Train to Rio Grande (BGaming) Slot Demo & Review

When asked to think about the world’s most famous rivers, you’ll probably reel off names such as the Nile, Amazon, Mississippi, Ganges, Thames, and Rhine, but it’s another that we’re focusing on today, the Rio Grande, which flows through the United States and Mexico and is one of the longest in North America. See, in BGaming’s Train to Rio Grande slot, a train is taking people and a huge vault to that river. However, a gang of cowboy outlaws has its eyes on that vault, or more specifically, what’s inside it. You should, too, as it could contain a massive multiplier payout of 9,990x the stake. Train to Rio Grande is a 5×3 slot with 10 paylines, a 96.10% RTP, and a 10,490x the stake maximum win.

The base game in Train to Rio Grande is not much to write home about. All you can hope for is a few winning combinations to boost your bankroll until you’re fortunate enough to trigger the slot’s bonus game. Once achieved, the outlaws crack open the safe, revealing a multiplier win of up to 9,990x the stake. The slot also features a bonus buy feature that allows you to purchase that bonus game outright.

There are not many train-themed slots, but I bet any experienced slot enthusiast among you knows about one particular series of slots from Relax Gaming. That’s right, the award-winning Money Train series features huge maximum wins and the hugely entertaining Money Cart bonus game. Money Train 3 is my pick of the bunch, and although Money Train 4 features a bigger max win, the third in the franchise remains my firm favourite, and I think that probably goes for most online slot players, too.

Train to Rio Grande certainly has a lot to live up to if it hopes to become even half as good as any of the Money Train slots, and in all honesty, I highly doubt it will, as while it looks fantastic, you can see there’s not too much in terms of features and mechanics. As for the payouts, these cannot compete either. The Rich Man returns 30x the stake for five in a row, while the Outlaw is worth up to 20x, and the Woman pays a maximum of 4x. The Tiger, Car, Poker Game, and Coin Chest come next and share a top return of 1.5x, and the Grave Stone finishes things off, maxing out at 0.5x for a winning combo of five.

The stakes supported on Train to Rio Grande range from a minimum of €0.10 to a maximum of €24.00 per spin. The bottom end of this scale will appeal to low-rollers interested in trying the game for real money, and although some could argue the top end falls short compared to other slot games, €24 is still a massive stake, and I don’t envisage many players wanting to spin beyond that bet size.

Train to Rio Grande slot base game

Train to Rio Grande Slot base game

Train to Rio Grande offers five reels three rows, and has 10 fixed paylines for you to attempt to land winning combinations. They’re created when three or more matching symbols land across a payline. Those combos must start from the first reel and move across a payline on consecutive reels to the right.

Train to Rio Grande slot bonus features

With little happening in the base game, the biggest and best wins come from the bonus round. This is different from your traditional kind of free spins bonus, too, so let’s learn how it’s triggered and what you can expect to see once it’s activated.

Safe Bonus Round

Three or more bonus scatter symbols trigger the bonus game, which gives you a single spin that unlocks a huge safe on the train to reveal a multiplier of your stake. If three scatters trigger the feature, the most you can win is 999x your stake. However, if four or five scatters land, your final payout is multiplied by 3x or 10x, respectively. That means it’s possible to win up to 9,990x the stake.

Bonus Buy

You can purchase the bonus for 100x the current bet via the bonus buy feature, where you’ll receive at least three scatter symbols in return.

Pros

  • Fantastic visuals and presentation.

Cons

  • The gameplay is lacklustre, to say the least.

Trian to Rio Grande Slot Review Final Thoughts

Visually, the Train to Rio Grande is fantastic. Everything from the animated introduction to the sequences when two or more bonus symbols land is done to an exceptional standard. However, the gameplay was a letdown. Aside from symbol payouts, the base game delivers zilch, and the bonus game simply delivers a random multiplier of your stake. I guess that’s all you get from most bonus games, so this one is straight to the point, but I’m the type that likes a bit more build-up before finding out what I’ve won. However, it’s worth a look for its presentation alone, and you might get more enjoyment out of the gameplay than I did.
