Wilds Of The West Slot (Relax Gaming) Slot Demo & Review

Picture the scene – you ride your horse into yet another dusty town on the American Frontier, only this one seems different… the people here seem happy! Money seems easy around here – I guess the gold rush is in full swing right now. What better place to get your gold coins out, head down to the saloon, and play some slots? Okay, maybe not the last part – they didn’t exist yet, after all – but you sure could play poker. Just make sure your 45 is never out of arms reach! Wilds of the West is a six-reel machine operating on the Relax Gaming platform sporting 4,096 payways, a 95.97% RTP, and a maximum win of 5,000x bet.

With a name like “Wilds of the West,” we expect to see plenty of wild-based features, and Silverback has not disappointed. All wilds become locked for some number of spins whenever they land, potentially as many as five, meaning you could theoretically get a whole load of wilds active on screen at once! A Free spins bonus is included, too, along with a gamble feature and a bonus buy facility.

So, does this sound like your kind of town? Our free demo slot of Wilds of the West should help you make your mind up in no time!

Wilds Of The West Slot Paytable
Wilds of the West slot paytable

The Wild West has been a popular theme in online slots ever since NetEnt first released their legendary Dead or Alive slot way back in… wow, it must be getting on for 20 years now. It truly is a testament to the quality of that game that we still refer to every time the Wild West comes up all these years later. Games such as Outlaw Saloon and Wild Showdown are significant contributions to the genre, but I’d still rather play Dead or Alive than either of them. Could Silverback’s new game be the one to tempt me away from my all-time favourite Wild West game? Let’s find out!

With any game with thousands of payways, I’ve learned to temper my expectations regarding the paytable. The mean-looking cowboy at the top of the ladder is worth 1.2x your stake for a complete pay way of six-of-a-kind, for example, while the older man and the good-looking female will each pay you 0.8x your bet for all six of their symbols. Surprisingly, these are the only three picture symbols on the table – the remaining five are straightforward royals ranging from 10 to Ace, with returns of between 0.16x and 0.6x for whole pay ways of six-of-a-kind.

The betting range starts at a sensible €0.25 per spin, maxing out at €100.00 for each round. That’s fine, despite my reservations about spinning slots at €100.00 every couple of seconds. However, there may be a problem because there are only nine possible bets, just seven between the two extremes.

Base Game & Modifiers

Wilds of the West slot base game

Base game action utilises a large-format playfield with six reels of four rows each. All symbols appear in stacked configurations, which potentially explains the low number of unique images that appear on the reels. The game will award winnings for any combination with at least three matching symbols starting from the left, with more considerable payouts reserved for combinations of four, five, or six symbols.

Wild Modifier

Whenever a wild symbol lands, it will be assigned a random number of spins between three and five, for which it will become sticky and remain locked in place. For the following spins (paid spins – these are not free spins or re-spins), the wilds will stay on the screen, replacing other line symbols and creating more significant wins.

There is no limit to the number of persistent wild symbols you can collect on the screen at once. The paytable points out that it is easily possible to fill the reel set with plenty of wilds with a bit of luck, guaranteeing big payouts on all subsequent spins.

Gamble Feature

This isn’t a typical gamble feature but will instead give you the chance to risk your winnings for the opportunity to boost them up to the cost of a bonus buy feature. I’m not sure if this is permissible under UKGC rules – I’ll be making sure to find out, though, as if this represents a loophole of sorts, you can bet that many other developers will be using it very soon!

Wilds Of The West Slot Bonus Features

Wilds Of The West Slot Free Spins Feature
Wilds of the West slot free spins feature

Three Gold Cart symbols will trigger ten free spins; it isn’t clear if you can hit more than three gold carts, but I never saw that occur during my testing, so I suspect that they only appear on three of the game’s six reels.

Free Spins

During this mode, any wilds locked before the bonus round will remain in place for the duration of the feature. Furthermore, any additional wilds that appear during the bonus round will also become locked until the end of the free spins session. This makes the feature quite similar to the one offered in Dead or Alive, but the much lower numbers on the paytable mean that you couldn’t possibly win as much from this game as you could from NetEnts timeless classic.

Bonus Buy

At the cost of just 88x the regular price per spin, I’d call this bonus buy facility a real bargain! Sadly, many jurisdictions prohibit such facilities, but if you can take advantage of this option, I would recommend doing so!

Wilds Of The West Slot Review Final Thoughts

Ah, Silverback, if only you had allocated a little more RTP to those payline wins, I’d be thrilled with you. As it stands, I feel like you are so close, yet so far, with Wilds of the West – I really hope that a sequel is on the cards in the future!
