Game Overview
Epic adventures of kings, knights and damsels in distress are always perfect fodder for game developers to theme their slots around, and if you chuck in the legend of the holy grail for good measure, then it’s sure to catch the imagination of slot players around the world. It worked once for provider Play’n Go in The Sword and the Grail slot release, and they are back with a sequel titled The Sword and the Grail Excalibur, a 5-reel game with 20 fixed paylines, an RTP of 96.20%, and a maximum win of 25,000x the bet.
Much of the original slot game is captured in its sequel, but some huge improvements have helped increase the win potential. However, first of all, we have a new addition to the game, the Kings Instant Prize, which awards a cash value each time it appears in view. The big talking point, though, is the free spins feature, triggered when three or more scatters appear in view. During this bonus, wilds remain sticky on the reels and can roam to a new position at the start of each new spin. This can be incredibly exciting if you collect enough scatters in the feature to reach the 100x multiplying wilds.
At this stage, it seems as though everyone on the planet has been searching for the grail and has come up empty-handed. Will you be the one to finally get your hands on it? Try your luck in our The Sword and the Grail Excalibur demo slot. It’s free to play below.
The Sword & The Grail Excalibur Slot Theme, Stakes, Pays & Symbols
Any stories or tales of the holy grail and my ears instantly prick up, meaning that obviously, my favourite Indiana Jones movie is where he goes in search of it, and I’m not ashamed to say I actually own a replica of his grail diaries. Now that you’re either thinking that’s a little bit sad or you’re wondering how you can get your hands on one, let’s find a couple of free play casino games with a similar theme for you to try out. Well, actually, in fairness, other than the original, it’s tough to find many examples, but one kind of related game is the Holy Hand Grenade slot from Print Studios, so be sure to try that out when you’re done with our The Sword and The Grail Excalibur slot review today.
The first place we’re going to focus on is the paytable, with the Wild Multiplying Grails taking the top spot with rewards of 1,500x, 150x, 75x, and 30x when five 100x, 10x, 5x, and 2x wilds land as a five of a kind win. As for the standard symbols, the highest payer is shared by the King and the Normal Wild, both with returns of 15x for a completed line of five. Next, we have the Princess worth 7.5x, with the Wizard and Knight completing the premium section with equal payouts of 5x. The classic royal symbols represent the lower pays, and you’ll find the Ace valued at 2x, the King and Queen both at 1.5x and finally, the Jack and Ten with rewards of 1x the bet for a winning combo of five.
Last of all, in this section, we end with the staking options, with players able to choose their bet with ease thanks to Play’n Go’s stake selection slider located at the bottom of the reels. There looks to be a good number of entry points here for punters of all sized budgets, with the minimum price to play starting at €0.20 and maxing out at €100.
The Sword & The Grail Excalibur Slot Base Game & Modifiers
The gameplay on The Sword and the Grail Excalibur uses a 5×3 reel configuration with 20 fixed paylines active on every spin. Matching three symbols on consecutive reels across a payline will award the corresponding win value from the paytable.
The Grail
The Grail symbol can land as a multiplier wild on any spin with a value of 2x, 5x, 10x or 100x. Any wins it is a part of will be multiplied by its value.
Instant Prizes
On any spin in the base game and bonus round, the Instant Prize symbols can land with a value of 1x, 2x, 3x, 5x, and 10x. If the sword multiplier is active at the top of the reels, its value will be applied to any prize symbols in view.
The Sword & The Grail Excalibur Slot Bonus Features
There is one main bonus round to be triggered on The Sword and the Grail Excalibur, which is the free spins featured triggered when three or more scatters land in the base game. Before the feature begins, you’ll be taken to the roundtable, which will determine how many spins you are awarded and how many steps headstart you get on the sword meter.
Free Spins Feature
During the free spins feature, any wilds that land will become sticky and move position at the start of the next spin. If more than one wild is present on the reels, they will move in one direction, but be aware this means that they can fall off the reels. Additionally, for every 5th scatter that lands, the multiplier values will be upgraded according to the sword meter, and three extra spins will be awarded.
Pros
- Bigger max win than the original game and better features.
- The instant prizes can help keep the base game ticking along.
Cons
- Multiple RTP models are available for operators to use.
- I'm not sure they can be called sticky wilds when they can fall off the reels.
The Sword & The Grail Excalibur Slot Review Final Thoughts
Play'n Go has several slots with mechanics similar to the original game in this series, so it's nice that PNG has made sufficient adjustments to this sequel to make it stand out from all other releases. The only downside I found to The Sword and the Grial Excalibur is that it's a little disappointing that the wilds are called sticky but don't always remain on the reels. But the flip side to that is when they do, it takes up extra spaces for you to land the scatters and work your way up the meter.Still, this is a much better slot game than its predecessor, and I highly recommend you give it a try.
