Game Overview
The word ‘Tombstone’ typically refers to a grave marking of some kind, but it’s also the name of a fictional town in the Old West – according to Nolimit City, at least! I don’t know about you, but I certainly wouldn’t want to live in a place named Tombstone… but I guess somebody has to! Us mere mortals might be afraid of the place, but Nolimit City certainly is not – the developers’ new Tombstone RIP online slot is a 108-payway machine with a 96.08% RTP and a maximum jackpot of, wait for it, 300,000x the total bet! Is that a record? If not, it must be one of the top five biggest prizes any online slot offers!
I’m sure you will be wondering – how on earth could a simple slot machine have such a wide range of potential payouts? The reality is that it’s anything but simple, but it all starts with a supercharged fifth reel! Tombstone RIP is packed with special features, and you’ll need to get lucky with almost all of them to stand a chance of getting close to that mouth-watering 300,000x jackpot. The game does its best to help by throwing you xSplit wilds and xNudge modifiers, but the biggest wins can only be achieved by making it to the Boothill Free Spins. Unfortunately, Nolimit City hasn’t included a bonus buy facility this time around either, so patience is essential when playing Tombstone RIP.
Are you prepared for a trip to North America’s most frightening town? I sure hope so, as there’s no turning back now! So lace up your boots and fire up our free demo slot of Tombstone RIP – El Gordo is waiting.
Theme, Stakes, Pays & Symbols
Nothing surprises me anymore when it comes to Nolimit City and their mature themes, but Tombstone RIP certainly came close! This might even be the developers’ most extreme slot yet, overtaking previous horror-themed efforts such as Rock Bottom and The Border. Tombstone’s graphics are undeniably shocking, but no more so than its top jackpot of 300,000x the total bet!
The paytable is divided into two sections; cowboys represent the high-paying symbols, whilst the low pays are standard royals. El Gordo is the most valuable of the bunch, boasting a return of 4x the total bet for a full payway of five of a kind. In second place, you have Edda Star with a payout of 3x for all five symbols, closely followed by Skinny Joe at 2.5x. The remaining two cowboys aren’t named – perhaps they aren’t wanted just yet! – but there’s one male and one female, offering returns of 1x and 1.5x the total bet, respectively. As for the royals, Five Tens will get you 0.5x the total stake, whilst five Aces are slightly more valuable at 0.9x.
A word of caution requiring the available betting range; the minimum/maximum permitted bets have been set at €0.10 and €50.00, respectively, but this has to be one of the most volatile online slots ever released. Therefore, I’d strongly recommend betting a little less than usual when playing Tombstone RIP.
Base Game & Modifiers
If it wasn’t already obvious, Tombstone RIP is anything but your typical online slot! The base game utilises five reels, arranged in a 2-3-3-3-1 row configuration for a total of 108 payways. However, that’s only half the story because the splitting wild symbols will also frequently divide the standard payways.
Fifth Reel
The fifth reel has several special properties:
- All symbols count as doubles
- No low-value symbols are included on the reel.
- Wild, xSplit Wild, and Boothill Scatter are only present during the base game and the Hang’em High Free Spins mode.
- Only the five cowboy symbols are present during Boothill Free Spins.
Xnudge Wilds
Several Nolimit City games include xNudge symbols, but the ones offered in Tombstone RIP are particularly valuable. These special symbols can only land on reels two, three, and four and will always nudge so they are fully visible whenever they hit. In addition, each nudge increases the wild multiplier by 1x.
Wilds & Splitting Wilds
Regular wild symbols are included on reels two, three, four, and five. The special ‘split’ wild can only land on reels two, three, and four. A split wild will automatically divide itself and all other positions on that reel into two, doubling the number of rows.
The fifth reel contains a unique ‘xSplit’ wild that has a random effect on the layout of the other reels. The path it takes is decided by a lucky draw between four possible outcomes, but this is always a very valuable symbol to hit.
Enhanced Bet
For just 10% more per spin, you can enable Tombstone RIP’s bonus bet facility, increasing the odds of triggering the game’s two bonus rounds. This seems like a very small price to pay, but it’s worth noting that the exact increase in odds is not specified anywhere in the game’s rules.
Tombstone RIP Slot Bonus Features
Bonus scatter symbols are present on all five reels of Tombstone RIP, but there are a couple of variations to be aware of. Landing only two Hang ‘Em High scatters will cause them to transform into split wilds, whilst three will trigger eight Hang ’Em High free spins.
The most valuable feature is the Boothill free spins, but you’ll need to hit all three Hang ‘Em scatters plus the special Boothill scatter on reel five to trigger that mode. If the Boothill scatter lands without any other scatter symbols, the reel will re-spin and land a high-paying symbol with a multiplier instead.
Hang ’em High Free Spins
This is a progressive multiplier free spins bonus but works a little differently to those that feature in other slots, such as the Megaways games. The win multiplier is increased whenever a special symbol lands anywhere on the playfield – a regular wild provides a 1x boost, whilst a split or xSplit wild offers a 2x bump. The xNudge wild can boost the current multiplier by 1x, 2x, or 3x, depending on how many nudges are required to shift the symbol into view.
Boothill Free Spins
You’ll need to be patient if you want to see this part of the game, as it requires four scatter symbols to activate. In this mode, the fifth reel only contains the five high-paying cowboy symbols. Whichever symbol lands on reel five will automatically transform all other matching symbols into wilds. On every spin, a random multiplier of between 5x and 999x will be drawn and applied to a random cowboy symbol.
Bonus Buy
Players who can access the bonus buy menu can choose from the following options.
- Hang Em’ High Free Spins – Cost 80x the bet.
- Boothill Free Spins – 3000x the bet.
Pros
- A monster-sized maximum win of 300,000x bet.
- One of the best western-themed slots ever to be created.
- Another NLC masterpiece with regard to design, graphics and audio.
Cons
- The ultra-high volatility may be off-putting for some players.
Tombstone RIP Slot Review Final Thoughts
Tombstone RIP has to be one of the craziest online slots you’ll ever play, and its maximum 300,000x jackpot makes a typical 5,000x game look quaint by comparison. However, the odds of hitting that jackpot are not listed, and you have to assume that they are probably not much better than the odds of winning the lottery! As long as that doesn’t bother you, I can’t recommend this game enough.
