Turbo MinesTurbo MinesSlot Demo & Review

I’ve been aware of the modern Minesweeper “scene” for some time now, but a large number of Minesweeper-based simple gambling games out there still came as quite a shock when I began to come across such titles a few months ago. The latest such game to appear on my radar comes courtesy of Turbo Games – a regular here at Demoslot in recent months – and is named Turbo Mines. This game has one of the largest maximum win limits that I’ve ever encountered in a simple gambling game – theoretically, you could even win hundreds of thousands of times your bet when playing this game. The RTP of 95% is a little bit more grounded, unfortunately!

I’m sure you are already wondering how such a thing is possible, but the answers aren’t particularly surprising once you familiarise yourself with the game. For a start, there are four different grid sizes available ranging between 3×3 and 9×9, whilst the number of mines that can be laid on the grid is also fully configurable. Imagine setting the game to its maximum size of 9×9 for a total of 81 positions and then laying mines on 80 out of those 81. I’m sure you can see how the player’s odds would be beyond terrible in such a scenario, but someone, somewhere, will get lucky eventually – just look at the number of people who manage to hit their number when playing roulette, for example!

Do you have a soft spot for classic Windows games such as Hearts and Minesweeper? If so, give our Turbo Mines demo a try – I’m sure there will be many people out there who will get a good pang of nostalgia from trying games such as this.

Turbo Mines is incredibly similar to Hacksaw Gaming’s Mines game, although the latter offered a superior RTP of 98% compared to the 95% offered by this version. We’ve also looked at several other Minesweeper-like games in recent times, as well as a bunch of other simple gambling and crash games. Turbo Mines isn’t the best-looking of either bunch, nor is it the most fun in my experience, but it does offer a good degree of how it can be configured, which should help to keep players entertained a little longer than they might otherwise be.

The trouble with games such as this, in my opinion, is the very limited number of outcomes, and Turbo Games has at least done its best to negate this by offering multiple grid sizes and adjustable numbers of mines. You can play around with these two settings to determine the level of risk that you are happy with, and you can even enable a “turbo” mode which allows you to pre-select as many spaces as you are comfortable with and view the outcome instantly. With the grid set to the minimum size of 3×3, you won’t be winning any monster jackpots – even with the number of mines dialled up to the maximum, the RTP locks in your maximum win at just 8.65x the total bet. Changing to larger grid sizes soon begins to tell a different story, however, and by the time you get up to the largest grids, the potential winnings become enormous.

As with all of the previous Turbo Games products we reviewed, the minimum/maximum permitted bets when playing Turbo Mines have been set at €0.10 and €100.00 per round, respectively. There’s a good amount of control between the two limits as well, and everybody should find it easy to pick a bet amount that they are happy with. I’m not sure why so many slot developers seem so opposed to this simple concept nowadays!

Turbo Mines Gameplay

Gambling-focused Minesweeper and Crash Games such as Turbo Mines do play a little differently from the original game. For example, picking a square does not reveal a number as you might remember – it’s completely random, something that is a natural consequence of the fact this is not a skill game but a prize machine.

After picking a grid size, setting the number of mines, and choosing your stake, all that is left is to either enable the turbo mode and pick your squares or hit bet and then play the game one space at a time. If you opt for the former, you can pick anywhere from one spot up to the number of unmanned spaces you have left over, with increased profits paid for picking larger numbers of squares. If you play the game without the turbo mode enabled, you’ll be shown your current profit after each pick and can cash out at any time – provided you don’t hit a mine, of course!

Turbo Mines Bonus Features

Unfortunately, there are not any bonus rounds or features in Turbo Mines.

Pros

  • Minesweeper remains popular decades after its release, so Turbo Mines will probably find a decent number of fans.
  • Big jackpots for those willing to take significant risks on the minefield.

Cons

  • Not the best of the recent updates to Minesweeper.
  • The RTP of 95% is lower than all of the other Minesweeper-based games that we have reviewed.

Final Thoughts

I’ve recently enjoyed testing a couple of the other Turbo Games products, but for some reason, this one just didn’t grab me. I don’t know if it's because I was too determined to try and hit a huge win, but I seemed to lose almost constantly whilst trying to test the game. I’ll probably stick to the Hacksaw variant, I think.
