The quiz show Who Wants to be a Millionaire has proven to be a successful franchise in many countries around the world, which would later lead to slot developer Big Time Gaming capitalising on this popularity and making their own Megaways™ slot version of this game back in 2018. Fast forward to 2021 and a brand new jackpot mechanic from BTG and we have the revamped and repackaged Who Wants to be a Millionaire Megapays ready for you to play. Step back into the famous studio along with the bright lights and nerve racking music as you aim for the biggest payday of all.
The paytable of the slot remains the same as the original, so you’ll find the royal symbols 9, 10, J, Q, K, and Ace making up the lower values. Representing the premium symbols we have the green gem, blue gem, red gem, and diamond, where a 6 of a kind win will pay players 2x, 2x, 7.5x, and 50x respectively. Keep a look out for the multicoloured wild symbol that appears on the bottom escalating reel only. This will substitute for all other game symbols bar the scatter.

Cascading Reels
An integral part of both the base game and the free spin feature, the cascading reels engine will activate on Millionaire Megapays when a win has been created from left to right on the reels. In the first instance the winning symbols will explode and the game will remove them from the reels. New symbols will then drop down from above to fill the spaces that this has created, and bring with them additional chances to win, or maybe even a feature trigger.
Hot Seat Free Spin Feature Gamble
Players can find themselves in the legendary hot seat on Millionaire Megapays™ by landing 3 scatter symbols in view. This will start you off at the 8 free spins position on the board, with each scatter symbol that lands thereafter moving you an additional 1 position up the ladder. True to the gameshow and the original Megaways™ version of this title, you can gamble your way up the ladder if you’d like to through the random lifelines, one of which will be randomly chosen for you at the start of each gamble. These are as follows:
- 50/50: Two incorrect answers will be removed
- Phone a Friend: The most likely answer will be highlighted
- Ask the Audience: All answers will have a percentage shown underneath them
Players should note that you can walk away at any time and begin the free spin feature in you choose. There are also safe points on the board where if you reach these totals you can’t be awarded an amount less than that if you lose. These are 10, 20, and 50 free spins.
Once your starting free spin total has been decided, the bonus round will begin with a win multiplier of x1 in play. Every successful win reaction that is achieved during the free spins will cause the multiplier to increment by a further x1. This has the potential to reach a very high amount, as there are no limits in place as to what this multiplier can reach. Players may be awarded additional spins via the lower escalating reel. This is the only place during the bonus that the scatter symbols can appear, with 3 in view awarding 4 extra spins, whilst 4 in view will add a further 8 free spins to your current total.
Millionaire Megapays Jackpot Bonus Round
Generally the whole reason to play this slot rather than the original is because of the Megapays™ Jackpot Bonus. This can randomly trigger on any spin in the base game, and it’s very noteworthy that you don’t have to be playing on a high stake for this bonus to trigger. Upon activation of the bonus you will be awarded a lower value symbol at random, which will be your symbol for the jackpot game.
You’re then transported to the outside of the famous Bellagio Casino where a 6×7 reel set will spin, with the aim being to land as many of your symbols in view as possible. Each spin where one of your symbols does land in view will move you one position up the jackpot ladder and you will receive another spin. The bonus will end when you reach the top of the ladder, or fail to land a symbol in view.
These jackpots are progressive so they could very well be at a large amount depending of course on the last time that they were won. I’ve added below the amount of symbols you will need to land in view to win the corresponding jackpot.

It made absolute sense for BTG to add the Megapays™ mechanic to WWTBAM next. It’s a perfect fit for the jackpot engine and a game that has held it’s popularity since its 2018 release. If you’re new to online slots and just like the look of the game and you’re not really bothered about a jackpot, then play the original instead. The lower RTP in the base game and free spins makes it a bit of pointless exercise in playing this slot otherwise.
Overall it’s a good 2nd addition to the Megapays™ catalogue of slots, and now that BTG have followed up on the release of Bonanza Megapays™, I expect to see a flurry of other games added to this niche.
