It’s probably best to avoid spending too much time watching the news these days; it’s a constant flow of doom and gloom, and, in fairness, the world seems to be in a pretty precarious place right now. It could be argued that mass civil unrest and anarchy aren’t too far around the corner if we continue along the current trajectory, and developer Thunderkick has delivered their version of what that could look like through their new release, Xterminate. It’s a high volatility, six-reel slot, with a possible maximum win of 25,000x and a potentially riot-inducing RTP of just 94.12%.
Before we’re introduced to the baying crowd that occupies the smoke-filled urban backdrop to this title, we’re greeted with a pop-up warning us of its high volatility and advising that it is not for the faint-hearted. That’s quite some statement in a world of extreme volatility modern slots. This variance level, combined with the disappointing RTP, could spell trouble for people’s bankrolls; maybe that’s why everyone is so angry here. On the game 6×5 grid, matching eight or more symbols in scatter pays style is the way to win; those symbols are then removed from the screen to make room for others to cascade down. There is no conventional bonus round to play for, but several features have been incorporated in an attempt to counteract this.
You have to wonder, is all the fuss about the volatility level here genuine, or is it a clever publicity stunt? Gamblers are naturally drawn towards the fun of risk-taking, and if Thunderkick is to be believed, the danger level of spinning away on this title is pretty extreme. Xterminate Slot Theme, Stakes, Pays & Symbols
Aside from the theme of general lawlessness and civil revolution portrayed in this game, the multiplier element is its main attribute. There’s nothing much more exciting than seeing a multiplier go through the roof on a slot and reaping the resulting rewards. Other titles with ridiculous multiplier potential include Hacksaw Gaming’s Chaos Crew games. Chaos Crew 2 is the most recent of those, and in its bonus round, values of up to 100x can land on the grid and be accumulated at the top of the reels before being multiplied by a value of up to 20x. Pragmatic Play’s Muertos Multiplier Megaways is also a great example of multi mayhem. It features a traditional Megaways style free spins feature, where each win increases the multiplier, but special symbols can also land, which are applied to the current total multiplier and can result in some enormous numbers. Right, I think I’ve mentioned multipliers enough times there. Is there another word for them in the English language? Not that I can think of. We’ll be shooting over to the pays section next, where our journey into exploring the features of Xterminate in greater depth will begin.
Twelve or more matching symbols landing anywhere on the screen will award each symbol’s highest possible pay value. This is only half of the story, though, as something very interesting can happen with these numbers, which we’ll explore later in this review. For now, I’ll tell you that the top symbol is the Yellow Backed Character with red laser eyes, which will return 7x the stake value for 12+ symbols, which is followed by the Gas Mask, Spiked Club, and the Spray Paint Can, which are all worth 5x. The paint cans have clearly been put to use to create the graffiti style non-premium symbols, which are the A, K, Q, J, and 10, and are all worth 3x for a winning combination of twelve or more.
Completing this section of our review, we finish with the bet selection, and we have stake options beginning at €0.10 and rising to €100.00 to work with on Xterminate. Between those extremes, over a dozen bet sizes are available to choose from, ensuring that all real players can find a value that suits their style of play.
Xterminate Slot Base Game
Breaking down the game mechanics, we can see that Xterminate uses a 6×5 grid, and wins are achieved in scatter pays style, requiring a minimum of eight of the same symbol to land in any position on the screen. Any symbols involved in a winning combination are removed from the grid, allowing additional symbols to cascade down through the tumbling reels mechanic.
Multiplier
The paytable value of any initial winning combination in a spin will be added to the Xterminate multiplier, displayed at the top of the reels. The value of any subsequent win during that spin will then multiply the Xterminate multiplier by itself and be added to the total multiplier. For example, if the Xterminate multiplier value is currently x12, a winning combination of x4 will produce a new Xterminate multiplier value of x60 ((4 x 12) +12). The final value of this multiplier will then be applied to the current stake value and paid as a win at the end of the spin.
Charged Wilds
One or more charged wild symbols may land on the grid on any spin and will substitute for any paytable symbol. Each one will have either one, two, or three lives attached to it, which signifies how many winning cascades they can be part of before being removed from the screen. Charged Wild symbols are protected when a Bomb symbol explodes.
Bomb Symbol
When a Bomb symbol is present on the reels and no winning combinations are present, it will explode, removing all symbols other than Charged Wilds, other Bomb symbols, and a paytable symbol with the highest presence on the screen. If multiple paytable symbols are equally common in terms of their number on the screen, only the highest paying of those will be retained.
The avalanche feature will then be triggered, which sees additional symbols cascade in from the top of the grid to fill any empty spaces. If more than one Bomb symbol is present, additional ones will be held and will only activate one at a time once no further winning combinations can be formed.
Xterminate Slot Bonus Features
There might not be a specific bonus feature on Xterminate, but players can increase their chances of activating the multiplier feature by using the bet+ feature, as explained below.

Xterminate Slot Review Final Thoughts
Xterminate is a very great looking slot with Chaos Crew vibes that has some very interesting features. The multiplier mechanic is the pick of those and can quickly rise to a huge height once a run of winning combinations is formed. This element is complimented well by the Bomb and Charged Wild symbols, which help keep those runs going. We were warned that the volatility level was high, which is noticeable whilst playing the game, with long spells of non-winning spins. The options on offer in the Bet+ menu offset that somewhat, bringing more action to the surface, but a substantial cost is attached to that. The lack of a bonus game is a shame, but it won’t bother all players. However, the low RTP level is unforgivable and something that I’m fed up with seeing.
