Secret Of The Stones Slot (Netent) Slot Demo & Review

I don’t know the story behind NetEnt’s MAX line of online slots – perhaps somebody told the guys over there that their most popular games were lacking in the variance department, and the developers took that criticism personally?! Each game in this series takes one of NetEnt’s previous machines and turns the variance up to 11, so you’ll need to ensure you have a bumper bankroll before taking on games such as Secret of the Stones (MAX)! Note that you can opt to play the “classic” version of the game, too, if you wish, but what would be the fun in that? Classic mode offers a maximum win of 2,500x your bet, whilst the MAX variant can pay ten times as much at 25,000x the current bet! Both cases have 25 fixed paylines, and the RTP stays the same at 96.72%.

So just what are the differences between the two variants? Actually, that’s a good question! The help page explains that MAX mode offers bigger payouts, better odds of hitting the stacked wild reels, more free spins, and bigger multipliers in the bonus round Classic mode, meanwhile, states that you will win more often… they don’t exactly sell the classic mode, do they! The main free spin bonus round offers a range of unique features not available in the base game, too – check out the bonus rounds section below for full details.

If you haven’t seen any of the MAX games as yet, then you should fire up our free demo slot of Secret of the Stones (MAX) straight away – these are some seriously insane, yet fun, slot machines!

Secret Of The Stones Slot Paytable
Secret of the Stones slot paytable

In an industry overflowing with endless fruit-themed slots and rehashes of the same old franchises, it’s always fantastic to see a new machine that uses an original, unique theme. Secret of the Stones is essentially a myth and magic type of game, but it’s tough to come up with any other machines that resemble this one in any way. I guess Pragmatic Play’s title, Day of the Dead, shares a few similarities if we pretend that the stones are actually gravestones, but it’s a vague resemblance at best. The art style is a little cartoonish for my tastes, but then again, I don’t know if a more serious tone would suit the game, either. The bottom line, the presentation is excellent, the graphics look great, and the sound didn’t have me reaching for the mute button either – what more could I ask for?!

Well, I guess I could ask for some enormous line hits on the paytable! The MAX variant of the game certainly delivers this, and those are the numbers I will be listing here, as I can’t imagine many players choosing this variant because they want to play the original version of the slot! The deer will pay you 160x your bet (for reference, that’s up from 50x in the classic game) for a full payline of five of a kind, followed by the owl at 50x, the bull at 32x, the wolf at 14x, and finally the snake at 10x. The lower-paying section of the paytable includes five royals with payouts of between 2x and 6x your bet for all five symbols. It’s a shame that there are still no special prizes for the wild or scatter symbols, but I guess you can’t have everything!

Wager selection is performed using coin value and level selectors, which, when combined, allow you to bet any multiple of €0.25 between the minimum and maximum limits. At coin size €0.01, the minimum bet per spin works out as €0.25, whilst dialling up both the coin size and level to the max gives a top bet of €100.00 per round.

Base Game & Modifiers

Secret Of The Stones Slot Base Game
Secret of the Stones slot base game

The base game of Secret of the Stones (MAX) is very straightforward – the game uses a five reel, three row playfield, which is the perfect size for the 25 fixed paylines. You’ll need to hit three or more matching symbols starting from the left to score yourself a win.

I wish NetEnt had included a modifier or two to spice up the base game a little – the bonus round includes a multitude of special features, but most of your time playing this game is sure to be spent right here in the base game.

Secret Of The Stones Slot Bonus Features

Secret Of The Stones Slot Free Spins Feature

Let’s get down to business! The bonus round is where all the real action takes place in Secret of the Stones (MAX), but you’ll need to hit three or more scatter symbols to reach it! The number of triggering scatter symbols determines how many picks you can make from the stones before your bonus round begins, which makes a five-scatter trigger much more valuable than a three-scatter one. Why? Let’s check out what rewards the stones can give you.

  • Extra Free Spins: Adds three, four, five, six, or ten free spins to the initial ten awarded by default.
  • Multipliers: Increase the free spins multiplier by 1x, 2x, or 3x.
  • Wild Reels: Add a full stack of wilds to reels two, three, or four, which will be sticky for the entirety of the feature.
  • Extra Wild Symbols: The three highest-paying symbols can be turned into additional wild symbols.

With five picks, you stand a much better chance of hitting the wild reels and a couple of multipliers than you would with three picks, but even with five, you will still need lady luck on your side to pick the best possible stones! Cross your fingers for a few additional free spins, too, whilst you are at it, as the bonus cannot be re-triggered.

Secret Of The Stones Slot Review Final Thoughts

I feel I am the perfect target audience for these MAX variants! A maximum win of just 2,500x the bet doesn’t excite me, but as for 25,000x? That’s plenty, thank you! Despite its low top win, I still enjoyed the original Secret of the Stones, but I consider this MAX variant an absolute must-play. Don’t miss it!
