Merlins Revenge Megaways Slot Theme, Stakes, Pays & Symbols
The Twisted Tale franchise from iSoftBet is based on the legendary King Arthur and his Knights of the Round Table. The developer is releasing new games which expand on the story if you are bothered enough to look at those parts of the Merlins Revenge Megaways video slot. The challenge of integrating a story into an online slot has received a lot of attention recently – developers are trying to understand the best way to tell a story without interrupting the flow of the primary activity of gambling. Funnily enough, the one game that I believe got this right was Avalon 2 – another game based on the legend of King Arthur!
Let’s check out the paytable – sometimes Megaways games can be a bit predictable in this area, so I was hoping to see a different math model in use here. After comparing the payouts to another Megaways slot, I noticed there are a few tweaks here and there, but nothing major. The scatter symbols have no payout attached, but you do receive additional free spins for each extra scatter that lands above the minimum trigger of three. The bonus symbols award 8, 10, 14, or 20 free spins for 3, 4, 5, or 6 scatters respectively. The wild also has no payout specified on the paytable, so I would expect a full pay way of six-of-a-kind to return the same amount as six merlin symbols. The Merlin symbol pays 10x your stake for six-of-a-kind and is the highest return on the table. It may not sound like much, but remember that 117,649 maximum number of pay ways! This slot is capable of dropping some epic wins on occasion, despite what may seem like a very low top symbol. After Merlin we have… umm, Merlin’s Magic Stones I guess? These high-paying picture symbols return 4x, 2x, and 1.5x your stake, after which you are down to the royal symbols.
Bets are selected by choosing a coin size between €0.01 and €1.00. You then multiply your coin size by 20 to determine your actual stake. Effectively, this means you can bet anywhere from €0.20 to €20.00 on Merlins Revenge Megaways video slot. These seem like very fair minimum and maximum bets to me. Fair play, iSoftBet!
Base Game & Modifiers

Like many other Megawys titles, winning symbols will be removed from the stack immediately, allowing new symbols to cascade from above the reels. The new symbols can award further wins if they happen to land in just the right spot. This can continue indefinitely, allowing you to win many times from a single spin.
The more pay ways you have, the more likely you are to win, and the larger your win is likely to be. At the same time, more pay ways do not GUARANTEE you will hit an epic win – even when you have the maximum number in play.
Mystery Symbol Feature
A green orb symbol will sometimes appear in large numbers on the reels. Once the spin has completed, these green orbs will all transform into the same paying symbol. Sometimes it will be the picture symbols, whilst others it will just be royals. It appears as if the symbol that is chosen could be determined – to a certain extent – by what is already on screen. This is just speculation, however, so take it with a pinch of salt.
Merlins Magic Feature
This mod will only activate at the end of a losing spin – I saw it quite a few times during testing, but not as many times as I would have hoped. That’s probably just slot players being slot players though, isn’t it! Merlin will either rearrange your symbols into something that awards a win or occasionally you will be taken to the bonus round instead. I only got taken to the bonus round by Merlin twice during testing, but I feel that is probably about right considering the length of time I spent playing the game.
Max Megaways Feature
This can be an exciting one – Merlin will use his powers to guarantee a screen full of 117,649 pay ways. That means 7 symbols on all six reels. The paytable does not state that this mod will guarantee you a win, but each time I saw this activate I did end up with a win or some kind – sometimes they were extremely low, however.

Finally, let’s talk about that all-important free spin feature. We mentioned earlier that the scatters will award 8, 10, 14, or 20 free spins for 3, 4, 5, or 6 scatters respectively, but what else is there to talk about? Let’s take a look:
Free Spin Gamble Feature
If you hit anything less than all six scatters you will be given a chance to win additional free spins before your bonus starts using what looks like a pie gamble wheel. Unfortunately, this isn’t a traditional pie gamble – each bet you make only gets you one free spin, and making your way from 8 to 20 would be borderline impossible if my experience of this feature is anything to go by.
The paytable does state that the red sections on the wheel are a true representation of the odds to win that next free spin. It almost seems too easy – the red bits are tiny. Strangely, I managed to hit them with alarming regularity during testing. Remember, just one loss means you lose your entire bonus round. I would stay away from this feature if I were you!
Merlins Free Spins Feature
The free spins work differently from many other Megaways titles – you need to collect certain symbols during the feature to win extra free spins and guarantee additional Megaways on the following spins. For example, your first task is to collect 20 Jack symbols, which gives you 4 more free spins. Next, you will need 20 Tens, and once you have collected those another 4 spins will be added to your count as well as 500 Megaways being guaranteed on all subsequent spins. This continues throughout all of the games paying symbols, meaning you can end up receiving a total of 47 free spins from collecting all of the correct symbols. It’s a great fun feature that feels fresh and adds an interesting twist to the typical Megawayss bonus round formula.
Bonus Buy Feature
The bonus buy feature may not be permitted in your jurisdiction – several countries are clamping down on this kind of bet because they believe that it is not right to bet so much on one single event on a slot machine. What is the difference between playing a couple of hundred spins to get a bonus, or just hitting this button and paying 80x your stake to have a bonus guaranteed? It makes zero sense.
The price of 80x your stake in Merlins Revenge Megaways online slot is very fair in my opinion and is lower than many other Megaways titles. I would definitely use this feature if my country allowed it!

It’s difficult to argue with the quality on show here – Merlins Revenge Megaways is an amazing looking game. The presentation is AAA grade, the game runs smoothly on every device I tried it on, and the bonus round is a tonne of fun as well. It’s such a shame that many players cannot use the bonus buy feature… this is not iSoftBet’s fault of course, so it cannot affect my verdict on this game.
