I love time travel movies – The Terminator is one of the best flicks of all time, and its sequel Terminator 2, is a timeless action classic that pokes fun at the paradoxes that time travel supposedly implies. So, when I see a game based around warping time, I can’t help but think back to those fantastic movies from the 80s and 90s … perhaps unfairly giving Hacksaw Gaming a lot to live up to with their Time Spinners slot machine. But I have faith in the developer – this is a ten-line slot with a maximum win of 10,000x your stake, a great start for sure, and the RTP of 96.24% is also a winning introduction.
Feature-wise, the game has wild multipliers of up to 12x, which can be attached to individual symbols, and multiple wild multipliers can be included in a single win line. Unfortunately, the multipliers are added together rather than multiplied, but hey, you can’t have everything! A watch symbol modifier will boost all multipliers on the screen to the highest visible value, whilst the “Borrowed Time” bonus game is a two-stage sticky symbol affair that truly deserves discussing in real detail later on.

Time Spinners Slot Theme, Stakes, Pays & Symbols
Despite the Time Spinners name and the time travel aspect of the bonus rounds, the actual base game doesn’t lend itself to time travel too heavily. The symbols are… well, diamond-encrusted playing card symbols for the most part, although the higher value symbols are a little bit harder to explain… possibly artefacts from the future? A sports almanac, maybe? I apologise if I’m being dumb and not recognising these objects, but they all look pretty random to me. At least the stopwatch is recognisable! And the highest paying symbol reminds me of the machine they built-in “Contact”. We’re referencing a lot of movies today, aren’t we? Yeah, you can tell I’m a bit of a sci-fi fan for sure… but who isn’t?!
Ah, my favourite part of the review. Let’s break down this weird paytable, then! Starting with the all-important stopwatch, which also acts as a wild – funnily enough, it pays identically to the wild too, at 20x your stake for a full line of five-of-a-kind. After this, we have Jodie Foster’s time machine, also at 20x for all five, then umm.. the object with a purple backdrop at 10x your stake (sorry), a magical scroll-looking symbol comes in next at 5x your bet for a five-of-a-kind combination, and the sports almanac completes the high-paying symbols, also at 5x your bet for all five. These aren’t huge payouts for a ten-line game, but the multipliers and unusual 5×5 grid mean that smaller payouts can go much further than you might think!
Hacksaw has done their usual thing in allowing bets between €0.10 and €100.00 per spin, and I have to mention the clicky sound effect as you move up and down the betting range – it somehow makes me feel like a cheapskate the lower I go. Base Game & Modifiers
The base gameplay of Time Spinners is like no other ten-line slot I have ever seen. Hacksaw is one of the most innovative developers out there at the moment, I would say, and the 5×5 grid used here in their Time Spinners slot game is so unusual for a ten-line game that I have to recommend everybody who enjoys games with low numbers of paylines to check this one out immediately!
It’s the standard affair – at least three matching symbols from left to right will score you a win, but with just ten paylines, I’m afraid you can expect quite a few dead spins. When you do hit a winner, however, there is almost always at least one multiplier present on the line, and if it is a five-of-a-kind combination, you are reasonably likely to have two multipliers. Let’s get into detail!
Wild Multipliers
The pocket watch symbol is a dual-purpose symbol; it acts as a wild but also as a multiplier that will reveal a random value after it lands – as long as it forms part of a winning combination.
The revealed multiplied could be a lame 2x or a mighty 12x – you just never know. Ideally, you want two or three of these with decent multipliers on a payline. A maximum of ten of these symbols can land during a single spin in the base game, but this increases to 15 if you make it to the bonus round.
Watch Modifier
This is just a simple one, but it can prove extremely valuable – say you have a single 12x watch on screen and seven 2x watches… the sync modifier will upgrade all of the 2x watches to the value of the highest watch on-screen… which happens to be 12x! All of a sudden, you now have eight 12x watches! This symbol does land quite often in useless configurations, but when it drops at the right time, you’ll soon forget about all those duff spins!
Time Spinners Slot Bonus Features
There are two parts to the bonus round. First, you will need to hit three ghost symbols to enter the feature. Once you get there, you have a collection phase and a payout phase to look forward to. The best part of the borrowed time bonus game is that all multipliers which land during this mode are sticky – you can end up with a seriously profitable grid if even a single 12x multiplier lands followed by a sync symbol!
Free Spins Feature
So, let’s start with the collection phase – four new symbols are now added, all of which look like shattered clocks. The pocket watch, sync, and “echo” ? symbols are also present on the reels. The echo symbol hasn’t been mentioned until now, which is a little strange, I thought – I was unsure what it did, but the paytable explains that the echo symbol increases the value of all adjacent wild multipliers.
There are, in reality, two echo symbols as well – a regular and an epic variant. The normal echo can boost symbol values up to 10x whilst the epic echo tops out at 5x – that sounds kind of wrong, doesn’t it? But it’s all down to the way it works. The Epic echo connects across the entire screen, whilst the regular echo only affects adjacent symbols. The collect phase is essentially a three-spin bonus round – if a new special symbol lands, your counter resets to three. If you go three spins without any new special symbols, you’ll move on to the payout phase.
The payout phase is next, and the final part of the feature and multipliers collected in the previous part of the bonus remain in place as your free spins play out. Hopefully, you scored a fairly lucrative grid full of high-value multipliers, as this part of the bonus can potentially give you some epic-sized wins.
Bonus Buy Feature
We’ve got two bonus buy features here – one of which costs just 2x your current stake and makes it 3x more likely to trigger the bonus feature on the next spin. I suspect this will be valid in most jurisdictions.
The second option costs 100x your stake and takes you straight to the Borrowed Time bonus round. This one will only be available in certain jurisdictions, but it’s … probably a bargain. I don’t know; I’m kind of 60/40 on it, if I’m honest. I wish I could leave a billion rounds running and jump into the future to see the results, but as I cant, I advise caution as always when spending so much on what is effectively one spin… no matter how profitable it *could* be.
