The fearsome gladiator Spartacus has been used as a focal point in several online slots in the past, and SG Gaming have in our opinion converted this particular theme over to the Megaways™ engine beautifully. The time period has been captured magnificently, with the sounds and graphics placing you right in the heat of the action. This is further enhanced by the game reels, which are set up on what we believe to be a gladiators shield, with the gameplay being accompanied by a thunderous score that really sets that tone and feel of the whole slot.

Cascading Reels
Arguably one the most integral parts of any Megaways™ slot is the cascading reels mechanic. SG Gaming have certainly made use of it so far in their portfolio of Megaways™ games, with it appearing in several titles that include the popular Beetlejuice Megaways™.
However, Spartacus Megaways™ takes cascading reels to a new level and brings something to the table that we have yet to witness within Megaways™. As you would normally except to see, each time winning combinations of symbols are formed on the reels they will explode and leave spaces behind them. New symbols will then drop down from above to fill the gaps that have been left behind, creating more opportunities for wins.
The new concept that we see within Spartacus Megaways™ is that with each successful cascade that is completed, one random section of the curtain will be removed. This in turn alters the format of the current reel set up and produces more active paylines. Hitting a long run of consecutive cascades with this new style can lead to some very impressive base game hits.
Spartacus Megaways Free Spin Feature
The free spin feature is triggered on Spartacus Megaways™ when 4 or more of the amphitheatre bonus scatter symbols land anywhere in view. Once the bonus has been activated you will taken to the feature wheel your free spin configuration will be awarded.
Upon entering the feature wheel you will see that the upper wheel consists of curtain configurations, whilst the lower wheel is responsible for awarding you the amount of free spins that you will begin the bonus with.
Ideally you would like to see a curtain configuration that leaves as much of the reels as visible as possible. This is because during the bonus round successful reel cascades will not remove any section of curtain from the reels. So whatever configuration you are awarded with, it will remain constant throughout the entirety of your bonus.
With regard to the free spin wheel you will be awarded either 6, 8, 10, 12, 14 or 16 free spins to begin he feature with.

The most significant thing about the wilds are that they have the ability to remove all of the curtain on the reel upon which they land, this is the only way that the curtain configuration can be altered during the bonus.

Spartacus Megaways Slot Review Final Thoughts
We were very eager to play and review Spartacus Megaways™, as after the release of Beetlejuice Megaways™ it was clear that SG Gaming had significantly upped their game. It’s safe to say that we were not disappointed and this is one of our favourite Megaways™ games to date in 2020.
For a while the delay on the cascading reels was a big drawback for us when it came to any Megaways™ slot from SG Gaming, but the last two releases seem to have proved that issue has finally been put to bed and the standard of product now on offer has improved ten fold.
We always like to see new things in Megaways™ and the curtain being added as well as the chance to remove parts of it, was something that we found interesting and thought worked very will. It did remind us a little of the Dynamic Ways mechanic in some aspects, but it’s very much its own concept within Megaways™.
This is certainly to date the stand out slot in the Megaways™ genre from SG Gaming. We really hope that they continue to develop more games to this same standard, as it will be a very exciting time for Megaways™ players if they do.
