Game Overview
Over the years, native American tribes have been the source of some iconic movies. Let’s take Dances with Wolves, for example, a 90s masterpiece which saw Kevin Costner’s character Liteunent Dunbar escape the rat race to enjoy the simplicities of life with the Lakota Indian tribe. However, whilst this kind of theme might be popular for moviegoers, the crossover to an online slot hasn’t been quite as successful, so maybe Peter & Sons Thunder Hawk could be set to change the trend. This 5-reel slot has 20 fixed paylines, an RTP of 96%, and a maximum win of 40,000x the bet.
There are a few features to tell you about, starting with the Thunder Hawk collection meter. Land the special Thunderhawk symbols, and you’ll win the corresponding cash value from the meter. This feature is also central to the action during the free spins bonus, where you can also receive additional modifiers to help boost your winnings. The ultimate goal, however, is to fill up the free spins meter to activate the super free spins bonus. During this round, only Thunderhawk symbols and blank spaces will appear on the reels. All Thunderhawks are sticky, and at the end of the bonus, they will be tallied up, and the meter will reward you accordingly.
It’s a big decision to leave everyday life and be a part of a tribe, so before you make the jump, I suggest taking our free demo slot of Thunder Hawk for a spin to see if this life is for you. It’s available to play below.
Thunder Hawk Slot Theme, Stakes, Pays & Symbols
There are quite a few people who have gone by the name Thunderhawk, but I would imagine Peter & Sons have based this particular slot on Cetan Wakiyan, Chief Thunderhawk, who was a respected Lakota Sioux leader known for his wisdom, bravery, preserving indigenous traditions and advocating for Native American rights. So, with such a rich history, and legendary leaders, you’d have thought there would be several popular slots featuring such a theme, but the best I can think of for you to try is Pragmatic Play’s Mystic Chief or Print Studios Huntress Wild Vengeance. Perhaps Peter & Sons Thunder Hawk slot will finally put the Native American genre of online slots on the map. We’re ready to find out, so it’s time to jump into the pays section.
Starting at the top and the highest paying symbol, there’s the Chief himself paying 10x bet for a five of a kind win. Next is the Indian Male valued at 5x for a completed line of five, and the last of the premium symbols, the Female and the Young Indian Male, both worth 3x for a full line of five. As for the low pays, they are represented by four royal symbols, which are the Ace and King, both paying 2x for a full payline and five and finally, the Queen and Jack, paying 1x the bet for a five of a kind hit. There is an inclusion of a Wild symbol, which is the tribal headwear, and this will substitute for all other regular symbols and award 10x bet if five match on an active payline.
We’ve got a slightly peculiar betting range in the game, and although the standard minimum stake starts at €0.20 and reaches a maximum of €50, there isn’t the option to play at €1 a spin, which seems quite odd in my opinion. The alternatives around that mark are €0.80 or €1.20, so I feel this could be off-putting for a handful of punters who religiously stick to betting at set points when they play, with €1 surely being a fairly popular bet size to play at.
Base Game & Modifiers
Thunder Hawk is played on a 5×3 matrix comprising 20 fixed paylines. Players will be awarded a win when at least three matching symbols land, starting from the leftmost reel first and hitting across an active payline.
Thunderhawk Meter
Positioned to the left on the reels, you will see the Thunderhawk meter. By landing the special Thunderhawk symbol in view, you will be awarded the corresponding prize. So, for example, 3 symbols in view will pay 1x bet, whilst 10 will pay 10,000x the bet.
Golden Bet
Switching on the golden bet feature will increase your chances of triggering the free spins feature but will cost an extra 50% on top of the current stake. I couldn’t see anywhere in the game rules how much as a percentage, your chances are actually increased, so I’d likely not bother with this option if I was you.
Thunder Hawk Slot Bonus Features
There are two bonus rounds for you to aim for in Thunder Hawk. The first is the standard free spins triggered when 3 dreamcatcher scatter symbols land in view where 10 spins are awarded. And secondly, the super free spins feature, which is awarded when the collection meter at the bottom of the reels is filled. To fill the meter, you will need to trigger 7 of the standard free spins feature.
Free Spins
Whilst the standard free spins feature is active, the magic Dreamcatcher will award one of the following modifiers on every spin.
- Multiplier: A multiplier between 2 – 4x will be applied to any winnings.
- Extra Spins: Between 1 – 3 additional spins will be awarded.
- Additional Thunderhawks: Between 1 – 3 Thunderhawk symbols are added.
Super Free Spins
You will begin with 5 free spins, where a new reel set will now be in play that only includes Thunderhawk symbols and blank spaces. All Thunderhawks that land will remain sticky, and when the spin count reaches zero, your final win will be totalled up and credited to your balance. Keep a look out for the Dreamcatcher as well; this will award additional spins or extra Thunderhawks on every spin.
Bonus Buy
If you are playing from a region where buying the feature on a slot is possible, you can instantly access both free spin features as priced below.
- Standard Free Spins: 50x bet.
- Super Free Spins: 150x bet.
Pros
- Low price to buy the standard free spins if you can in your jurisdiction.
Cons
- If you don't like the symbol collection style games, then this is a bit one-dimensional.
- No €/£1 stake.
- The super free spins can be somewhat on an anti-climax when you finally trigger them.
Thunder Hawk Slot Review Final Thought
From the previous Peter & Sons games we reviewed, we know they tend to make great-looking slots, which is again the case with Thunder Hawk. However, that's about as good as it gets, and this one can simply be chucked on the pile with all the other special symbol collection style slots released over 2022 and 2023. Try the demo out by all means, but don't expect to see anything new and spectacular here.
