Game Overview
I believe this is the first release from new developer Blue Guru Games – new online slot developers are ten-a-penny these days it seems, so how do these guys stack up? First impressions are good, nice looking intro graphics are followed up by a very pretty animated backdrop that makes lovely use of parallax. There is also some impressive attention to detail such as leaves falling from the trees on either side of the reels. It’s a 40-pay line slot with an RTP of 96.01% and a maximum win of 28,266x bet calculated by means of a billion simulated rounds.
A standard free spins bonus round is included, with an added twist in that the longer it takes for three scatters to drop at the same time, the better your bonus round may turn out to be – each scatter that lands which does not trigger a feature will increase a counter which awards a multiplier to the feature if it hits a pre-determined value.

The Nemean Lion Slot Theme, Stakes, Pays & Symbols
I’ll admit it – I had absolutely no idea what the word “Nemean” meant and had to search for it whilst trying to work out exactly what the theme of the Nemean Lion slot game was all about. Well, Nemean is defined as “designating one of the national festivals of ancient Greece, held at Nemea, in the second and fourth years of each Olympiad”. This didn’t entirely clear things up for me, I must say – though who knows, perhaps lions competed in the Olympics back then? We do know the Romans and Greeks loved a spectacle, after all. I can just imagine all the 100m sprinters being eaten by lions as the crowds at the colosseum went crazy, can’t you?
So, assuming you made it this far without being eaten by a lion – how’s about that paytable? The scatter appears only on reels two, three, and four, and hitting all three will reward you with 5x your bet as well as the bonus round. The wild and lion symbols pay the most with 50x your bet for five-of-a-kind, followed by the man with a club who returns 25x for all five. Next is the pretty brunette – if you thought the guy with the club didn’t stand much of a chance against a lion, I’m not sure how she’s going to fare, but hey, 12.5x your stake for a five-of-a-kind. The wizard looking guy with a cane also pays 12.5x your stake for five-of-a-kind, although his three and four of a kind pay outs are lower than the pretty lady’s. And hey, maybe I’m onto something with all this lion eating people stuff… the final two picture symbols are a club and a pearl necklace! These must be the bits the lion didn’t want to eat, I reckon – 5x your stake for a full line of either of those.
Stakes are selected using a single bet selector located directly below the reels, with the minimum bet being set at €0.20 and the maximum at a chunky €200.00 per spin. This should be more than enough for any player, and thankfully there’s also no max bet button to accidentally hit and wipe out your entire balance in a single spin
Base Game & Modifiers
The Nemean Lion video slot utilises a 5×5 playfield – an unusual shape, especially for a game with 40 fixed pay lines. All of the symbols are stacked on all reels including the wilds, however, so the setup seems to work pretty well in my experience. In fact, I hit a fairly ridiculous 680x win within my first ten spins – which just goes to show that the base game is more than capable of some substantial hits.
Scatter Collection Feature
The centre three reels which contain scatter symbols each have a collection meter located above them which increments by one each time a scatter appears which does not form part of a bonus-triggering combination. The three reels all start with a 2x multiplier which will become active during the bonus round, but for every 50 scatter symbols which land on an individual reel between features, the multiplier will be increased by one.
In my experience, it didn’t take an enormous length of time to trigger the bonus round so I only saw a couple of reels go up to 3x twice and never any higher than this. That’s probably a good thing – nobody likes going hundreds of spins without a feature, after all. At the same time, how many other slots give you any kind of compensation when those dry spells inevitably happen? In my opinion, this makes this a great little feature to have.
The Nemean Lion Slot Free Spin Feature
When you do hit all three scatter symbols on a single spin your counters will not be increased, which could be infuriating if you currently have 49 out of 50 scatters built up on any of them as all counters are reset at the end of the bonus round. Fortunately, this isn’t likely to happen often!
The free spin bonus round then awards 12 free games with the exact reel positions where the triggering scatter symbols landed being transformed into multiplier positions. Any combination which passes through these spaces will be multiplied by the amount shown on the multiplier position.
Any further scatters which land during the bonus round will add additional multiplier positions to the reels, whereas a scatter landing on an existing multiplier position will immediately increase the value of the multiplier at that position. Combinations which span more than one multiplier position will be me multiplied together to form the final win amount.
The Nemean Lion Slot Review Final Thoughts
There’s some really unique and fresh ideas here – it’s a great start for a new developer. If I had to be critical of anything in the game, the actual symbols could perhaps be drawn a little better, but it’s a minor niggle and the quality of the background art shows that these guys certainly have the talent to make it happen.
I’m looking forward to seeing what Blue Guru comes up with next!
