The Grand ShowThe Grand ShowSlot Demo & Review

I’ve never understood the clamour for parents to bring their kids to the circus. Surely, there’s as much chance of the child being scared out of its wits as having a good time. Sure, there are the acrobats, stunts, juggling, and all the other relatively tame stuff, but then there are wild animals, clowns, people getting fired from cannons, knife-throwing, and other acts that I’d imagine some kids wouldn’t like. Still, I don’t mind the circus myself, though it’s been a few years since I’ve been to one. All the better then, that Push Gaming’s latest slot is themed on the grandest circus of all, as I can chill out and enjoy the show while hopefully winning a pretty penny. The Grand Show is a 5×4 slot with 20 paylines, a medium variance, a 96.28% RTP, and a 10,000x max win.

So what acts can we look forward to in The Grand Show? Well, as it’s a Push Gaming slot, quite a few. The slot features a money collect mechanic across all modes that can deliver instant prizes of up to 500x or jackpots of up to 10,000x. There are also two different bonus games. The first is a relatively standard free spins bonus, but the second is a bonus game that takes place on a 5×8 grid with multipliers, modifiers, and more. You can also use a buy bonus to trigger either of those bonus games.

The Grand Show Slot Theme, Stakes, Pays & Symbols

The Grand Show Slot Paytable
The Grand Show slot paytable

With the lure of the lights and impressive death-defying acts, it’s a bit of a shock that the circus theme hasn’t been used more by game developers over the years. There are a few slots worthy of a mention in this category, though, and if you wish to explore them further, I’d suggest heading over to Skywind’s Big Top Bonanza Megaways and then trying out Play’n Go’s 3 Clown Monty and its sequel 3 Clown Monty 2.

It’s time to turn our attention to the paytable on The Grand Show, next where the Wild Symbol and the Master of Ceremonies share the top spot in terms of payouts, with both symbols returning 50x the stake for five in a row. The Clown is the best of the rest, with 20x up for grabs, while the Hotdog and Popcorn pay up to 8x and 6x, respectively. The Ace and King are at the top of the pile with regard to the lower value symbols worth up to 2x the stake, and the Queen and Jack deliver max returns of 1x for a five symbol combination.

Finally, we end with the staking options on The Grand Show, which start from a budget-friendly minimum of €0.05 to a maximum of €100.00. There’s a great selection of bets to choose from within this range, so whether your bankroll is bursting at the seams or on life support, there will be a suitable stake to pick from.

The Grand Show Slot Base Game & Modifiers

The Grand Show Slot Base Game
The Grand Show slot base game

The Grand Show utilises a 5×4 reel formation that contains 20 fixed paylines. Winning combinations are created as and when three or more matching symbols form a line across a payline starting from the leftmost reel. The two exceptions to that rule are the Wild and the Master of Ceremonies, which require just two or more symbols.

Instant Prizes & Jackpots

Instant Prize Symbols can appear on the reels holding values of between 1x and 500x the stake, while the Mini (10x), Minor (50x), Major (250x), Mega (1,000x), and Grand (10,000x) jackpot symbols can also land on the reels. If Top Hat Symbols land on the first and fifth reels, they will collect the Instant Prizes and Jackpots on consecutive reels moving right and left, respectively.

The Grand Show Slot Bonus Features

The Grand Show Slot Bonus Feature
The Grand Show slot bonus feature

There are two bonus games on The Grand Show slot, one of which is a free spins bonus and the other a slightly more interesting bonus feature. Let’s get stuck in and see what each of them can do.

Free Spins Feature

When 3, 4, or 5 scatter symbols land anywhere in view, respectively, you’ll receive:

  • Three Scatters: 10 Free Spins
  • Four Scatters: 10 Free Spins with prize symbols holding a minimum value of 5x
  • Five Scatters: 10 Free Spins with prize symbols holding a minimum value of 10x

The free spins bonus isn’t much different from the base game aside from those minimum cash values, should you land enough scatters. You can, however, trigger 3, 4, or 5 additional spins for 3, 4, or 5 scatters, respectively.

The Grand Show Bonus Round

If the Top Hat Symbol lands on the first and fifth reels on the same spin, the slot’s bonus feature triggers. Any Cash Prizes or Jackpots on the reels at the time carry over and are present on the reels at the start of the bonus.

You receive 6 spins on a new 5×8 reel configuration, but only the 5 lowest positions on the reels will spin each time. On the right-hand side of the playing grid is a stack of multipliers that increase the higher the row through 1x, 2x, 3x, 4x, 6x, 8x, and 10x as standard. Those multipliers will apply to any prizes won from the rows.

Across the bottom of the first four reels is where Instant Prizes, Jackpots, and Nudge Up symbols can appear as a result of a spin. The Prizes and Scatters move up one position on each spin, and if they collide with other symbols, both values are combined into one. As for the Nudge Ups, these do what they say on the tin by nudging the prizes on the above row up one position. If all all four positions on the top row eventually get filled with symbols, you win the Grand Jackpot worth 10,000x the stake.

Furthermore, symbols will land on the bottom row of the fifth reel, and these can be:

  • Nudge All: Moves all prizes on the reels up a position.
  • Boost: increases all the multiplier values on the multiplier reel.
  • Re-Trigger: Gives an additional 1, 2, or 3 free spins.

If you run out of spins before the top row is filled with symbols, you’ll win the cash and jackpot symbols currently on the reels. Their values are multiplied by the row multiplier before they’re paid.

Bonus Buy

It’s no shock to discover Push Gaming has once again provided a variety of buy bonus options to consider:

  • 3 Scatter Symbols cost 46.4x the current bet.
  • 4 Scatter Symbols cost 86.6x.
  • 5 Scatter Symbols cost 147x.
  • Random Free Spins cost 75x.
  • The Super Bonus with minimum Instant Cash Prizes of 10x costs 450x.

Pros

  • An enjoyable blend of multipliers, jackpots, cash prizes, and bonus games.

Cons

  • Not of the high standards of other Push Gaming titles.

The Grand Show Slot Review Final Thoughts

With consistently high quality comes an expectation from players, and this is the position in which Push Gaming finds itself most of the time. If the latest releases do not live up to blockbusters, such as Jammin’ Jars, Big Bamboo, or Razor Returns, fans are left disappointed - even if those releases are pretty decent slots in their own right. The Grand Show is another that may disappoint the Push Gaming fanatics, but for the casual player, will prove an enjoyable slot to play.
