Wild Hop And Drop Slot Theme, Stakes, Pays & Symbols
Pragmatic Play has it bang on with the title of this slot; the phrase “Wild Hop & Drop” somehow made me think of frogs immediately, and sure enough, when the slot machine loaded, the reels were filled with frogs! Am I prescient? Or is the name of the game simply blatantly obvious? You might be surprised by how many online slots have been based around frogs before; CORE Gaming released a machine named “Frog of Fortune” a while back, but they were merely following a trend! It won’t surprise experienced slots players to hear that IGT was one of the first developers to create a frog-themed machine with the release of their “Frog Princess” game nearly two decades ago! There is Playtech’s Frog’s Gift slot too, and Thunderkick’s Frog Grog – it really is quite unusual that there are so many games out there based on such a tiny animal.
It’s sometimes difficult to give an overview of the paytable when reviewing a grid slot, as there is a wide variety of payouts attached to every symbol. It feels a little bit easier today, however, as Pragmatic Play has included just three high-paying symbols in their Wild Hop & Drop online slot. Our green frog friend will pay you 200x your current stake for the maximum possible configuration of 26 or more adjacent symbols. However, that feels incredibly unlikely, considering that the entire grid consists of just 36 positions. A more reasonable collection of 17-21 green frogs will pay you 24x your current bet, but I didn’t even manage a single cluster of that size whilst I was testing this game. The purple frog will pay you 100x the bet for 26+ or 16x for 17-21, whilst the blue frog is even lower at 60x or 12x for the same number of adjacent symbols. The wild symbol has no pays attached to it unless you should happen to land the maximum 6×6 block, in which case the game will give you its maximum jackpot and retreat – I guess this is a machine that knows when it has been beaten! Four royal symbols make up the bottom half of the paytable, whilst the bonus scatters have no payout attached to them at all.
The familiar Pragmatic Play wager selection setup is all present and correct, of course – hit the plus and minus buttons on either side of the spin control, and a new window pops up, giving you more granular control. The minimum bet is €0.20 per round, whilst the maximum feels like plenty at €100.00 per spin.
Base Game & Modifiers
Wild Hop & Drop utilises a 6×6 layout for its base gameplay, but as this is a grid slot, there are no conventional pay ways or pay lines to be found here. Instead, wins are awarded for hitting six or more adjacent matching symbols anywhere on the layout, with the biggest wins reserved for clusters of 26 or more matching symbols. However, such a combination must be exceedingly rare, even for the lower-paying symbols.
Expanding Wild Modifier
The wild symbol can appear as either a regular symbol or a 2×2, 3×3, 4×4, 5×5, or 6×6 block. The wild has no payout of its own unless it lands in the maximum 6×6 configuration.
Wild Hop And Drop Slot Bonus Features
Bonus symbols appear on all six reels, and you will need to hit at least four of them at once to trigger yourself a free spins bonus round. The feature will always begin with six free spins, but you receive a slight boost if five or six bonus symbols trigger the feature – see below for details.
During this mode, a single-position wild symbol is always visible on the reel set and will move from place to place between your free spins. Whenever a bonus symbol lands during the free spin feature, it will be collected and stored until all of your free spins have been used.
Every four bonus symbols that you collect will award a re-trigger. Each time one of these is awarded, the wild will grow from 1×1 to 2×2, to 3×3, and so forth, as well as rewarding you with some additional free spins of up to 3 in value. Five re-triggers will guarantee that you will get a 6×6 wild at the beginning of your next spin, which rewards you the maximum prize of 5,000x your bet!
Triggering this feature with five bonus symbols will add one bonus symbol to the meter before the feature begins. A six-symbol trigger will start the feature with two bonus symbols already added to the meter.
Bonus Buy
For a cost of 100x the current stake, you can bypass the base game and go straight to the free spin bonus round. These features are not allowed in some jurisdictions, such as those controlled by the UKGC, but if the feature is available, you get a slight RTP boost and the chance to see the best part of the game without waiting. A fair deal at 100x, in my opinion, but don’t be tempted to chase your losses in this part of the game!

Pragmatic Play never lets us down, do they? Wild Hop & Drop is a high-quality grid slot that is every bit as good as those released by Play’N’Go. The number of great slots released in the second half of 2022 is simply staggering, but this is another one you must add to your list of games to try!
