Game Overview

If, like me, you’re desperate for a holiday, but work and general life constraints are making this nigh-on impossible at the current time, then the latest slot I am reviewing might not be for you. During testing, the country symbols landing on the reels left me saying “I wish”, “one day”, and “if only” quite a bit. I’m a well-travelled guy, so I have seen my fair share of countries, but boy, could I do it with an extended holiday right now. Unfortunately, for the time being, the closest I’ll get to see a new country will be on NetEnt’s release, Ticket to Wild, a 5-reel, 3-row, and 20 payline slot with a maximum win of 3,110x the stake and a 96.13% RTP.

My first impressions were good, as the slot is well-designed. That’s become an expectation rather than a treat from NetEnt, but it’s clever how they’ve used one of those pull-down tables you’ll find on aeroplanes as the backdrop to the reels. There’s an eye mask, pen, earphones, and some candy scattered around a tablet, the latter of which is where the reels sit. The features are also clever, although you might have to play an extended session to see them in action. Pins are collected above the reels, and when three are collected, that reel receives a wild symbol. Easy peasy, for that one. The other collection mechanic, however, requires 50, 100, 150, and 200 Ink Blots to unlock benefits such as an extra row, a lower pin requirement for the wild symbols, and the addition of 2x wild multipliers.

You can learn more about those features throughout this review, but if you’d instead pack your suitcases and jump on board straight away, the Ticket to Wild slot demo is below.

Ticket to Wild slot theme, stakes, pays & symbols

Ticket to Wild Slot
Ticket to Wild Slot paytable

I like the creativity and uniqueness of the theme in Ticket to Wild, as I’m struggling to think of any other slots based on the ‘act’ of travelling. Sure, we get slots with games showcasing some of the world’s best-loved destinations, such as those in Big Time Gaming’s Vegas Megaways, Play’n Go’s Journey to Paris, and Bali Vacation Infinity Reels. However, I guess the actual travelling aspect is far less glamorous to players and developers alike.

Speaking of travel, it’s about time I fly over to the Ticket to Wild paytable to see what this particular onboard catalogue has to offer. The Australia sticker is the most appealing, as it is worth 10x the stake for a five-symbol combo. France is next up with a 5x top return, while India and Japan reward up to 4x and 3x, respectively. The playing cards offer the lower pays, with the Ace topping out at 2x, the King 1.5x, and the Queen, Jack, and Ten at 1x, 0.8x, and 0.6x

I’ve come to expect it from NetEnt slots, but if you’re a high roller as well as a high flier, the betting range supported by Ticket to Wild will not impress. You can wager a minimum of €0.10 but a maximum of only €20.00 per spin.

Ticket to Wild slot base game

Ticket to Wild Slot base game

The reel configuration of Ticket to Wild starts at 5×3 with 20 paylines, but via the base game features, it’s possible to increase those ways to 25 by expanding the grid by an extra row. Wins come when three or more of the same symbol line up along an active payline.

Credit Card Feature

Whenever a Credit Card symbol lands on a reel, a pin is added at the top of it. Once a reel has collected three pins, a Ticket Wild symbol is awarded to that reel. These remain sticky on the reels for three spins and will substitute for all regular symbols when winning combos are possible.

Ink Blot Progress Bar

The second progressive aspect of the Ticket to Wild slot is the Ink Blot bar to the right of the reels, although this one will take a lot longer to fill. The bar increases one position each time a symbol with an Ink Blot appears on the reels, and you’ll need to collect 50 just to unlock the first milestone, with three more coming after that. As for what you’ll get:

  • Milestone 1: Once the first 50 are collected, all future Ticket Wild symbols remain sticky on the reels for an additional spin.
  • Milestone 2: After another 100, the additional row at the bottom of the reels unlocks. From now on, you’ll play with 25 active paylines instead of 20.
  • Milestone 3: Once another 150 have been collected, each reel requires just 2 pins instead of 3 to receive a Ticket Wild symbol.
  • Milestone 4: After 200, should you still have a balance left or haven’t fallen asleep, all future Ticket Wild symbols hold a 2x win multiplier.

Ticket to Wild slot bonus features

Amongst all the Pin and Ink Blot collecting, you might get lucky enough to land a scatter symbol on each of the first, third, and fifth reels. When that happens, you trigger the Ticket to Wild free spins bonus.

Free Spins

As standard, you’re given 10 free spins with 2 Ticket Wild Symbols present throughout. They move positions on every spin. However, if you’d managed to unlock all Ink Blot levels in the base game before triggering the bonus, 3 Ticket Wild symbols roam the reels.

Pros

  • Another well-designed NetEnt slot.

Cons

  • Low max win.
  • The collection aspect of the slot will put some players off.

Ticket to Wild Slot Review Final Thoughts

The graphics, presentation, and unique theme will please the eyes, and the progression features and their unlockable modifiers will keep you sticking around longer than you’d perhaps planned. It’s not a slot that will stand the test of time, but as of now, I’m having a good time with it.
