Wheels Of Flame (Playtech) Slot Demo & Review

I imagine that, like me, most of you think of the Mega Moolah, WowPot, Age of the Gods, Jackpot King, and more recently, Dream Drop when you think about progressive jackpot networks. However, while these can offer obscene payouts of seven or even eight figures in size, they only pay out occasionally. Sure, somebody wins them eventually, but you have to get incredibly lucky. That is why some players prefer to play slots that are part of smaller progressive jackpots, such as Playtech’s PowerPlay. The Mega Jackpot on this network has average payouts of €125,000 but pays out once a month on average. Would any of you turn your nose up at such a win? Sure, you’re not an instant millionaire, but that’s a hefty score, no matter how you dress it up. Wheels of Flame PowerPlay is the latest Playtech slot to contribute to that progressive jackpot, and today, I’m going to check out what else this 5-reel, 30-payline slot with a 94.99% RTP has to offer.

First of all, while the progressive jackpots are the primary reason to play Wheels of Flame, it has plenty more features tucked away within it to keep you entertained. If you’re a Playtech fan, you might even find this slot familiar, and well, that’s because the original Wheels of Flames slot launched only around a year ago itself. In truth, this is the same slot, albeit with the PowerPlay jackpots bolted on. There’s the Wheels of Flame feature again, too, which could give you cash prizes of up to 500x the stake, a respins with up to 12 additional wilds, or even trigger a free spins bonus, where up to 50 can be awarded.

Whilst you can’t win a progressive jackpot in free play mode, you can still use the Wheels of Flame PowerPlay demo slot below to check everything else the game has to offer. So what are you waiting for? Get it fired up and give it a blast.

I get why players prefer smaller progressive jackpot networks due to more frequent jackpot wins, but on the other hand, I also understand why others want to go big or go home playing others that offer the chance to win millions. If you fall under the latter, we’ve reviewed some cracking progressives you should check out. Mega Moolah Megaways is one of the better slots on the Mega Moolah network, and it has paid jackpots worth up to €20 million in the past. Then there is the Dream Drop, a newer network from Relax Gaming that often pays out two or three million to lucky winners, and let’s not forget Big Time Gaming’s Megapays too, although I’d have to say they are probably the worst of the bunch when it comes to the current crop of progressive jackpot mechanics.

While Wheels of Flame PowerPlay cannot compete with the jackpot numbers thrown around by the slot games developed by other progressive slot creators, it may hold its own via the local payouts available on its paytable. The Wild symbol, which also substitutes for all regular symbols, and the Phoenix share the top spot with equal returns of 15x the stake for a winning combo of five. The Lady Character is next and delivers a max win of 10x, followed by the Egg worth up to 7.5x, whilst the remaining premiums are the Crown, Ring, and Necklace, with payouts of 5x, 4x, and 3.5x, respectively. Last of all, in the pays section, we end with the lower pays represented by the Ace, King, Queen, and Jack, which all share pays of 2.5x for a five of a kind win.

Playtech offers a comprehensive betting range on Wheels of Flame, with the minimum price to play starting at €0.10 and the max stake reaching €100 a spin. However, I’m pretty sure you’ll see the top end of this stake structure limited to a lower amount at nearly all online casinos you play at.

Wheels Of Flame Slot Base Game

Wheels Of Flame Slot Base Game
Wheels of Flame slot base game

Like its predecessor, Wheels of Flame PowerPlay is played across a 5×4 reel matrix with 30 fixed paylines. Creating wins requires landing at least three matching symbols from left to right along one of those paylines. The only exception is the Phoenix symbol, which requires just two.

Flame Symbols

All regular reel symbols can appear with a flame background, and if you land three or more across a payline, you’ll trigger a spin on one of three Wheels of Flame sitting on top of the reels. You’ll receive a spin on the leftmost reel if three Flame symbols trigger the feature, the middle wheel if four, and the biggest wheel if five. The larger the wheel, the larger the prizes you can win, which are one of the following:

  • Cash prizes worth up to 500x the stake
  • A respin with up to 12 additional wild symbols added to the reels
  • A spin on the next wheel along
  • Up to 50 free spins

Feature Bet

While there’s no buy bonus on the Wheels of Fire PowerPlay Jackpot, there is a Feature Bet option. For double the cost of your current spin bet, you can double your chance of triggering the free spins bonus.

Wheels Of Flame Slot Bonus Features

Wheels Of Flame Slot Free Spins Feature

You’ve probably noticed, but one of the prizes the Wheels of Flame could trigger is the free spins bonus. The small wheel could award between 5 and 8, the middle wheel between 8 and 12, and the biggest wheel could give you 12, 24, or 50 free spins.

Free Spins Feature

The free spins bonus is a little disappointing, as no extra features or bonuses are included that can’t be triggered in the base game. In essence, you just get some spins without paying for them, although it does feel like the wheels trigger more frequently when this feature is active.

Powerplay Jackpots

As I stated in the introduction of this review, the main reason for playing this slot is to have the chance to win one of the three progressive jackpots on the PowerPlay network. A small percentage of wagers placed on this slot will contribute to the pooled jackpots until they’re won and reset. The two smaller jackpots must pay out before a certain milestone, but the Mega can, theoretically, grow infinitely. The jackpots trigger randomly, so no input is required, and there’s no bonus game to play or any sequence of symbols required.

  • Mini Jackpot: Must payout before it reaches €200.
  • Peak Jackpot: Must payout before it reaches €3,000.
  • Mega Jackpot: Seeds at €20,000 and continues to grow until won.

Pros

  • The Wild Jockey Respins feature offers a brief break from monotomy.

Cons

  • In short, boring and unimaginative.

Wheels Of Flame Slot Review Final Thoughts

We've seen Blueprint and Relax upgrade many of their older titles so that they include their jackpot feature, and now that's precisely what we are seeing more of from Playtech. If you liked the original version of Wheels of Flame and want to be in with a shot of winning a life-changing amount of money, then you'll want to try your luck on this one.
