Game Overview

Totem poles are monumental carvings found all across the North-West of the North American continent. They are mostly carved from wood, although stone examples also exist and usually feature a mixture of human heads, animals, and symbols. There are various types of totem poles intended to symbolise a variety of things, but I find them all equally spooky, to be honest with you! Thankfully, PG Soft has stuck to cartoonlike representations of the objects in their new Totem Wonders online slot, so it isn’t particularly freaky! The game has three reels, ten paylines, a 96.73% RTP, and a top win of 2,500x the player’s stake.

In addition to the three main reels of Totem Wonders, the game also features two unique ‘win multiplier reels’ on either side of the playfield, which can reveal either wild symbols or a multiplier of up to 5x. Totem poles were often used as an illustration of family lineage by the Native people of the Pacific Northwest. The poles are typically carved from the rot-resistant trunks of certain Cedar trees, but even these will eventually decay in moist, rainy climates, meaning that there are relatively few surviving examples today. Despite this, we’ve already seen plenty of online slots based around these fascinating artefacts, such as Quickspin’s Totem Thunder, Blue Guru’s Totem Link, and Silverback’s Tiki Bonanza. The theme of Totem Wonders is similar to these other games, but I think that I actually prefer the graphical style of PG Soft’s game over the lot of them!

Each spin is played with ten coins, so you’ll need to divide the numbers shown on the paytable by that amount in order to get the returns as a multiple of your stake. After performing this calculation, I determined that the wild symbol is the most valuable of the bunch, paying 10x your stake for a full payline of three of a kind. The rest of the symbols are represented by various totems, starting with a bird with a payout of 2x for all three symbols, a pink face at 1.5x, and a purple dog-like face with a return of 1x. There are three lower pays, too, a brown face that could possibly be a rabbit with a return of 0.5x, a green owl at 0.3x, and a blue something at 0.2x!

Selecting your bet is performed using PG Soft’s standard four-dropdown selector system. These allow you to choose bet size, bet level, the number of paylines, and the total bet amount, resulting in minimum/maximum wagers of €0.20 and €100.00 per round, respectively. Having scrolled through the entire bet range, I can confirm there are plenty of options for you to choose from, regardless of the size of your playing budget.

The base game of Totem Wonders utilises three main reels along with two additional win multiplier reels. Of the main reels, the first and third have three rows each, whilst the central reel has four. The game is always played with ten bet lines, but the unusually sized playfield means it may be worth checking the line diagram on the paytable before beginning to play. Wins are only awarded for full paylines of three symbols.

Win Multiplier Reels

At the start of each spin, the two win multiplier reels on the left and right of the main playfield will spin to reveal a multiplier of 1x, 2x, 3x, 5x, or a wild. Whenever multipliers appear on these reels, their values will be added together before being applied to the total win from the current game round.

If the left win multiplier reel lands on a wild, it will transform all symbols on the first regular reel into stacked wilds. Likewise, if a wild lands on the right win multiplier reel, it will transform the third regular reel into a stack of wilds.

There is no real main bonus round in Totem Wonders, but a Double Wild mini feature can be activated by simultaneously landing a wild on both of the wins multiplier reels.

When both win multiplier reels land on a wild on the same game round, this special feature will be triggered. Reels one and three will be filled with wild symbols, and the win multiplier reels will then spin for a second time.

In this mode, the wild symbols are removed from the win multiplier reels, ensuring that both can only land on a 1x, 2x, 3x, or 5x multiplier. The product of the two multipliers will then be applied to the total win, meaning a top overall multiplier of 25x.

Totem Wonders Slot Review Final Thoughts

This is a fun game, but the feature set is very limited, meaning that you will probably grow tired of it relatively quickly. Totem Wonders is certainly worth a few spins, but you’ll probably forget all about it within just a handful of sessions.
