Game Overview
I think you’d agree that if you were to browse through the entire collection of Play’ n Go games, you’d find more slots themed around Egypt than by anybody else. Well, it would be a close call, that’s for sure. I guess that’s a bit of a giveaway then for what’s to come in today’s slot review, as Tomb of Gold has just made its way into my inbox. Whizzing through the stats, I can tell you this is a 6-reel slot with 4,096 ways to win, an RTP of 96.29%, and a maximum win of 7,000x bet.
My initial thought when I saw Tomb of Gold was surely this couldn’t be another “book of” slot, and thankfully, I was correct; there’s not an expanding symbol in sight. Instead, Play’n Go have treated us to two different bonus features that can be won. The first is a free spins bonus triggered if at least three scatters appear in view, where a wheel will award you your starting spins and win multiplier, both of which can be increased during the feature. Secondly, a hold & respin bonus is activated if six coins appear on the reels. Once active, players have the opportunity to land more coins, which transform into multipliers once the feature ends.
At this point, I probably feel like I’ve been on more archaeological expeditions than Lara Croft and Indiana Jones rolled into one. If you’re feeling the same but fancy one more outing anyway, why not fire up our free Tomb of Gold demo slot? It’s available to play below.
Tomb Of Gold Slot Theme, Stakes, Pays & Symbols
If you’ve explored our site in more detail, you’ll know we cover several genres of online slots, making specific pages where you can find all related games in one place. One such page features all things Egyptian, and you’ll find some popular games to try out there, with recommendations being the Legacy of Dead free play slot, the equally impressive Legacy of Egypt demo, and if you’re completely new to the genre, then the Book of Dead free play slot is another must play game and one of the biggest ever created in iGaming. I suppose you could say that Tomb of Gold has its work cut out in such a completive niche of slot game, but let’s put it through its paces and see how it fares. As always, we’ll begin over at the pay section.
We’ve got two symbols sharing the coveted top spot on the paytable, with the Mummies Mask and Bastet sharing payouts of 5x the bet for a winning combination of six. There are just two more symbols in the premium section, with the Scarab Beetle and Ankh both paying 3x for a full line of six. The ever reliable royals make up the lower paying symbols, and you’ll find the Ace and King with equal rewards of 1.4x, and finally, the Queen, Jack and Ten with payouts of 1x the bet for a six of a kind win.
Low, mid, and high rollers will all be able to find a suitable playing stake on Tomb of Gold regardless of their starting bankroll. Players have the option to spin from a mere €0.10 up to a mind boggling €100 a press.
Tomb Of Gold Slot Base Game & Modifiers
Play’n Go’s Tomb of Gold is set across a 6×4 reel matrix with 4,096 ways to win active on each spin. You can top up your balance with funds by landing a minimum of three matching symbols on consecutive reels starting from the leftmost reel first.
Coin Scatter Respin
If four or five of the gold coins scatter symbols land, they will hold in place, and a free respin will be given. If the remaining coins land, the Lock’n Gold bonus will be triggered.
Tomb Of Gold Slot Bonus Features
Although the base game is a little boring, we do have two bonus rounds that can potentially be triggered. These are the free spins feature and the Lock’n Gold bonus round.
Lock’n Gold Bonus
If a Golden Coin lands on each reel, the Lock’n Gold bonus will activate. All symbols will be removed from the reels, you’ll be awarded three respins, and only gold coins can now land on the reels. Each time a new coin lands, the respin count will be reset to three, with the bonus finally ending and all coins revealing a multiplier value when the spin count reaches zero.
Free Spins Feature
Landing three or more of the Sphinx scatter symbols will trigger the free spins, where you’ll be taken to a wheel, which will determine your starting spin count and win multiplier value. Once the feature begins, any wild symbols that land will increase the multiplier value by +1, whilst each scatter then hits will add an extra spin to your current total.
Pros
- There are two bonus rounds to trigger.
Cons
- Variable RTP levels that reach as low as 84.26%.
Tomb Of Gold Slot Review Final Thoughts
Tomb of Gold was a bit of a mixed bag for me. I liked that once the free spins feature is in play, you can increase your multiplier value, as there are plenty of online slots use a similar starting point, but if you land a low multiplier, you know you don't stand much chance of winning. That isn't the case here, and it is a nice touch.Unfortunately, during my testing, it took quite a while to trigger the Lock'n Gold bonus, and when I finally activated it, I was given three dead spins and a zero paying bonus. Yes, this may have just been unlucky, but still, it's a bit of a kick in the teeth to get zeroed from a slot that doesn't have much paying potential anyway.Perhaps you'll have better luck, and this will make its way onto your regular Egyptian slot playlist, but for me, I'll bury this one for another 1000 years and hope it's got a bit more value the next time it's dug up.
