Sands Of Destiny (Yggdrasil Gaming) Slot Demo & Review

I think we’ve trawled through just about every ancient tomb and pyramid in Egypt by now, and we’ve probably done some of them over and over, but here we are back in the surroundings we know all too well with Peter & Son’s latest slot release, Sands of Destiny. Done in the well-known artistic style we know and love from the developer, Sands of Destiny is a 6×4 slot with an initial 4,096 ways to win that could expand up to 8×5 and a mind-blowing 390,625 ways to win. The slot carries a 96.3% RTP, a high variance, and a potential max win of 10,000x.

Sands of Destiny is centred around those reel expansions, with new reels unlocked for every consecutive Eye of Ra symbol that lands on the reels. Each instance expands the reels, triggers a re-spin, and if another Eye of Ra hits as a result, the process continues. Additionally, if that symbol lands on the same spin as an Eye of Horus, the Eye of Ra and Horus feature kicks into action by delivering a 2-reel-sized wild symbol and adding up to three additional wilds with multipliers of up to 2x. On top of that, a scatter pays meter rewards prizes of up to 10,000x your stake if enough scatter symbols land on the same spin.

Want to see how those features combine to potentially bring up to 10,000x the stake your way? Then, the Sands of Destiny slot demo below will give you that ability without requiring you to risk real money.

If you can bank on anything in life, it’s that you’ll always find an Egyptian slot you’ve yet to play when scrolling through an online casino lobby. There are so many of them, and as you can see from this release, more are launched almost weekly. I guess we have to blame some of the iGaming industry’s most popular slots of all time for that – Yes, I’m looking at you, Book of Dead and Book of Ra.

Back to Sands of Destiny, and one of the features of this slot that impressed me was that you can click on any symbol on the reels, and a pop-up will show you how much it is worth for its symbol combinations. That’s a hell of a lot quicker than checking the paytable every time. As for those symbol combos, The Yellow Character has the best payout of 1.2x the stake for 8 or more symbols, while the Green Character is the best of the rest with 0.8x. The Purple Character returns a maximum of 0.64x, and completing the premium section is the Green Character with rewards up to 0.48x. The low-value symbols are the Diamond and Club, both worth 4x the bet, whilst the Heart and Spade share equal returns of 0.36x.

When it comes to staking options, Sands of Destiny caters to all players, offering a range of bets from a minimum of €0.25 to a maximum of €50.00 per spin. This wide range ensures that every player can find their perfect wager, regardless of their budget or playing style.

Sands Of Destiny Slot Base Game

An initial base game spin starts on a 6×4 grid with 4,096 ways to win, but the grid can expand up to 8×5 with an amazing 390,625 win ways. Winning combinations are created and paid when at least three matching symbols are lined up across consecutive reels starting from the first reel.

Wilds

Wilds can only appear as part of the Eye of Ra and Horus feature, and when they land, they will either expand to fill their reels or carry a 2x win multiplier.

Cosmic Egg Scatters

This is a scatter pays mechanic that will award a win when at least three scatter symbols land anywhere in view. You’ll receive 1x, 5x, 10x, 25x, 100x, 250x, 500x, 1,000x, 2,500x, or 10,000x the stake when 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, or 12 land, respectively.

Grid Expansion Mechanic

The main selling point of the Sands of Destiny slot is, without doubt, the grid expansions that can occur. Whenever an Eye of Ra symbol hits the third reel, an additional reel is unlocked, and a respin is triggered. The first respin takes place on a 6×5 configuration, and should another Eye of Ra hit, it will expand again to 7×5, while a third time maxes out the reels at 8×5. The Grid expansions continue until a respin does not deliver a new Eye of Ra symbol or if an Eye of Horus symbol lands on the second reel.

Sands Of Destiny Slot Bonus Features

There isn’t a traditional bonus game on the Sands of Destiny slot, but there is a continuation of the grid expansion feature that unlocks all reels, adds multiplier wilds, and creates a huge wild symbol.

Eye Of Ra & Horus

Should the Eye or Ra and the Eye of Horus symbols land on the same spin on reels two and three, respectively, the Eye or Ra & Horus feature triggers. At this point, the grid expands to 8×5 in size, and the reels the symbols land on combine into one giant reel containing a huge wild symbol. Furthermore, up to three wild symbols are added to positions on the other reels holding multiplier values of up to 2x.

Bonus Buy

You can buy the Eye of Ra & Horus feature with the full reel configuration unlocked for 200x your current stake. Just click the Ankh icon to the right of the reels.

Pros

  • Unique game design as often seen with a Peter & Sons release.

Cons

  • If only there were a bonus game, it would have made a huge difference to my score.
  • Yet another Egyptian themed slot game.

Sands Of Destiny Slot Review Final Thoughts

Peter & Sons, like many other slot developers, has a unique graphical style, and you can tell straight away whenever you’re playing one of the developer's slots. I personally like Peter & Son's unique styling, and I usually enjoy most of their slots. However, the lack of a traditional bonus game is what I feel will hold Sands of Destiny back in the long run.
