Zombie Carnival Slot (Pragmatic Play) Slot Demo & Review

The first zombie movie – White Zombie – was released all the way back in 1932, although its stars were a little bit different to the zombies that we know and love today! The modern “brain-eating” zombie era arguably began with the release of Night of the Living Dead in 1968, changing the face of horror forever. After more than 50 years in the limelight, Pragmatic Play has decided to mark the occasion with Zombie Carnival – a 4,096 payway game with a 96.50% RTP and a top win of 5,000x the players’ stake.

The game features mystery symbols that work identically to those present in many other games. At the end of each spin, all visible mystery symbols will transform into one paying symbol chosen randomly from the paytable. The scatters are slightly more interesting, as you only need two to trigger six free spins. Most online slots require at least three scatter symbols to award a bonus round, which suggests that Zombie Carnival’s feature will probably be a little less generous. The relatively low cost (80x the total bet) of the bonus buy facility further supports that view, in my opinion.

Everybody loves a carnival – there’s always so much going on. So you can bet there’s never a dull moment in this Pragmatic slot, that’s for sure! Find out for yourself with our free demo slot of Zombie Carnival, available to play below.

Zombie Carnival Slot Paytable

Whenever I check out a new zombie-themed online slot, I always mention The Walking Dead and its less than satisfying conclusion. Can you tell I’m a little salty about that? I should probably try to be more positive – I’ve heard that the recent television adaptation of the smash-hit video game The Last of Us is well worth a watch! As for online slots, we recently checked out Stakelogic’s Spartans vs Zombies; a good release, for sure, but probably not one that will go on to become an all-time classic. Can Pragmatic Play do any better with this release? Spoiler Alert: I have my doubts…

I’m not entirely sure how to describe the misfits that feature on Zombie Carnival’s paytable – I think they’re all supposed to look like characters from horror films, so I’m embarrassed to say that I can only name one of them! The highest-paying symbol is a clown that looks a little like IT, worth 5x the total bet for a full payway of six of a kind. The freaky-looking guy in a tiny top hat has a payout of 3x for all six of his symbols, whilst the big blue monster can earn you up to 2x your bet for a complete pay way. Finally, the last high-paying character is a googly-eyed guy who looks suspiciously like your nosey neighbour (come on, you know he does!) and has a return of 1.5x the total stake. Last up; four royals make up the low-paying section of the paytable, all of which share equal returns of 0.7x for a six-of-a-kind combination.

Many games that feature a 6×4 playfield with 4,096 payways insist on a relatively large minimum bet, but that isn’t the case here. The lowest accepted wager is just €0.20 per spin, whilst those with larger bankrolls can play any multiple of €0.20 up to the maximum limit of €100.00.

Base Game & Modifiers

Zombie Carnival Slot Base Game
Zombie Carnival slot base game

Zombie Carnival is a 4,096-payway machine that utilises a large playfield with six columns of four rows each. All symbols pay from left to right on adjacent reels starting from the leftmost reel and require at least three matches to award a win.

Features are a little bit thin on the ground here, at least during the base game – so much for there never being a dull moment! On the plus side, the free spins are relatively easy to trigger, so you do get to see them quite frequently.

Mystery Symbols

Special symbols are present on all six reels during the base game and the free spins feature. These ‘mystery symbols’ take the appearance of a gift-wrapped present and will all transform into one of the paying symbols at the end of the current round.

Zombie Carnival Slot Bonus Features

Zombie Carnival Slot Free Spins Feature
Zombie Carnival slot free spins feature

Bonus scatter symbols appear on reels two, three, four, and five. You only need to land two of these at once to trigger the free spins feature, but your chances of scoring a big win are directly tied to the number of triggering scatters.

Free Spins

At the start of each bonus round, all of the triggering scatter symbols will transform into wilds that remain on the screen for the duration of the feature. This is also the only part of the game where wild symbols are present on the main reels as well.

Six free spins are awarded at the start of the feature, with one additional free spin being added to your remaining total for every scatter symbol that lands during the bonus round.

Any scatters that do land will usually be ‘consumed’ by a nearby wild symbol before the next spin commences; when this occurs, the wilds multiplier value is increased by 1x. If more scatters land than there are wilds to consume them, the scatter will transform into an additional sticky wild symbol.

Bonus Buy

If you aren’t having much luck with the base game, why not skip straight to the free spins feature using the bonus buy facility? The buy-in price is just 80x the normal cost per spin, which seems like a relatively low price to pay to reach the most profitable part of the game.

Zombie Carnival Slot Review Final Thoughts

I had high hopes for this one – I’m a huge fan of zombie movies and horror in general, and I always get a good chuckle when the tone is more satirical than serious! As hard as I tried, I just couldn’t get very enthusiastic about Zombie Carnival – the base game is average at best, and whilst the free spins feature is certainly much better, the relatively low maximum win of 5,000x seems hugely unfair in this case.
