Phantom Of The Opera Slot Theme, Stakes, Pays & Symbols
The author of The Phantom of the Opera, Gaston Leroux, had initially intended to be a lawyer, but he was lucky enough to receive a large inheritance whilst he was young, which enabled him to spend his time writing and gambling instead of studying. He worked as a courtroom reporter at the same time and became nearly obsessed with crime and criminal behaviour; this fascination led Leroux to study the works of Edgar Allan Poe, Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, and other detective mystery writers of his time, and he eventually wrote and published his first novel in 1907. He would publish “Le Fantome de l’Opera” only four years later, and I guess, as they would say, the rest is history.
Moving on to the paytable, I feel as if I should know the name of the male character who takes pride of place as the highest-paying symbol. I had to refer to Wikipedia to find the name Joseph Buquet, a stagehand who was found hanged in the Paris Opera House. It’s certainly not the best introduction for a character, but nevertheless, he will reward you with 25x your stake for a full pay line of five-of-a-kind in this game. The phantom is next, paying 15x the bet for all five, whilst the candlesticks will pay you 10.5x your bet, and the single rose is worth 7.5x for a completed pay line. There are just four royal symbols in addition to these four high-paying symbols, but as all symbols appear in stacks, it doesn’t seem to matter that there isn’t a lot of variety to them.
You can choose to bet anywhere between €0.10 per round up to a maximum of €20.00, and there are plenty of intervals between these two extremes that should cater for almost every kind of player.
Base Game & Modifiers
The regular play takes place on a standard 5×3 playfield, and the 25 fixed paylines are more than enough for a grid of this size. Regular wins are awarded for hitting three or more matching symbols on adjacent reels from left to right, whilst scatter and “link and win” prizes are awarded for symbols landing in any position.
Win Booster
If you don’t mind spending a lot more for each spin, then you can activate the win booster mode, which increases the game RTP and also adds many more “Link and Win” symbols to the reels. Activating the option gives you a far higher chance of triggering the link and win feature, but for 2.5x the regular bet, this advantage comes at a steep price. I couldn’t decide if I thought this option was worth it in the end, but it does increase the RTP, so I guess the math suggests the price is fair.

There are two main bonus rounds in The Phantom of the Opera – the link and win symbol is a theatre mask, and hitting six or more of these will award either a cash prize or a jackpot, as described below. The free spins feature is triggered by hitting three scatter symbols and uses a special reel set, including a jumbo block.
Link & Win Feature
When six or more link and win symbols land on the screen, this feature is triggered, and three respins will be added to your remaining counter. All the triggering symbols will become sticky and lock in place, and any further symbols that land during your re-spins will also become sticky and reset your remaining counter to three.
The feature will continue until you either run out of re-spins or go three spins without landing any additional bonus symbols. If you hit enough symbols to win a jackpot, you can potentially win 50x, 150x, or 750x your bet for the lower tiers and 5,000x your bet for the maximum MEGA jackpot.
Free Spins Feature
When the free spins feature is triggered, you will receive ten free spins on a special reel set where the middle three reels are combined to form a 3×3 jumbo symbol block. This is a great looking slot with some big hits on the paytable. There isn’t anything ground-breaking here, but it really doesn’t matter when a game plays and pays as well as this. It will probably not become the timeless classic that the original novel has, but this slot will undoubtedly keep you entertained for several fun nights of slotting!
