The Bounty Slot Theme, Stakes, Pays & Symbols
The Wild West has been the basis for many online slots during the past decades, the most obvious example being the Dead or Alive games from NetEnt. Since the release of that game, there have been countless attempts to dethrone it as the king of Wild West online slots, but the only game that successfully managed to achieve this was NetEnt’s own sequel – Dead or Alive 2. Any developer creating a Wild West-themed online slot cannot avoid their game being compared to those previous, hugely popular examples, which means that it is a brave decision on the part of any software house to release a game such as this one. I’m pleased to see that Snowborn has not completely copied off the look and feel of Dead or Alive; the developer has instead used a photo-realistic look to try and differentiate their game.
How about the paytable, then? The sheriff’s star acts as the game’s wild symbol and has a return of 100x the current bet for a full pay line of five-of-a-kind, matching the value of the highest-paying regular symbol. A male outlaw is pictured as that top symbol, whilst a female outlaw takes the second-placed spot with a return of 40x for all five of her symbols. An older gentleman is next, paying 20x the bet for a five-of-a-kind combination, followed by another dodgy looking guy who is busy chomping on a cigar – 10x your current bet for all five of his symbols. There are four lower-paying royal symbols, represented by a sharp-looking set of playing cards, all four of which will pay you 4x the current bet for a completed pay line.
The minimum bet of €0.15 per round should suit players with smaller bankrolls, while the maximum of €45.00 is also likely sufficient for high rollers trying this game. For everybody else, there are plenty of intervals between these two extremes!
Base Game & Modifiers
The regular gameplay of The Bounty utilises a regular 5×3 playfield, whilst the 15 fixed paylines give the developers plenty of scope to include some big wins on their paytable. As we have previously seen, however, the most significant wins available in the base game are line hits of just 100x your stake – all the game’s bigger wins will require you to hit a bonus round or jackpot feature. On that note, let’s move straight onto those.
The Bounty Slot Bonus Features
There are two main bonus rounds in The Bounty; first is the bounty jackpot bonus game which is triggered by landing the entire stacked bounty symbol that appears on the fifth reel only. Secondly, we have a free spin round which requires you to land all three available scatters on reels three, four, and five. We’ll examine each of these features in turn:
Bounty Jackpot Feature
The bounty jackpot feature does not guarantee you will win a jackpot, sadly, although my experience suggests that you are likely to at least grab yourself a MINI jackpot each time you trigger this feature.
The MINI jackpot is worth 5x your bet, followed by the MINOR at 7x, the MAXI at 18x, the MAJOR at 100x, and the GRAND at 1,250x. If you manage to catch one or more of the alternate golden jackpot symbols during your feature, these numbers can potentially be multiplied by 2x or 4x, resulting in a maximum jackpot prize of 5,000x the current bet
Ambush Free Spins Feature
The ambush symbol appears on reels three, four, and five only, and you need to catch all three of them to trigger these separate free spins. You’ll start the bonus with eight free spins at a 2x multiplier, but several new symbols are also added to the reels, which can help you boost the profitability of your bonus round:
- Bullet – This symbol will add one more free spin to your remaining counter.
- Dynamite – Each dynamite symbol that lands will increase your current multiplier for the remainder of your bonus round.
- 2x Wild – This symbol substitutes for all other symbols except bonus symbols and doubles the value of any winning combination that crosses its path.
- Wild – A regular wild symbol that does not benefit from the 2x multiplier but does have a payout of up to 100x the bet when all five appear on a pay line.
The Bounty Slot Review Final Thoughts
If NetEnt had never created their Dead or Alive games, I suspect many of us would look at these recent attempts at Wild West-themed slots a little differently. Being objective on the matter, this is a fun game with a decent feature set and plenty of big win potential; is it as good as Dead or Alive? Absolutely not, but it is an enjoyable game that deserves you to give it a few spins.
