We’ll start by giving an overview of the feature set – the game contains two primary bonus rounds, the first of which is a standard free spins feature, whilst the second, known as the “last call bonus”, is a Pick-Me type feature. Generally speaking, a pick-me bonus isn’t usually worth getting too excited about, but Northern Lights clearly do not subscribe to that school of thought – the “last call” bonus has a maximum prize of 5,000x your bet! Ticket To Riches Slot Theme, Stakes, Pays & Symbols
The theme used by Ticket to Riches is based on holidays and aeroplanes, but it also looks as if it is set in a period much earlier than the contemporary. The planes all use propellors, for example, and the couple that feature on the stacked symbols look as if they have been pulled straight out of the roaring 20s. Not to mention that funky camera that the guy on a desert island has around his neck… yes, I realise that some people still enjoy using large cameras even today. Still, your average tourist today will use a high-end smartphone rather than a huge Nikon. Perhaps I am just making too many assumptions, however! As far as the paytable is concerned, be prepared for a little shock and disappointment at first glance – the highest-paying symbol is the captain with a return of 8x for a full payway of five-of-a-kind. That isn’t the best headline figure to start with, and things go south quickly when you look at the next symbol, the air hostess, who is worth just 4x the current bet for all five of her symbols. The couple will pay you 3x for a full pay way, whilst the guy with the ancient camera is only worth 2x… but that one is understandable, considering he has to pay to develop the film in his camera! The lower-paying symbols are all represented by holiday and aircraft-related items, but with payouts ranging between 0.5x and 1x your bet, we won’t bother going into details.
Northern Lights have generously implemented a very low minimum wager of €0.10 per spin, meaning that even those with a tiny bankroll can still enjoy a decent session on this slot. The maximum bet of €40.00 should be sufficient for all but the most degenerate online gambler, I suspect!
Base Game & Modifiers
It seems clear that the big wins in this game don’t come from the paytable numbers alone then, so how do you score a win in the region of 5,000x, as the paytable implies? Well, even though there are no wild symbols in this game, all the symbols appear in stacked configurations on the reels.
With five reels of three rows each and 243 payways, a full screen of the top symbol would be worth in the region of 2,000x your bet – not bad for a base game hit! There are no scatter symbols to get in the way of winning pay lines either, although the game does feature something else.
Ticket Symbols
These special symbols appear on all five reels and can appear as either a 1×1 or 1×2-sized symbol. There are three meters displayed above the reel set – the first relates to the last call bonus, and any ticket symbols that appear on reels one and two will contribute to this meter. A 1×1 ticket will add one to the meter, whilst the larger ticket will add two to the meter.
If a ticket symbol lands on the centre reel, it will increase the free spins multiplier by 1x or 2x, depending on the ticket size. These multipliers do not come into play until you win the bonus round, meaning that the longer you wait for a feature, the more profitable that bonus round should be.
Finally, any tickets that land on reels four or five will add to the free spins meter, which is responsible for deciding how many spins you will receive when a bonus round begins.
Ticket To Riches Slot Bonus Features
We have already spoken quite a bit about the two main bonus features in Ticket to Riches, but how do you activate them? A special “collect” symbol can appear on reels one, two, four, and five only; when a collect symbol lands on the first two reels, you will be awarded the Last Call bonus, whereas those landing on the final two reels will trigger the free spins.
Last Call Feature
After the last call feature is triggered, you will be taken to a separate screen where you have a limited number of picks with which to bag yourself a win. Picking a boarding pass will award you a prize, such as the Grand Pass, worth 5,000x your bet, or a destination pass that will award the corresponding bet multiplier displayed on the departure board.
The number of picks awarded to find yourself a valued prize is determined by the number shown on the first meter in the base game when you hit the collect symbol that triggers the feature.
Free Spins
Whilst the last call feature can potentially award a huge instant prize, the chances of such a thing happening are probably relatively low. The free spins feature may be your best chance to hit a medium-sized win of perhaps a thousand times your bet, especially if you can build the two meters sufficiently during the base game before the feature is triggered.
Remember, the tickets you collect during the base game contribute to two meters that decide the multiplier and number of spins you will receive when you finally hit a collect symbol on reels four or five. The two meters will be reset at the end of your bonus round, which cannot be re-triggered.
Ticket To Riches Slot Review Final Thoughts
Ticket to Riches isn’t quite up to the standards of the previous Northern Lights slot that I reviewed, but that game set a very high bar – this does not mean that this is a bad game, not by a long shot!
Both the bonus rounds have their merits, but the free spins feature is probably the better of the two. You need a lot of luck to get a high multiplier, considering that there is only one reel which contributes to that meter compared with two for the other two meters, but I did manage to get a bonus round with 12 free spins at 5x during my testing; the paytable suggests that a 9x multiplier is possible. If you end up waiting long enough for the middle meter to reach 9x, then I would suggest that you absolutely deserve that 9x multiplier!
The presentation of Ticket to Riches is possibly only slightly above average, but the game punches above its weight in terms of fun and profitability. Definitely give this one a try if you can find it available at your favourite casinos.
