Game Overview
I wouldn’t be surprised if slot players become tired of Halloween-themed slots before the event even arrives at this rate! Slot developers are going crazy for these types of games this year. Still, on a positive note, it seems that cloning your previous games to make them Halloween-centric is out of fashion in 2022, with many developers coming up with brand new games to satisfy players desire for a spooky-themed slots experience. Witch Feature from GONG Gaming is a 50-payline game with a 95.85% RTP, and I wasn’t able to find any mention of a maximum winnings cap; fill your boots then, it seems! Or your witch’s hat, as the case may be!
The game features several potion symbols, and each combination of these will have a different effect on the features, which will be applied to the symbols visible on the current spin. These are modifiers, effectively, but require you to land specific symbols to trigger them rather than the more usual random implementation. If you land a combination of potions that does not have a specified effect, the game will award you a random modifier, which is a nice touch. A free spins bonus round is also included, where potion modifiers occur much more regularly than during the base game.
Think you have the best potion-mixing abilities that witchcraft can supply? Then put your money where your mouth is with our free demo slot of Witch Feature, available below!
Witch Feature Slot Theme, Stakes, Pays & Symbols
Witches got a raw deal in previous centuries; even if you weren’t a witch, all it took was one of your horrible neighbours to claim you were a witch, and you could have found yourself subjected to the ducking stool – a death sentence by any other measure – or worse still, being burnt at the stake! Thankfully, these days fans of witchcraft can enjoy online slots such as Rags to Witches, Witch Treasures, or Witches Cash Collect without fear of being called a heretic and killed for no reason. Yep, we sure have come a long way since the dark ages, haven’t we!
And how does it pay? Well, our witch lady friend will pay you 6x your bet for a full payline of five-of-a-kind, whilst her lovely looking (white) cat will pay you 4x for all five. What happened to her black cat? Let’s hope he didn’t end up in the cauldron, eh! This witch keeps an owl for a pet too, and he’s worth 2.8x your bet for all five of his symbols. The witches spell book is worth 2x for a complete pay line of five-of-a-kind, and her technologically-advanced method of transport – a broomstick – will pay you 1.6x, which seems awfully low considering the rarity of such objects, but alas, it is what it is, I guess! Oh! I almost forgot! The wild symbol will pay you 20x your current bet for a full pay line of five-of-a-kind, which is a decent premium over the highest paying regular symbol.
Betting options start at €0.50 per spin, which isn’t too bad, but could be a little high for those with smaller bankrolls. You can also bet as much as €80.00 per spin if you’ve been busy conjuring up money with your witching magic but be prepared to suffer through hitting the “plus” button many times to reach this number; it’s not very quick either. I’d probably get bored of clicking my way up there if I was a high roller… thankfully, I’m not!
Base Game & Modifiers
The base game takes place on a 5×4 playfield, and you’ll be sure to notice the four “cards” displayed above the reel set, indicating what modifiers are currently active based on the potion combinations which are currently active.
Each time you land a potion, it will drop into the pot below the reels and fill in a spot on the currently active card above the reels before a free re-spin is awarded. Fill up a card, and the next card along will be unlocked, enabling you the chance to score bigger wins on your next re-spin. Sadly, these cards are reset between paid spins unless you are currently in the bonus round.
High Symbols Respin Modifier
The first modifier will remove all low-paying symbols from the reels, increasing your potential for bigger wins.
Random Wilds Respin Modifier
Unlocking the second modifier card will add several random wild symbols to the reels for the next re-spin, once again increasing your winning potential.
Multiplier Respin Modifier
It takes a lot of luck to unlock this third card, but I did manage it on a handful of occasions and was impressed with the results! On your next re-spin, a random multiplier of 2x, 3x, 5x, 8x, or 10x will be applied to your total winnings, dramatically improving the value of your winnings.
Mega Wild Respin Modifier
This one I never saw in action during testing, but the paytable states that your next re-spin will include jumbo sized wild symbols of either 2×2 or 3×3 in size. These symbols will also remain sticky for the following re-spin, meaning you get two big wins for the prize of one. Bargain!
Witch Feature Slot Bonus Features
A special free spins bonus symbol appears on reels one and five only, and hitting both of these on a single spin will trigger ten free spins. Let’s delve into the feature in more detail below.
Free Spins
During this mode, a potion feature will activate on every single free spin. Hitting another free spin symbol on either reel one or five whilst this bonus round is in play will award one additional free spin to your remaining counter.
Catch a free spin symbol on both reels one and five simultaneously, and the game will award a full re-trigger of ten further free spins. There is no limit to the number of re-triggers you can hit, although I only achieved a single re-trigger once while I was playing the game.
Witch Feature Slot Review Final Thoughts
Witch Feature is a solid Halloween themed online slot with plenty of big win potential, although you do need a hell of a lot of luck to unlock all four of the modifier cards for a shot at the biggest wins in the base game. Thankfully, the bonus round allows you to experience all four modifiers without having to score half a dozen or more consecutive wins; it’s just a shame that there isn’t a bonus buy facility to make it a little easier to see the best parts of the game without spending a great deal of time and money.
