The basic feature set is typical Megaways fare – the game uses six reels, dividing into a random number of rows on each game round. In addition, wild symbols appear on reels two through five and act as the games’ bonus-triggering scatter symbols. Wild Turkey Megaways Slot Theme, Stakes, Pays & Symbols
I was intrigued as to why Red Tiger had begun to release updates to many of NetEnt’s most popular franchises until recently – Blood Suckers Megaways being a notable example – but it seems that I was a little slow on the uptake on this one! See, NetEnt acquired Red Tiger in September 2019, and, more recently, Evolution Gaming took a controlling stake in NetEnt, effectively creating a ‘super brand’ that now controls a rather significant portion of the entire online casino industry. There’s significant consolidation going on in all sectors of the industry right now, actually – but that’s a story for another time.
All of the high-value symbols on the paytable of Wild Turkey Megaways are represented by elaborately decorated turkeys – at least, I think that’s what they are. I’m not sure what else would make sense! The red ones are worth 3x the total bet for a full payway of six of a kind, whilst the orange ones will get you 1.5x for all six symbols. The payouts continue to drop quickly after this – the green variety is worth just 1.2x for a complete pay way, whilst the blue return 0.9x, and the grey/silver will bag you 0.8x for a six of a kind combination. Finally, there are five more low pays – six aces are worth 0.6x, six kings or queens pay 0.5x, and six jacks or tens will pay 0.4x each. Sadly, the wild symbols do not have a premium attached to them, but even with the 3x payout of the highest-paying regular symbol, you can still win a lot of money with 117,649 payways.
As ever, you never know what you will get with the betting range of a Red Tiger/Netent game – this one allows you to wager between €0.10 and €10.00 per spin in demo play, and these limits seem likely to apply to real money mode as well.
Base Game & Modifiers
Whilst there are numerous similarities between this game and the original Wild Turkey – the scatters doubling as the wild symbols for one – Red Tiger seems to have focused on just creating another generic Megaways slot more than anything else here. Because the wild symbols can only appear on reels two, three, four, and five, you’ll need to land full stacks of matching symbols on reels one and six to make a full 117,649 payway win a possibility. Whilst such a thing is, of course, theoretically possible, I’d be willing to guess that the odds of such an event are on the order of many tens of billions to one.
Wild Symbols
There are two types of wilds on the reels of Wild Turkey Megaways – the scatter wild and the wild turkey. The wild turkey symbol can only appear as a result of activation of the Wild Turkey feature – see the next section for details. The scatter wild symbol substitutes for all symbols and counts as the symbol which forms the longest winning combination on a single pay way.
Cascading Reels
Each time a winning combo is achieved, all symbols from that win will explode and be removed from the reels. New symbols will then fall from above for extra chances to win.
Wild Turkey Megaways Slot Bonus Features
Three scatter wilds landing simultaneously or collected during a series of cascades will award five free spins. There does not appear to be any benefit to hitting all four possible scatter wilds, unfortunately.
Wild Turkey Feature
The Wild Turkey feature can activate during both the base game and free spins and will transform all high-value symbols into wild turkey symbols. Unfortunately, the wild turkey symbol does not act as a scatter, but it does substitute for all other paying symbols and will count as the symbol that forms the longest winning combination on all active payways.
Free Spins
During free spins, scatter wilds can appear in full stacks – any time such a stack occupies the entirety of a reel, two additional free spins will be added to your remaining counter. In this mode, the wild turkey feature activates more frequently than during the base game.
Pros
- A worthy update to a classic slot.
- Wild Turkey Megaways retains the joint scatter/wild symbol feature of the original, which was probably the main reason I enjoyed it so much. A definite plus!
- An excellent jackpot of over 10,500x the total bet.
Cons
- Only five free spins per bonus trigger feel slightly on the tight side – even if they are valuable free spins!
- Wild symbols not appearing on reels one and six make huge wins much less likely.
Final Thoughts
If you never played the original Wild Turkey, then don’t miss out this time around – Megaways games can be a little bit monotonous at times nowadays, but this one is a winner!
