Game Overview
Video slots remain the popular choice at online casinos, but did you know video poker games made the mainstream first? Poker-Matic, developed by a company now known as the famous land-based and online slots developer, IGT, became the first video poker game in the 1970s. That was several years before video slots first emerged. Both types of casino games have enjoyed continued popularity over the years, now, of course, in an online capacity as well. While slots have become the majority choice for most iGaming fanatics, there is still a demand for Video Poker, and today we look at the aptly-named Video Poker game from Evoplay.
In all honesty, it is going to prove challenging to speak about a game given the same name as its genre. It is like reviewing an online slot called ‘Online Slot’. Still, it is what it is, and Video Poker is a video poker game from Evoplay. This version of the game is Jacks or Better, as a pair of jacks is the minimum hand required to win. It is a reasonably standard title that is similar to many others, but it does allow you to ‘run’ each hand between 1 and 5 times. The action you take for your hand is played out up to 5 times, giving you different results each time.

Graphics & Features
For me, and it seems for most others, graphics are not a significant priority when playing video poker. Most titles offer simple graphics and animations that work flawlessly across all devices. Video poker is designed to be a quick and easy game that delivers fast results. That translates across most video poker variations, including those of Double Bonus Poker and Deuces Wild.
On Evoplay’s Video Poker, you have the paytable to the left of the screen, providing the payouts for the poker hands you can create. The centre of the screen is where your hands take place, and at the bottom are the buttons you use to control the game. The latter involves setting a bet, choosing how often you want to ‘Run’ the hand, configuring ‘Autoplay’, and clicking ‘Deal’
How To Play Evoplay’s Video Poker
The first thing you’ll want to do is decide how many runs of your hand you want to play. This affects your bet, as the stake you set is multiplied by how many hands you choose to run. You can run the hand once or up to five times per hand. The hands are precisely the same for each run but played with different decks, so you should get different results most of the time.
Next, set your bet and click the ‘Deal’ button. You receive 5 cards from which you must attempt to make the best 5-card poker hand. At this point, you can choose to swap out any cards you wish. Just hold the cards you want to keep and hit the ‘Deal’ button again, and you will receive replacements for the cards you didn’t hold. You win whenever you create a hand that is a pair of jacks or better. You receive a 1:1 payout for a pair of jacks, queens, kings, or aces, while the better hands bring you payouts of up to 250:1.
- Royal Flush: 250:1
- Straight Flush: 50:1
- 4 of a Kind: 25:1
- Full House: 8:1
- Flush: 5:1
- Straight: 4:1
- 3 of a Kind: 3:1
- 2 Pairs: 2:1
- Jacks or Better: 1:1
Staking Options
On the Evoplay Video Poker demo, you can wager between €0.10 and €7,500.00 per hand. However, I doubt you can wager as much as that when playing the real money version at online casinos. Demo games often offer insane betting ranges as you’re not playing for real money.
Pros
- The option to run your hand up to 5 times is a good feature that will appeal to players wanting to place more bets per hour.
- Quick and easy betting action.
Cons
- A variation of Jacks or Better is a more appropriate title.
Evoplay's Video Poker Review Final Thoughts
Before reviewing Evoplay's Video Poker, I hadn't touched a video poker game for several years. Playing a 'few' hands for this review suddenly turned into a session lasting a couple of hours. I'd forgotten how addictive and enjoyable some video poker games can be. The biggest positive for me was the option to run the hand up to five times. I did this all the time. When you get an excellent starting hand, it has the potential to pay out big across each run.
