The Dog House (Pragmatic Play) Slot Demo & Review

The phrase “you are in the doghouse” is an idiom typically used to say that somebody is in trouble for something. Don’t worry though, as you shouldn’t end up getting into any trouble for spinning Pragmatic Play’s great-looking new slot machine, “The Dog House”! Just remember not to spend more than you can afford, or you may end up in the doghouse with your other half; wait, what was I just saying? Before I tie myself up in any more knots, let me now tell you about the vital statistics for this great looking new game! The Dog House is a high volatility slot featuring 20 fixed paylines, a 96.51% RTP, and a top prize of 6,750x your bet.

The paytable holds four high-paying symbols, each represented by a cute little pup, whilst a literal doghouse represents the wild symbol. Scatters appear on reels one, three, and five, and landing all three will trigger the free spin bonus round with sticky wild symbols. Surprisingly, that’s our lot as far as the features are concerned. Pragmatic Play usually adds a little more than this to their slots, so it will be interesting to find out if this is enough to keep the game from getting monotonous during testing.

Once your own four-legged best friend is back in his doghouse for the day, why not relax and enjoy a few spins on our free demo slot of The Dog House? It’s available to play below.

The Dog House Slot Theme, Stakes, Pays & Symbols

The Dog House Slot Paytable
The Dog House slot paytable

Dogs and animals, in general, are a safe bet for an online slot theme, as there can’t be many of us who don’t have a great deal of admiration for the world’s amazing and diverse catalogue of creatures. Cats and dogs have a special place in most people’s hearts, as they tend to be our favourite animals to keep as pets. For that reason, any slot with a dog-based theme is sure to be popular with a huge number of both men and women alike. Developers know this, of course – Doggy Riches Megaways, Disco Dawgs, and Phat Cats Megaways are just a few recent examples of this rapidly expanding genre. So, how does The Dog House compare to these existing titles?

To find out, let’s start by examining the all-important paytable. The blue dog is the top dog on this occasion – no wonder he looks so happy with himself! He’s worth 37.5x your bet for a full payline of five of a kind, which is a fair bit more than the second-place pink dog (complete with a bow in her hair – awwwww!), who is worth just 25x your bet for all five symbols. The yellow dog will pay you 15x for a complete payline, whilst our little friend on a green-ish background takes the last high-paying spot with his return of 10x the bet for five of a kind. A collar and a bone represent two “medium-pay” symbols, which have payouts of 6x or 4x the total stake, respectively, for a complete payline. As for those pesky low-paying symbols, the Ace and King are each worth 2.5x for a full payline, whilst the Queen, Jack, and Ten will only add 1.25x your bet to your balance. This is a reasonable spread of prizes, but nothing here immediately grabs your attention.

As usual, Pragmatic Play has included a wide betting range with plenty of intermediate bets to ensure that all players are well catered for. Low rollers will be happy to see a minimum wager of €0.20 per spin, whilst those with bigger bankrolls can choose to bet up to €100.00 per round if they wish to.

Base Game & Modifiers

The Dog House Slot Base Game
The Dog House slot base game

The Dog House uses a standard five reel, three row reel set in both the base game and bonus round. You may catch a glimpse of a smaller 3×3 playfield after triggering a bonus round, but this is only used to determine the number of free spins awarded. There are 20 fixed paylines, which is a frequent setup for games that use a playfield of this size, and all wins require at least three matching symbols on a pay line starting from the left.

There are no base game modifiers to speak of, unfortunately, but the wild symbol does come with a randomly determined multiplier of either 3x or 2x. If more than one wild symbol forms part of a winning payline, the product of all multipliers will be used to determine the overall multiplier applied to your win.

The Dog House Slot Bonus Features

Bonus scatter symbols appear on the first, third, and fifth reels only, and you will need to catch all three of them to win yourself some free spins. The number of free spins awarded is determined randomly at the start of each bonus round via a 3×3 grid filled with numbers.

Each box can contain a number between one and three, potentially resulting in a minimum/maximum of 9 or 27 free spins, respectively.

Free Spins

There’s only one bonus round to look forward to in The Dog House, making it extremely important that Pragmatic Play makes it a good one! Fortunately, the developer has not let us down, and these free spins are enhanced by a sticky wilds feature that can produce some fantastic wins.

Every wild that lands on the reels whilst the feature is in play will become sticky for the remainder of the bonus round. These wilds have the same 2x or 3x multipliers as the base game, and it’s possible to fill the entirety of reels two, three, and four with these sticky symbols if you have a lucky feature.

Unfortunately, there’s no opportunity to re-trigger the feature, but this does mean that it’s possible to hit the maximum jackpot of 6,750x your bet without needing any re-triggers.

The Dog House Slot Review Final Thoughts

You can’t fault the presentation of this game – everything is beautifully drawn, and the theme is sure to appeal to a huge number of players. It would have been nice to see a couple of base game modifiers to spice up the action a little, but the bonus round is exciting enough to ensure that you will keep coming back to this one over and over again.
