Game Overview

Film director Guy Richie set the gangster genre alight with his iconic movies Snatch, and Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels. These are still two of the greatest films to have ever come out of the UK, and it would seem slot developer Blueprint Gaming also fancies its chances at muscling in on the action as they are set to introduce us to its London gangster-themed slot, The Stash. This 5-reel video slot features 576 paylines, an RTP of 95.95%, and a maximum win of 10,000x bet.

Feature-wise, the game includes Getaway Wilds, which are full-height stacked symbols which can only land on reels two, three, and four. There are three bonus games to aspire to, although you could opt to purchase them if you aren’t the sort to be ‘aspiring’ to win free spins naturally! A bonus bet facility is available if you want to boost your chances of triggering the free spins without paying the full price to buy it.

Ready to hit the streets of London and start bringing in the protection money? Okay, maybe that’s a bit of a stretch, but you can at least pretend to be a gangster in our free demo slot of The Stash, available to play below.

Does the setup of this game look familiar? Then go check out Deadwood from Nolimit City, and you’ll see what I mean, although Nolimit’s game is predictably a little darker than what Blueprint has come up with here. I actually like both of them quite a lot, to be honest, and there is a decent contrast between the layout and nudging wild mechanic used in this game and Deadwood. My favourite aspect of The Stash’s presentation is the vocal samples, though – it’s fantastically cheesy in the best possible way!

Ah, but how does it pay? Well, the five high-paying character symbols all look like pretty tough guys to me, the most valuable of which is worth 3.75x the total bet for a full payway of five of a kind. His sharply dressed compatriot will earn you 3x your bet for all five of his symbols, whilst the blue guy drops down to 2.5x for a complete line of five. The campest looking of the bunch has a return of 2x for a complete pay way, and the final high-paying spot on the paytable goes to the guy brandishing his weapon, who will pay you 1.5x your bet for a five of a kind combination, equal to the return paid by a briefcase and pair of handcuffs… I bet he wouldn’t be pleased about that! Two medium pays featuring playing cards and a gun share equal payouts of 1x for all five symbols, whilst the three low-paying royals all have identical returns of 0.5x for a five-of-a-kind winning combination.

The common issue of limited wagering options again rears its ugly head in The Stash, I’m sorry to say. Low rollers should be okay with the ability to bet €0.20, €0.40, €0.60, €0.80, or €1.00 per spin, but beyond that, you’ve got just a couple of choices before hitting the maximum limit of €10.00 per spin.

Base Game & Modifiers

Many games that offer 576 payways achieve this by paying in both directions. However, the Stash instead uses a five-reel layout with three rows on reels one and five, combined with four rows on reels two, three, and four. This creates a total of 576, and all symbols require at least three matches on adjacent reels starting from the left to award a win.

Wild Symbols

Wild symbols can only appear on reels two, three, and four. However, when they land in view, there is a chance that they can nudge into a full reel position, with each nudge used increasing the multiplier value of the wild by x1.

Bonus Bet

Activating the bonus bet facility will increase the price per spin by 25% in return for increased odds of triggering one of the two free spin features.

The Stash Slot Bonus Features

There are two bonus rounds that can be activated on The Stash, and the interesting thing here is that they can be triggered individually or simultaneously.

Shoot & Spins Respins

The Shoot and Spins bonus is triggered by 3 or more money symbols landing in view on reels 2, 3, and 4. Three respins will be awarded with the feature played out on the centre reel set only. Each time a new symbol lands in view, the spin count will be reset to 3, whilst 3 losing spins in a row will cause the bonus to end. Keep a look out for character modifiers symbols that can hit too, which will help to increase your winnings drastically.

Free Spins

Landing a ‘Hit Scatter‘ symbol on reels 1 and 5 will trigger the free spins feature and award you 8 spins, to begin with. During this round, no money symbols will appear on reels 2, 3, and 4. Furthermore, any wilds that land in view and nudge to a full reel position will increase a global multiplier that will persist until the end of the bonus.

The Ultimate Heist Bonus

Land the hit scatters on reels 1 and 5, along with three money symbols on reels 2, 3, and 4 and the Ultimate Heist Bonus will be activated. The free spins will play out first, with any accrued multiplier carried over into the shoot and spins resin feature.

Bonus Buy

If you are in a jurisdiction where the bonus buy button is active, you can buy any of the above three features. Unfortunately, our demo of the game is not the bonus buy version, so we are unable to give you the exact costs of buying them.

Pros

  • Well designed slot.
  • Three features to trigger.

Cons

  • Bit of a clone in some ways of Nolimit's Deadwood.

Final Thoughts

There's certainly nothing wrong with The Stash, and it's definitely made me want to go and watch Lock Stock again, but I fail to see this being an absolute smash hit for Blueprint. It's just a bit too similar to Deadwood, in my opinion.
