Thunderstruck 2 Slot Theme, Stakes, Pays & Symbols
In Norse mythology, Thor was an all-powerful god of thunder and has appeared in numerous other online slots over the years such as Playtech’s Thor, Yggdrasil’s Valhalla Saga, and Red Tiger’s Thor’s Vengeance. Graphically, Microgaming has done an excellent job of transferring you to Thor’s world, and the ambient soundtrack of the base game is replaced with a different exciting theme in each of the four bonus rounds.
The original Thunderstruck was a little top-heavy on the paytable, with only one combination that could award a huge win during the base game. The mechanics of this follow-up flip this on its head – with several high-paying symbols including the game logo wild, Thor, and Odin. The wild pays 33.3x your stake for a full line of five, but all combinations including a wild are doubled, making the prize effectively 66.6x. Furthermore, a wild on every reel will complete numerous other 3, 4, and 5 of a kind combinations. The Thor symbol pays around 17x your stake for a single pay-way.

Base Game & Modifiers
Although Thunderstruck 2 was not the first video slot to use the 243-ways to win mechanic, it was certainly one of the first to popularize it. In this style of slot, the reels are laid out in the traditional 5×3 formula, but instead of pay lines, wins are calculated based on all sets of symbols which are laid out consecutively across the reels from left to right.
A wild symbol appearing anywhere in the middle of these combinations will double the value of that particular win. The wild symbol can be used multiple times – for example, if you have Thor on reels 1, 3, and 4, and Valkyrie on reels 1 and 3, plus a wild symbol on reel two, you will win both a 4 of a kind Thor win and a 3 of a kind Valkyrie win.
Wild Storm Feature
You’ll always know when the Wild Storm feature is approaching, as the screen will darken, clouds will swirl across the top of the screen, hiding the Thunderstruck 2 slot logo, and the music will drop to a lower key.
After a short period of dramatic suspense building, thunder will strike from above, hitting one of the reels and converting it into a full stack of wilds. A short period of suspense will keep you guessing as to whether further bolts are about to fall from the sky, converting further reels into more stacked wilds.
This same feature was present in many other Microgaming slots, named “Wild Desire” in Immortal Romance, and “Wild Celebration” in The Finer Reels of Life. Unfortunately, in Thunderstruck 2 it seems very rare to hit a combination of more than two wild stacks, whereas the other games seemed more generous in this regard.

Hitting three or more Thor’s hammer symbols will unlock the hall of spins. A cookie placed on your machine by the casino you are playing at keeps track of how many times you have entered the hall of spins, and more options will become available to you the more times you arrive here.
Unfortunately, there isn’t any real difference in RTP between the four different bonus rounds – this is just a cheap way to encourage players to carry on playing so they can experience the later bonus rounds, and it’s probably a good thing that Microgaming decided to stop using this technique in their later video slots.
Nevertheless, here is a quick overview of the four options in the hall of spins:
Valkyrie Free Spins
This option is available to you from the first time you enter the hall of spins. You’ll receive just ten spins, but each one comes with a 5x multiplier. Many players prefer this option over the later three anyway, making the whole unlocking aspect kind of redundant. Free spins can be retriggered in this mode, and a five-scatter retrigger will reward you with a 5,000x stake hit.
Loki Free Spins
A personal favourite of ours, Loki awards you 15 free spins with his “Wild Magic” feature. The wild magic symbol appears only on the third reel, and when you are lucky enough for it to land in view it will spread out and add a random number of wilds elsewhere on the reels. This feature can go crazy and fill the entire screen occasionally, returning the maximum possible win of 8,100x your stake. Loki’s spins cannot be retriggered, but the scatters do still appear on the reels and award between one and four additional free spins for two to five scatters respectively.
Odin Free Spins
This is a strange one – Odin will award you 20 free spins with his “Wild Raven” feature, but it inevitably seems to end up with disappointing results. The Raven’s can only transform a maximum of two symbols into multiplier wilds of either 2x or 3x, and whilst this does mean a 6x multiplier is possible, it only applies to the symbols currently shown on screen, meaning it is possible to land two 3x ravens and still win nothing if no symbols line up correctly. Not our recommended option.
Thor Free Spins
Finally, catch the scatter symbols 15 times and the hall of spins will unlock its final secret. Thor awards the maximum of 25 free spins, with a rolling reels mechanic that eliminates winning combinations from the layout immediately allowing you to win multiple times per spin. Each time a winning combination is removed a multiplier increases up to a maximum of 5x, We want to love this mode, but it seems very difficult to win as much as Valkyrie or Loki’s offerings from Thor’s free spins.

What can we say? Thunderstruck was a massive hit that spawned a multitude of clones, and the sequel is bigger and better in every way. Unsurprisingly, this led to it being cloned endlessly too.
