When you’re struggling to come up with something new, stick to the tried and tested – and this seems to be the mantra for many slot developers when it comes to themes. Wheel O’ Gold Slot Theme, Stakes, Pays & Symbols
It seems silly to harp on about common slot themes, as they’re just aesthetics, but once you’ve played hundreds, or in my case, written about hundreds of slots featuring that same green cheeky chappy promising pots of gold, it gets a bit old. That’s not to say there haven’t been some epic leprechaun, four-leafed clover, and rainbow-infused Irish slot games released over the years. In fact, some of the best enjoyment I had during my early slot-playing days came from SG Gaming’s Rainbow Riches series of slots. As for the more enjoyable modern slots utilising that feature, Luck O’ the Irish Gold Spins is another that I regularly enjoy playing.
I’ve not yet got to the point of deciding whether Wheel O’Gold is a title that could take its place on my playlist, for the apparent reason that I’m still halfway through reviewing the fudging thing, but it stands as good a chance as any other slot – especially if the paytable throws up some decent scores. That said, I’m not expecting much, as Scatter pays slots often offer lower individual symbol payouts than those using other mechanics, usually because cascades and multipliers work together to bulk up the payouts from a winning spin. The high-paying symbols comprise all those lucky symbols you either love or are sick of looking at: the Leprechaun’s Hat, Horseshoe, Mug of Beer, Smoking Pipe, and a Four-Leafed Clover. The worst and best you can hope for when matching 12 or more of the better payers is 5x to 25x the stake. That’s still much better than the 1x to 4x offered by the Blue, Purple, Pink, and Red low-paying gem symbols.
Regarding the stakes supported, Pragmatic Play has always been fair with its ranges, which is the case once again. Everyone should be able to find a stake they are comfortable with between the minimum of €0.20 and the maximum of €240.00.
Wheel O’ Gold Slot Base Game
As with the theme, Pragmatic Play has stuck to the tried and tested Scatter pays mechanic that has served it so well for many a good year now, and that means no paylines, clusters, or ways, and just matching 8 or more symbols in any position on the reels to create payouts. Unsurprisingly, The developers also dusted off the Tumble Feature once more, which is understandable considering how well the two mechanics work so together. All symbols involved in a winning combo explode and disappear, leaving space behind for others to drop down to provide a chance for new wins to occur.
Multiplier Wheel
When it comes to win multipliers, there’s a different approach in play on the Wheel O’Gold, at least compared to Pragmatic Play’s other recently released Scatter Pays slots. The title gives a rather unsubtle hint as to what they may be, but for those still struggling, I’ll give a couple of other clues: it’s circular and spins.
Each time you enjoy five consecutive tumble wins on a single spin; you’re given a spin on a wheel that can reveal a win multiplier between 2x and 50x. That may seem a low range, especially compared to other Scatter Pays slots, but remember, you’re always going to be multiplying a total win that came from a five-long string of tumbles, so there’s the potential for big numbers here.
Wheel O’ Gold Slot Bonus Features
There are no restrictions on where the bonus scatter symbols can land on the reels, and you’ll need at least four in any position to trigger a minimum of 10 free spins. Five and six will boost that spin count at the start of the bonus to 15 and 20, respectively.
Free Spins
The multiplier wheel also makes a big contribution to the free spins bonus, as it first appears before the start of the feature to determine a random win multiplier that, at least initially, remains the same across the free spins and applies to all wins that come your way. It’s called into action once collected four times by a meter, and once that happens, you’re rewarded with another spin of the wheel and receive an additional 4 free spins. The multiplier value awarded from the wheel is added to the old value to give you a new and improved multiplier going forward.
Bonus Buy
If you’d rather take a shortcut directly to the free spins bonus and that lucrative multiplier wheel, you’ll be pleased to hear the Wheel O’ Gold falls into the slots with bonus buy category, and you can use the feature buy to purchase it for 100x the bet – although you should note that using this feature will lower the RTP slightly to 95.94%. Pragmatic Play has made an impressive start to 2024 in terms of the quality of its slot releases, and whilst Wheel O’Gold is not the best of them, it's another that I just know will appeal to a large percentage of you.
