Tropicool Slot Theme, Stakes, Pays & Symbols
Fruits have been used as the theme for endless online slots over the years, but Tropicool mixes things up by adding symbols such as a coconut and strawberry as well as the stacked Pelican and Flamingo. This makes for a more interesting visual presentation, but it’s the large number of features and paytable that really make this game stand out.
The huge main reel area of 6×6 symbols and corresponding 46,656 pay ways guarantees that you aren’t going to be seeing anything huge on the games paytable. The stacked pelican symbol returns just 1.2x your stake, for example, whilst the Pink Flamingo steps this down to just 0.9x your stake for six-of-a-kind. The strawberry returns more than both these creatures, surprisingly, at 2x your stake for a full row of six, and these too are stacked on the reels just like the animals. The coconut and apple complete the higher-paying symbols at 0.9x and 0.6x for six-of-a-kind. So far, not too exciting – but there is so much on the paytable I still had high hopes for Tropicool video slot.
The minimum bet per spin is set at €0.20 per spin, whereas the maximum reaches all the way up to €100.00 per spin. You select your stake by hitting the coin button in the bottom-left of the screen, after which it will take you to a second page with large buttons for choosing your bet size.
Base Game & Modifiers
The base game of Tropicool takes place on a 6×6 playfield, but you will immediately notice there is an additional row of symbols located across the top of the screen. This works similarly to a Megaways game, with the symbols in this row dropping down as winning combinations are removed from the reels, but unlike most Megaways games the top row only shows special feature symbols in Tropicool. Wins are awarded for any set of three or more matching symbols on adjacent reels from left to right, and the huge number of pay ways (46,656) ensures you will at least see small wins often.
Feature Symbols Row
The special row at the top of the screen can contain many symbols that do not appear on the rest of the reel set. These include a locked wild, which will remain in place for 3 consecutive wins, a multiplier wild which will multiply any combinations which contain it by 2x – 5x, and a row swap symbol that will replace all the symbols on the row except for wilds and bonus symbols. There are additional feature symbols present during the bonus game.
Tropicool Slot Free Spins Feature
You can access the free spin bonus round by hitting just three scatter symbols, which is unusual for a game with a grid as big as this. Three scatters will award 10 free “drops”, whilst four returns 15 drops, five returns 20, and all six scatters award the maximum of 25 free drops.
During the free spins, most features work the same way as during the base game although the feature row has an additional two extra free spins symbol, and, most fascinatingly of all, a progressive multiplier symbol which boosts the win multiplier of the bonus game.
The paytable advertises a maximum win of €1,000,000 when betting at €1 per spin from this progressive multiplier, and it will be amazing to see if anybody hits a win like this over the coming months.
X-iter Bonus Buy Feature
It’s a real shame that this part of the game is locked away behind a feature buy wall, so to speak, because players from many parts of the world will not be able to take advantage of these options. You can choose from the following five options:
- 5x Stake – Guaranteed Win – Purchase a game round with a guaranteed win. It could be a small win, or it could be a huge one – not bad for just 5x your bet!
- 25x Stake – Locked Wilds – Boost your guaranteed winning spin by adding three locked wild symbols to the reels before the combination is locked in. This has the potential to boost your win enormously but can also fail to return your 25x on many occasions.
- 100x Stake – Bonus – This is a regular bonus buy, starting the free spins feature with at least ten free spins.

I had a lot of fun testing ELK’s Tropicool online slot, although the music did start to grate on me after a while – it seems strange that one of the instruments is slightly off-key. As somebody with a musician background, this really stood out to me, but it may not bother other players anywhere near as much. Regardless, the music can easily be switched off whilst the big wins are always there – and that is all you need from an online slot!
