The Rodfather Megaways Slot Theme, Stakes, Pays & Symbols
I never imagined fishing would be such a hit with online slot players, but the endless stream of games based around this theme suggests that developers are seeing amazing results from creating these games. The Big Bass Bonanza franchise by Pragmatic Play feels as if it is never-ending at this point; when I reviewed Big Bass Bonanza: Keeping it Reel a couple of weeks ago, I genuinely could not remember how many previous games I had played in that series. How about Wild Fishin’ Wild Ways? Or Boat Bonanza? In my opinion, Sega Bass Fishing has a lot to answer for, as I never saw any kind of game product based around fishing until that arcade machine appeared on the scene!
So how on earth can this game award a jackpot of over 34,000x your bet? Let’s start by investigating the paytable, which is topped by a freaky-looking octopus which pays 5x your bet for a full payway of six-of-a-kind. Then there is a needle-nosed dolphin, paying 3x your bet for all six of its symbols, followed by what appears to be an enormous bass at 2x for a full payway. The last of the high-paying symbols is a sea horse, with a return of 1x for a full payway of six symbols. These aren’t particularly impressive returns, but let’s face it, they were never going to be all that impressive, considering this game consists of mainly stacked symbols and over 200,000 pay ways. To reach the big money, you’ll need to make your way to the bonus round, win plenty of times to build up your multiplier, and then score a huge number of matching symbols on all six reels. No problem then, right!
Wagering options in the demo slot seem incredibly limited; the minimum permitted bet is €0.20, which is fairly normal; however, the maximum bet per spin of just €4.00 seems prohibitively low, so I’m unsure whether the real money version of the game will have the same limitation or not.
Base Game & Modifiers
The base game looks similar to many other Megaways games, but there is one subtle difference in that all six reels can divide into seven sections in addition to the horizontal row included above reels two through five. This seemingly small change is the reason for the increase in Megaways from 117,649 to 200,704.
Any time you hit a winning combination in The Rodfather Megaways, the symbols which form the payway will be immediately removed from the screen. This cascading wins feature means that you can win several times from a single paid spin and is particularly important during the bonus round. Note that if your win includes any symbols from the horizontal row at the top of the screen, the new symbols which are added to that part of the reel set will be added horizontally from the right rather than vertically from the top.
Mystery Symbols
Mystery symbols are a common feature in Megaways slots but only appear during the bonus round when playing this game. All mystery symbols will transform into an identical symbol at the end of the current spin, which can sometimes result in an impressive win.
Fishin’ Time
Whilst the mystery symbol feature is only active during this game’s bonus round, the Fishin’ Time feature can be triggered during the base game in The Rodfather. This is in contrast to the way these features work in the Fishin’ Frenzy games, where the equivalent to the Fishin’ Time feature is only active during the bonus round.
The “Fishin’ Time” feature refers to any spin that includes cash or value symbols on reels one through six and a collect symbol on reel six. The collect symbol appears as a fisherman in a yellow coat, and he will reel in any cash symbols currently visible on the reel set.
The cash symbols can potentially be worth 1x, 2x, 3x, 5x, 10x, 20x, or 50x the current total bet amount, so if you happen to hit lots of these on a single spin in addition to a collect symbol on the sixth reel, this feature can result in some fantastic prizes.

The Fishin’ Time feature of this game can be very generous and profitable, but it still pales compared to the main bonus round. You’ll need to hit at least four scatter symbols to trigger the bonus round – no bonus buy facility is included – and this will reward you with ten free spins.

Fans of Megaways slots are sure to love this one, but please, can we stop it with the fishing-themed games now? The novelty wore off a long time ago!
