The Wildos Slot (Thunderkick) Slot Demo & Review

I sure hope you have room in your favourites list for another Wild West-themed online slot, as today we’ll be reviewing a new Thunderkick machine named ‘The Wildos’ – and it’s surely deserving of a spot on that list! There seems little doubt that the developer has been influenced by NetEnt’s Dead or Alive online slots here, as the game features the same sticky wild based free spins feature that has been such a smash hit amongst players of those games. The maximum jackpot of 6,250x the total bet is a little bit low by Dead or Alive standards, whilst the 15 paylines and 96.15% RTP are nothing more than average as well.

It would be fair of you to wonder: If two of the three vital statistics are merely average, why did I start this review on such a positive note? The answer, my friends, is that variance is not always your best buddy! Being able to win as much as 111,111x the total bet in Dead or Alive 2 is certainly an attractive feature, but those jackpots have to be paid for somehow. The Wildos offers a smaller maximum prize, but this will likely be paid out much more frequently thanks to the game’s multiplier wilds, sticky wild free spins, and re-triggers.

You don’t need to take my word for it that Thunderkick has created something special here – as always, we have a free demo slot of The Wildos available for you to try for yourself below.

The Wildos Slot Paytable
The Wildos slot paytable

The craze for Wild West-themed slots doesn’t look to be letting up any time soon, as we’ve surely reviewed at least two dozen similar games during the past year alone. Recent examples of the genre include Pragmatic Play’s Wild West Duels and Wild West Gold Megaways, along with Silverback’s Wilds of the West. Comparing these slots side-by-side, I would probably say that Thunderkick’s game is the best-looking of the bunch – provided you enjoy the heavily cartoon-like art style that includes thick black borders around the game’s background elements!

The most valuable symbols on the paytable are taken up by outlaw characters, with the red guy being the highest-paying of the bunch. He’ll award you 50x the total bet for a full payline of five of a kind, in contrast to the blue outlaw, who has a lower return of 40x for all five of his symbols. The green outlaw is worth less still at 30x for a complete payline, after which there is a sharp drop before we reach the medium-paying symbols: bottles of Tequila, a hat, and a cowboy boot, which will pay you 7x, 6x, or 5x the total bet respectively. Four more low pays are included, which feature playing card suits, and all of these share identical returns of 3x the total bet for a complete payline of five of a kind.

The betting range in The Wildos is reasonably comprehensive, with minimum/maximum available bets of €0.10 and €100.00, respectively. Unfortunately, there aren’t many intermediate bets available – some players could struggle to find a wager that will suit their bankroll.

Base Game & Modifiers

The Wildos Slot Base Game
The Wildos slot base game

The Wildos uses a typical video slot 5×3 playfield for its base game, spanned by 15 fixed paylines. This has allowed Thunderkick to include some relatively decent hits within the game, but you’ll need at least three matching symbols starting from the leftmost reel to win them. The amounts shown on the paytable aren’t the whole story either, as they can be significantly increased via the title’s main base game feature:

Multiplier Wild Symbols

These special wild symbols can only appear on reels two, three, and four. Should more than one of them appear on a single payline, the product of their values will be applied to your winnings instead. Each multiplier wild symbol can be worth 2x, 3x, 4x, or 5x, meaning that there is a theoretical maximum multiplier available of 125x!

The Wildos Slot Bonus Features

The Wildos Slot Free Spins Feature

Bonus scatter symbols only appear on three of the game’s five reels, and you will need to hit all three simultaneously to trigger the main bonus round. This will award eight free spins initially, with another nine available via re-triggers whilst the feature is active.

Free Spins

During the free spins bonus game, every wild that lands on the reels will immediately become sticky and locked in place for the remainder of the feature. In addition, every wild that lands during free spins will also fill up the meters shown at the bottom of the reels, with three additional free spins awarded every time a meter is filled.

This makes for a maximum possible 17 free spins from each bonus round, and I suspect that if the jackpot were not capped at 6,250x, it would certainly be possible to exceed this during a lucky feature with lots of big multiplier wilds!

Bonus Buy

If the bonus buy button is active in your jurisdiction, you can access the free spins feature any time you like for the cost of 100x your current bet.

The Wildos Slot Review Final Thoughts

I’m a true sucker for this type of bonus round, and even though The Wildos is a relatively simple online slot, I just couldn’t get enough of it whilst I was writing this review! Hitting a 3x multiplier wild is great during the base game but can be truly exciting whilst the free spins are active. I would recommend giving this one a try, as it’s the best Thunderkick slot I have played in a while.
