of multiple-of-stake other than the fact this would be 2,500x at max bet.
Features are a little thin on the ground, mainly just consisting of a typical free spin bonus round, although Scientific Games do have an Ace up their sleeve in this regard. After hitting the three Lotus scatter symbols on reels one, three, and five, you will be presented with three flower buds that conceal random symbols from the base game reel set. Whatever symbols you reveal from these buds will then be used to fill the reels of your bonus round, with all other symbols being removed. Those are some tough aspirations for any plant to live up to – in fact, many people could even struggle to meet such criteria! The reason for the Lotus flower’s unusually powerful reputation stems from the fact that it will continue growing after it spouts from the mud, always pointing towards light and warmth. I like the style used by Scientific Games for their paytables, as all the information is presented on a single page, making it easy to get a handle on the range of winning possibilities their games offer. Better still, the wins are given as multiples of the current line bet – not quite as good as multiples of the full stake, but with just ten pay lines, all you need to do is divide by ten. Stake selection is performed by changing the current line bet, starting at a penny a line for a total of €0.10 per spin at the low end and maxing out at a frankly crazy €50.00 per line at the top – this equates to an overall wager of €500.00 for each round. However, I doubt this can be accurate for those playing in Euros.
Base Game & Modifiers
Spinning the reels of the Thai Flower online slot somehow makes me feel like I have stumbled into a time machine, as it plays just like the oldest online slots that I remember trying almost two decades ago! It’s a standard 5×3 reel set, and the left, and right sides of the screen are filled with coloured squares indicating the start and end points of each of the ten fixed paylines.
There are few surprises in this mode – no modifiers, no secondary bonus features, and no extras of any kind. Scientific Games have saved all the RTP not allocated to regular line hits for the solitary free spins bonus round, so let’s look at that now.
Thai Flower Slot Bonus Features
The scatter symbol is represented by the lotus flower and also acts as the wild symbol in the Thai Flower slot game. This is something of a double-edged sword; on the one hand, one symbol that is both the scatter and the wild is often a great thing for the player, but this game only features scatter symbols on reels one, three, and five, meaning there is no way to hit a full line of wild symbols. It’s certainly not all bad, as when you hit all three scatters simultaneously, you will be rewarded with 12 free spins.
Free Spins Feature
When the free spins feature is triggered, you will be presented with three symbols – it almost looks like you are being asked to choose one out of the three, but that is not the case. Choose a symbol, and it will transform into one of the regular symbols from the paytable; then repeat the process twice to find out which three symbols will appear during your bonus round.
You may end up with three low-paying royals, or you could end up with three high-paying picture symbols. You may even end up with a mixture of both. However things work out, those three symbols are the only ones you will see for the next 12 spins.
Unfortunately, this means that you cannot retrigger the bonus round, but if you get lucky and pick three high-paying symbols, you stand a good chance of catching one or two five-of-a-kind combinations during the feature. It would have been nice if a multiplier or other payout-boosting change had been bolted onto this part of the game, but I guess you can’t have everything!
Thai Flower Slot Review Final Thoughts
I’m not much of a fan of true “classic” slots, but Thai Flower is a retro-style machine that keeps things simple without sacrificing fun or playability. Ten-line games have much more scope to offer more significant base game wins than those with 20 or more pay lines, and I suspect there are plenty of high-volatility slots lovers who will get a real kick out of Thai Flower.
